Heavy Eater Consumes 3+ Feet Of Sandwich, Angry Party Host Asks Him To Get Help

Parties are a great way to meet new people, reconnect with friends, and also to enjoy oneself. That doesn’t mean that it’s okay for folks to just let themselves go and behave wildly; they still have to respect their host and be mindful of not going overboard.

Unfortunately, one guest didn’t follow this too well and ended up finishing more than half of the specially-bought party sub at his friend’s party, without asking them first. Later that evening, the man got put on blast in front of everyone present for being a glutton.

More info: Reddit

Most overeaters don’t realize how much of a problem their behavior is until it begins affecting the folks around them

The poster shared that since he is a bigger guy who enjoys food more than most people, he became known as the “harmless, funny token fat guy” of his friend group

Unfortunately, when the man was invited to a friend’s party, he ate over 3 feet of a sub they had bought, since he was hungry and nobody seemed to be eating it

Even though the man had waited 2.5 hours before finishing the sub, the host’s girlfriend blew up at him for being selfish and bad at sharing

The poster didn’t just get called out by his friends, but also his sisters, who told him that he needed to get his overeating under control

The poster understood that he had overeaten, but he didn’t think it was such a big issue since he had offered to order more food for the party

As the poster had mentioned, he knew that he was quite a big man and found it hard to deal with his excessive love for food. Even though he was aware that his compulsion to eat so much could affect his health, he didn’t think it was that much of a problem since it was only hurting him and not causing anyone else any issues.

Although bingeing on food might not seem like a bad thing at first, experts state that it can slowly snowball into a disordered eating habit that can cause a lot of health issues later on. It also seems like most folks who engage in this kind of behavior don’t realize that there is anything wrong with their actions.

It’s clear that the poster also didn’t think his overeating was an issue, because when he saw that there were 3 feet of a sub left at his friend’s party, he decided to eat it all himself. Although the OP did wait for a while to see if anyone else wanted to have a piece of the sandwich, he finally ended up devouring it after two hours.

In most cases, it’s quite respectful for people to eat whatever food their host serves them, but etiquette experts state that it’s also important not to overdo it. That means that an individual shouldn’t simply binge or pig out at their host’s expense, as that could be considered bad manners.

The man probably thought that he was in the clear and that nobody would mind him eating the sub, but he soon got a reality check when his friend’s girlfriend confronted him. She called him out for being selfish and not sharing the sandwich with anyone else, which he tried his best to deny.

The OP also felt that he was justified in devouring the sub because he had brought chicken wings for people to have. Unfortunately, the more he tried to make up for his mistake, the more furious the host became, which led to him feeling embarrassed in front of everyone at the party.

Although this might seem like a harmless situation, medical professionals state that people need to start paying attention if their binge eating is affecting their everyday life. That’s when they need to reach out for professional support so that they can get this behavior under control and recover from constantly centering their life around food.

This is also what the poster’s sisters told him the day after the party, because they were friends with the host’s girlfriend. Even though multiple people had confronted him about his actions, the man still felt that it wasn’t an issue, but he later decided to ask the Internet for a reality check.

What do you think about the OP’s actions, and do you believe he was in the wrong? Do share your thoughts down below.

Folks were shocked by the man’s gluttony and told him to apologize for his actions immediately

Why he didn't just ask if anyone still wanted to eat and if it's ok to take the rest?

"An hour later, I was starving" - No. He was hungry, and to say otherwise minimises the experience of people who actually *are* starving. Next time, he should take his own food if he can't control himself for a few hours. 5 footlongs in an afternoon isn't a flex, and he needs help. Hope it all works out.

Sure, it's ridiculous in general and particularly on OP's part to claim you're starving when you have access to food. But it's also ridiculous to expect people to not use a figure of speech unless they take every person in existence into consideration before using it. Especially in the context of your own socio-economic status and the people you are speaking to. Obviously you don't want to claim you're starving simply because you haven't eaten more, around someone who is actually starving. But by that logic, I can't complain about my work wages because there are people who make less than me?

OP wasn't going to die of starvation if he didn't eat the ENTIRE rest of the sandwich. How disgusting. He didn't even give anyone the chance to have leftovers or take some home - he decided unilaterally that because no one had touched the sandwich in an arbitrary amount of time, he was "allowed" to cram the entire thing down his gullet. It's actually fairly wasteful - an amount of food that could have been several meals for several other people instead got scarfed down by one greedy a-hole who absolutely did NOT "need" to eat that much food. I have a lot of morbidly obese people in my family, and none of them are even this greedy. They share and restrain themselves at an individual meal, because to them, food is love and you share when you're in a group. Pretty sure we learn that in kindergarten :p

I don't think it's so much about eating it all, but not asking the others first. I mean, it's common courtesy when sharing food to make sure, not just assume, that everybody has had enough before you finish anything. Why didn't he just ask them?

This sounds more of an a*******n problem than anything else. To say you can down 5 footlongs in an afternoon easy is a problem. I would go to the doctor and get a physical because this is starting to sound like 600lb life unhealthy.

This person sounds like they have binge eating disorder. If that's what it is it goes way deeper than him being greedy, it's an actual illness that requires treatment. I hope he gets help.

I don’t understand if OP knows he eats that much (he said he could devour 5 foot long subs in an afternoon easily) he didn’t bring extra food just for himself, plus have a large meal before arriving so he wasn’t so hungry.

The guy knows he messed up, but to yell "pig" at him? Also, he apologised and offered to buy more food, is the artisanal sandwich that important? I could say Everyone S***s Here, but their response is far worse than his transgression (that he doesn't deny and tried to make up for it). The OP needs to address his overeating but needs new friends as well.

Why didn't OP just ask? As people have stated, just because food hasn't been taken immediately and completely doesn't mean people don't want it or aren't just waiting until later on. If OP was too embarrassed to ask, then eat beforehand. Or don't eat. Or order more food on your own for everyone. Unless there were like a hundred wings eaten by like 6 people, bringing wings doesn't remotely equate to 4 feet of a sub. However, I do think it's a complete overreaction on the girlfriend's part. She obvioulsy can be annoyed and, sure, OP ordering pizza to replace it doesn't actually replace what seems to be a specialty sub for the party. But, ultimately, it's not like OP ate all of the caviar or something.

Dude. If you are the sort of person who eats everything available, you need to actively rein yourself in in group settings. Eyeball the table. Work out roughly what "your share" of the food is. In this case sandwich divided by number of guests. That's how much it's okay for you to eat. You don't say how many people were there but I'm guessing enough that your share might have been 1/8 or 1/10 of the 6 foot sandwhich, maybe less. No way was it okay for you to eat more than half. After an hour or two, it's probrably okay to say "Does anyone else want some sandwhich, before I take another piece?" Also, be mindful that other people are paying for this food, and organising events, and it's not cheap. Don't expect other people to cover the expense of you eating several times as much as everyone else.

You do not eat a lot more than other people because you are big and fat and need the extra food to sustain you. You are big and fat because you have always eaten in excess, and that is gluttony (one of the seven deadly sins, by the way). This is not any more healthy for you physically than it is socially. please consult a doctor, and a dietitian who will help you plan out a way of eating that is heltful and includes foods you enjoy.

Three feet of sandwich would last me at least a week. I can’t believe someone could eat all that, after already eating. If your appetite is this far from normal, it would be best to fuel up before going out. Eating twice as much as the next person is one thing, but this is really egregious.
