Couple Thought It Was A Good Idea To Dye A Whole Waterfall For Their Gender Reveal Party
A Brazilian couple is facing criticism after painting the waters of a stunning natural waterfall electric blue to celebrate their gender reveal party.
The parents-to-be posted videos and images of the event on social media on Sunday but deleted everything once the footage caused a massive public outcry.
The waterfall is 18 meters (59 feet) high and is located six kilometers (3.7 miles) from the center of the Tangará da Serra municipality.
The locals said the site is a famous tourist destination, and, most importantly, the primary water source for a nearby settlement.

And here’s how people reacted to it
Some people gave parents the benefit of a doubt and hoped dye was safe
Local authorities said they will investigate the incident
The Secretary of State for the Environment of Mato Grosso (SEMA) released a statement, explaining that it would be investigating the couple to determine what products were used to dye the waterfall and if they caused any environmental damage. The statement, published by Brazilian news site G1, highlighted that six officials — two from SEMA and four from the municipality of Tangará da Serra — were on-site collecting the data.
Surprisingly, this isn’t a standalone case, as videos of other similar gender reveal parties can be seen on social media

The gender reveal party is a relatively new thing. The practice originated in the United States during the 2000s.
One of the earliest was recorded in 2008 by then-pregnant Jenna Karvunidis on her ChicagoNow blog High Gloss and Sauce when she announced the news via cake; she had previously had several miscarriages and wished to celebrate that her pregnancy had developed to the point that the sex of the fetus could be determined.
However, as it was becoming a trend, parents started trying to outdo each other — often for internet attention — and it quickly morphed into somewhat of an online challenge.
Back in 2020, one couple even caused a destructive wildfire by using a pyrotechnic device during their “celebration”

Share on FacebookHow incredibly ignorant and selfish do you have to be to do something so idiotic? If you’re that worried about your baby’s genitalia perhaps you should seek psychiatric help. Damn, Thanos should have snapped away the gender reveal and idiotic influencers,
It’s just…do they demand a refund later when the kid determines they are trans or non binary? Or do they just do another gender reveal?

She got the "stunning" pictures she wanted, but at what cost? My friend had a cute gender reveal: she gave her 6-year-old daughter an ornament, paint, and the doctor's envelope that said the new baby's sex. The girl, who strongly wanted a sister, went in her room to paint the ornament. When she was ready, they took a 10-second video of her coming out of the hallway with the blue ornament and a big smile. I think it helped her get excited even though the baby wasn't another girl, 'cause it's normal for little kids to have a strong preference like that. It got her involved. And what a cute keepsake.
The saddest part is that no one except the parents actually cares about the gender of the baby so this was all for nothing.
Have you met my mother? She would have been so mad if I didn't find out.

I blame the internet - now the village idiots can communicate.
Load More Replies...When my now ex-wife was pregnant with our daughter we decided that in this world there are few truly amazing surprises. We asked not to know what the sex of our unborn child was. During the pregnancy she was convinced our baby was going to be a boy, no particular reason, she just felt that. On her arrival it was the most wonderful surprise to be blessed with a healthy daughter and I advocate for everyone to go that way, let the best surprise be one that you share with your husband / wife / partner / significant other / your very closest family. Don’t have a reveal until it is revealed to you. It’s just amazing that way.
Pregnant with my first right now. We were told over the phone by my OB. When we finally decided to tell the world via FB, we said "We're pregnant with a baby girl!" That was it. We had a special moment with just him and I and we told our family as we saw them and then the rest got a FB post. I think gender reveals are so stupid but if you just have to have one, buy a damn cake.
OMG. All this just to let us know it’s a boy or girl. That info is so insignificant, or at least it should be.
Idiots! Let’s pollute the water for our gender reveal. I hate people like this
"Hey kid - Welcome to the world I personally and measurably made worse by damaging the water source for your hometown. Your mama and papa are the reason we have to truck in bottled water." Gender reveals need to stop. Environmental damage is the first most obvious reason. But how about the potential damage of pigeon holing your child into a gender before they're even born? "We burnt an entire national park for you, you are going to stay a boy!"
"The fire torched nearly 23,000 acres, destroying 20 buildings and taking the life of one firefighter" - Bet they wish they stuck with a simple cake now. So much loss and for what? *smh*
I don’t mind gender reveal parties… when they’re a simple cake or maybe confetti in a balloon. Not stupid s**t like this
I hope they see this - Bando de gente estupida, vao se foder! Ninguem esta interessado no seu piá. Volta pro mar, oferenda!
I understand how it's exciting to discover whether your child is male or female, but harming the environment and literally causing deaths (in the case of the wildfire) to celebrate the reveal of your baby's sex? Seriously?! That's insane!
Either I’m getting old or this is a fad on par with keeping innocent small dogs as a goddamned accessory in your handbag. I don’t UNDERSTAND this “gender reveal” bullshìt - especially considering that you can’t actually KNOW the gender before the kid is born and self aware. All you can know is physical sex, so even the term is wrong - admittedly I’m a bit of a stickler about language - but even if you called it “physical sex reveal party” it remains outlandishly strange to me. And, honestly, kind of stupid. Like, we all KNOW you’d kill your grandmother on camera to get Instagram likes, but that still doesn’t make it RIGHT.
Listen... if you wanna do a gender reveal.. get a colored cake and invite people to your home.
Self absorbed idiots. Leave nature alone. No one care about your spawn.
Why did this idiotic practice even start??? Tbh no-one apart from the parents gives an actual F anyway and it is most definitely NOT EVER something worth polluting the environment over! Christ, this poor planet is struggling as it is to cope with the myriad ways we're f*cking it up with currently. We don't need morons like this adding to it.
Jenna Karvudinis is credited with being the creator of the gender reveal. Her idea was incredibly simple and just entailed her cutting into a cake. Unfortunately, the Internet got a hold of it and went bat-s**t insane and turned something innocent into showing up for fame and clout. Jenna has said she is deeply disturbed by many of these gender reveal events and is sad to be considered the inventor of something that has become associated with narcissism. Here's an article on it: https://www.npr.org/2019/07/28/745990073/woman-who-popularized-gender-reveal-parties-says-her-views-on-gender-have-change

nobody cares about your tiny pink baby pool, your dirty pool isn't the main water source for a town thats currently going through a drought.
