There are so many dog breeds, it's incredibly easy to mistake one pooch for another. Luckily, St. Louis-based artist Grace Gogarty (a.k.a. Little Tunny) has created a comprehensive comic series that will help you identify most of the dog types.
"I've been drawing comics since I was a kid," Grace told Bored Panda. "I absolutely love animals, so that's usually my focus! I worked as a supervisor at a doggy daycare for years and got to meet lots of dogs. The cartoon dogs featured in this guide are the breeds I met the most of."
The artist has divided the series into three parts - big, medium, and small dog breeds, so no k9s are left behind. Great Danes? Check. Border Collies, Yorkshire Terriers? Yep. Pugs, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds? Yup. "Sadly, I haven't met every dog in the word yet so that I couldn't write about them all," Grace said. "Although I stereotype them, all dogs are wonderful individuals, so I couldn't possibly pick a favorite breed!"
Among the animals Gogarty owns, there's one pooch as well. "His Name is Huey, and he is an enigma. We have no idea what kind of breeds he's comprised of!" Scroll down to meet the dog memes, and remember - even if some traits sound better than others, every dog deserves a to be a pet. Even if it pees all over your new rug.

I always feel sorry for huskies who are adopted by lazy people. They should get a lazy dog or a goldfish.
Labs are great! They are smart, and loyal,....if you can keep them at home. They're Big-Time roamers. Unfortunately, they don't do all that well in the house. My black Lab, 'Captain Black' had a lethal tail, which was always sweeping back and forth. Unfortunately, he could clear a coffee table in a matter of just a few seconds. The Captain was the main reason why I happily switched from red wine to white wine. Oh, and the Captain sure could fart up a storm too. :D
2 Dobermans used to bark furiously at me every morning as I walked to school bus. One morning I spoke to them. Then on, our routine was they would wait for me eagerly every morning, and I would stop and talk to them. They were happy to see me.
Nonono german Shepards are just floofy boofs, and squishy boopers
EXACTLY!!!! Pits are given such a bad rap, but they were originally bred as "nanny dogs" to watch children. Mine is the best thing with children that I could possibly imagine! Max is a big baby and loves on and tolerates the kids till the end of the age!
Load More Replies...My neighbor has one. I think he got it for protection, but it will not even protect his house from birds or kittens.
we have pitties... best dogs...great Nanny Dogs, IoveabIe, goofy, Iove waIks, wiII do anything to be with their peopIe, sweet, gentIe, Iove to Iay in the sun and sIeep...
This is my favourite breed, unfortunately, I live in England, and yes I have spelt favourite right, the English way !!
Best dog in the world. My grand-dad had American pit bulls all his life because they were so smart, loyal and gentle with children (6 noisy rambunctious hooligans). Breed with an undeserved bad rap.
I've never met a neurotic mess pitty. They've either been ultra friendly or ultra happy.
Every pet Pitbull I have known was a Love Bug Supreme. Mine was the sweetest girlfriend on the planet
These dogs get such a bad rap. It really does come down to their training/breeding/environment. I was terrified when I learned my granddaughters were living in a home with Pit Bulls (yes plural). The Mama dog was called Chloe & her son was Maui. These dogs were some of the sweetest, kindest, most big love nicest, animals I have ever known. Beautiful creatures.
Don’t mean to be adverse here, but why not go with a breed (there are so many) that weren’t bred to be aggressive & Never Let Go? Go to www.somedogsbite.org and have a look at the stats. It’s not all just bad owners
Load More Replies...Yea not really accurate here. The neurotic ones are the ones that have been previously abused and I found one like that and had her fixed and turned into the sweetest angel baby in 6 months. Pitbulls are the most misunderstood breed on the planet. And if you've never had one please don't speak on it.
Do you know what the “pit” part means? They were bred to fight in a pit, to the finish. I’m a huge fan of adopting, but the future owners shouof absolutely consider the DNA.
Load More Replies...Our rescued pit-mix is the sweetest angel on earth. But if anyone threatens her humans, better watch out. Her bark says: "I WILL rip out your throat, so don't even think about it..."
My oldest Grandpup never met a rabbit she didn't want to eat, unless they had fireworks.
My pit, Wonder, is the sweetest thing. Despite being starved and abused early on, he is as gentle and loving as can be. Pits get a bad rap because of bad people who take advantage of their loyalty and desire to obey their person.
80-90 lb lapdogs!! Pure love and loyalty goofiness, and terrifying tails when they're wagging. People don't tend to comprehend that they're able to be made into fighting dogs precisely *because* they're such people pleasers. What a shame that so many morally corrupt individuals use that quality to exploit them
Because I'm so FN SICK and tired of defending them because "certain" people have their heads in the sand that dogs are individuals and all dogs can attack, here are just a few examples of other dogs going berserk, okay? Now sthu. Please. https://www.allkpop.com/buzz/2017/09/husky-cracks-a-mini-poodles-head-and-violently-bites-it-to-death-at-a-dog-cafe 30+ breeds of dogs and mixes are incorrectly identified as “pit bulls”* in dog bite incidents, attributing the pit bull with an unfair and overstated number of incidents (*pit bull is not technically a dog breed; breeds that are commonly referred to as pit bulls in the U.S. are American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and American Bully)- Canine Journal.com http://www.cleveland19.com/story/36764706/neighborhood-reacts-to-child-killed-by-german-shepherd http://archive.naplesnews.com/news/local/dog-that-bit-killed-2-year-old-cape-coral-boy-is-euthanized-ep-396194312-343508852
We had a Staffordshire bull terrier from before I was born and although he was show-looking (barrelled chest, huge head, basically what people think are pitbulls now) he was the gentlest giant I've ever known and he lived to protect me and my sister!
Load More Replies...My bella definitely had her neurotic moments, but she was always my sngel baby!
Only a people that are silly enough to elect Trump to be President could really love these misfits... [I've barricaded myself in so no use throwing stones - I'm not coming out until you've gone away]
I had three. They ran loose on a small farm. One got run over - stupid me. The other two were characters. One chased dirt bikes. The other dog was always a bit nutty (as above). Great and wonderful dogs.
My Roxanne is the gentle angel baby, except when she meets a dog bigger than her. Every dog had better bow down to the queen or she will make them sorry.
gentle angle baby... except for when it comes to protecting their loved ones!!
My granddog is a pittie, a most lovable baby who likes everyone that will pet her. Loves to sit in laps and get belly rubs.
Sadly, Dobermans have a very bad image problem. For some reason, people assume they're dangerous....in my opinion, they mostly lean towards the gentle angel side.
They love babies and little kids .They are the big strong babies hahah
Mine was definitely a gentle angel baby. My 2 year old little sister was tougher than he was. Miss you Barney <3
I have a neurotic pit. Show him a light (doesn't have to be a fancy "laser light" - just a camera flash will do - and he goes insane chasing it all over, trembling, waiting for you to do it again. If you DON'T do it, he'll pick up the light source and place it in your lap for you. Also, he licks - EVERYTHING - to the point of having to constantly watch him to make sure he isn't licking holes in his own skin. He also licks me, the wall, the bed, whatever is near him. He won't go outside with anyone but my husband or I. I've had everyone I know try to take him for a walk, just for my personal amusement. He gets to the door and stops, all 77#, dead weight. I can leave the door open and he will lay down, look pathetic, right in front of it and just tremble. But he doesn't leave the house at all without me to protect him. And when we're home together, he sits under my lap. Yep, he burrows his cold nose UNDER my thigh. He has issues, but he's an AWESOME dog :)
Load More Replies...was always scared of the pitts until the rescue i volunteered for sent me one to foster...at first I was horrified then my daughter said, "mom...its a dog, train her like you'd train any other dog, give her a chance, she has no where to go." so I did...and she stole my heart! So smart, so eager, so willing! One of the greatest dogs I ever fostered.
My grandson has one. dog is total sweet heart or scaredy-cat when it is thundering outside.
Yep ours too, a sweet, gentle neurotic mess.
Load More Replies...Viscious maulers and killers not worth the risk of getting one. Caveat emptor.
Viscious maulers/killers of your family friends pets and livestock not worth considering as pets.
But you have realize it's not just pit bulls that attack people little dog will attack people too for no reason as a matter if fact any dog of any breed can lash out just like humans it's just that bigger dogs get reported then make the news and then everyone reports giving that dog breed a bad name
Load More Replies...The Yorkshire terrier will also show its affection by nipping your ankles. They have teeth sharp enough to draw blood at every nip. (Don't tell me that I should break them of that habit, please -- they're not my dogs but a friend's.)
Still miss ours. He was awesome. Never really had to train him and he listened perfectly. Would just walk near you and come when called. Kinda obsessed about bananas and would do anything for 1. (Stole a whole bunch of the table once... Silly dog) He hated water so when it was bath time, I would just get in the shower with him and close the door. He loved getting brushed and groomed though.
Also Food machine, also needs unlimited times of trecking unless it's hot.
The border collie needs to have work to do or it will be neurotic. If you don't have time to spend training your dog, get something less intelligent. Sometimes a border collie will herd your kids to keep them from getting separated from you.
Tsundere lol that actually sums it up pretty well. Mine sometimes wants to be pet hard and long, but mostly she'll lay down somewhere close and love you from a distance - just don't touch her or she'll leave.
"BorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBorkBork"
You're thinking about akitas. Shibas (mostly) like petting. Akitas are like "no way, dude" as they slip just out of your reach. Not fan of strangers.
I've come to know boxers as social dogs that love to play and hug...
Endless barker, always cold, always hungry, lives in its own world.
In my seventy plus years, I have always been a dog lover/owner. Big dogs, medium dogs, and small ones. But when I got my first shih-tzu I've never looked back since. They're very energetic, love kids, easy to hold, and the most expensive part to them is the grooming every 6-7 weeks. They don't eat a lot, and best of all, they don't leave big piles that need cleaning up. Oh, and they look like hairy little children, in need of affection. I love my CharlieK. Period!
Very cute. But you missed Chow Chow, my favorite breed. Probably beacause I also like cats =]
I LOVE my four-legged children! They never demand anything but love and affection, which they return with interest. And they will love you, no matter who, or what, you are. 00-Yep-5a8...9e0ffb.gif
lucky for you! mine demands the food right out of your mouth. no, not that food, that ones gross. the one that's in your mouth right now. no no once you take it out of your mouth it's not the one in your mouth anymore!! can i eat it directly from your mouth? no? why not!!!

Yes! My dad has a Jack Russell Terrier and he's very similar to a rat terrier. He's extremely possessive of Dad to the point where we have to lock him downstairs when the grandkids come over, otherwise he attacks them!

I have a poodle mix and can confirm that this checks out. Would also add: refuses to be ignored.
Bichon: sprinting in circles around kitchen or napping. no in between.
I have a Boxer and this was pretty accurate. They did forget the snoring, farting and slobbery kisses! 😁
NO miniature pincher??? They are the kings of the toy breed and they show it! They do all the barking, the whining, and prancing in the kingdom! Plus they will either bit you or lick you to death!!
Loved the descriptions, but I learned more about each breed from the comments then the drawings. I loved reading everyone's stories about their dogs, sooooo funny! My family has had a few dogs over the years, different breeds, and some were on this list, and the descriptions fit. More so the descriptions from the comments, but some from the list too.
Furry Kids are the best kind, wish I could have some again but living up on the 4th floor makes it just a bit difficult*sigh*
Buried my last cat 2 yrs. ago and new landlord says no more animals in the building. :( I miss having the companionship even though she was a bit demanding. Actually, not so much demanding as just climbing into my lap and helping herself to whatever I was eating. lol.. I still remember getting up to get a glass of milk from the fridge and coming back to find she had snagged the entire T-bone off my plate and stalked off with it.
Chow-Chow: -Dude... Leave me alone... Let me sleep... -*leash is grabbed* Outside!? WE're gonna go outside!? YESSSSS! *runs around, waking up downstairs neighbors and ripping carpet apart* -A sound! It came from the door! Must push my head against it and huff! -Oh, you wanna rob us? Go right ahead... You want to leave now!? Heh, go ahead and try it, pal. -YOU LEFT ME HERE ALL ALONE! I HATE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I HATE YOU! I LOVE YOU!... I'm tired... -otherwise enchanted cocoa puff
Cocker spaniel. : - Will try to "track and hunt" everything, whether or not it's alive is irrelevant.
Too bad I don't see a Cocker Spaniel there... they've been my love, my companions, my friends.
No terriers? I have a rat terrier, he loves long walks, can find chocolate no matter where it is hidden, loves to play squeaky ball throw and chase but won't bring it back to me
My experience with a rottweiler is "looks like a tough guard dog but most people can out run them..." The one that we were taking care of with our two dogs (one a chow mix and the other a black lab/shepherd mix) could never keep up with the other two dogs nor our neighbor's dogs. He was always left in their dust.
I have a border collie husky mix, hes not like a husky or a border collie at all. Except the running part.
Do Shetland Sheepdog! - herding instinct but no sheep so probably herding shrubs and children - one evolutionary step away from speaking English - happy to be here
Dachsund:. Wind up barker toy. Will stare you down until beady eyes melt your heart for a taste of whatever you're eating. Lives to trip you. Underdog? No. UNDERFOOT. Pee outside? Goodness no. I might get my feet wet. But if yours get wet stepping in my puddle, that's cool. Where's Daddy and when's snuggle time? Clean up my pee and feed me, then you're going to snuggle me. Hit repeat and do it all again tomorrow.
I would like to know what would have been said about Australian Cattle Dogs
missed English Shepard, not that I'm surprised they never get any recondition.
I have an eight week old black Golden Shepherd (Golden Retriever/German Shepherd). Going through a tough time right now with the whole biting thing. Trying to use positive cues but right now my arms are completely cut up by her fangs.
In that context a pet is a pat as in a scratch behind the ears. Forever. Don't stop. Ever lol
Load More Replies...Is it really so common to find all these pure breed dogs in shelters in the US? Here in Brazil you'll pretty much only ever find mutts in shelters - breed dogs are too expensive, only occasionally you'll see someone donate one, regardless of age or conditions - but whenever I see these posts, people will always talk about having a bunch of breed rescue dogs.
Rafaella, approximately 25% of the dogs in shelters are pure breed dogs. Lots of folks adopt dogs not understanding how much time and commitment they require and those pups end up in shelters. I work in rescue and we have SO MANY pure breed dogs it's crazy! There are even rescues all over the country that are breed specific so they can offer the appropriate care for specific breeds - so Labradors, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Grayhounds, Bulldogs, and tons of others have whole rescue organizations dedicated to rescuing and finding homes for specific breeds. We have lots of mutts too, but there are pure breeds everywhere. Pretty odd, huh?

HAHAHAHAHAHA this has something true, but please #AdoptDontShop, if you´re searching for a special dog breed because of its character you can also find it at the shelters, but all the mutts´re also adorable, plus usually mutts get older than purebred dogs, especially the smaller ones!!!
Dobermann: That's not true ! Who wrote it? I bet that person has never had or saw a Dobermann in his/her life. They are gentle, but only to their family and their friends. Because trust me, you would not want to meet them with its owner in a dark... They were used during WWII by Germans,,, and do you know why? No? Then maybe you should take some history lessons on the Internet. But you can bet they weren't scared of anything. Because of their "role" in WWII people hated them later, they were scared of them, they knew you shouldn't mess with them. These dogs are not for fun, they are not your sleeping buddies. And believe me, if you know how to properly raise them and train them, you don't need a gun to protect yourself..... And one more thing: if you see a Dobermann who is scared of himself you know his owner doesn't have what it takes to raise him and you can bet he doesn't treat him well and he is hurting him. _FACT_ I know, I have them my whole life.
I took it that the tv lies about them being scary because they are even afraid of themselves like being afraid of your own shadow. I grew up with Dobies and I too defend their reputation. I never had an aggressive one and in my experience they are women’s dogs gravitating more to the females in the home. I have had five between childhood at home and then on my own and all of them were like that. They can be trained like many other breeds to be protectors making excellent guard dogs but as family pets they are wonderful . Society has chosen different breeds throughout time to demonize and that breed suffers for it. At one time it was the Doberman, another it was Rotties. As of late it’s been pitties.all of which I adore and have owned both Pitties and Dobies without incident. I had close friends with Rotties and never a problem. It’s all in who owns them, how they’re trained, and WHAT they are trained for. like German Shepherds can be viscious as part of K-9 but are great as family dogs

Then it was the correct decision not to get another doggie for those people. Caring for a dog (or any animal) appropriately, takes lots of time, money, and love. I cherish my pups and would be very unhappy without one, and I will continue to rescue as long as I'm able. But if a person does not enjoy and/or care for their pup(s) fully, they absolutely should not get another.
