That's awful and sorry to the girl who had Cystic fibrosis and her family. It's kinda like when media outlets decide to take a missing person case national/international because the person is considered attractive and it could boost their ratings. More often than not you'll hear the story about the younger, pretty girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, but you won't hear a thing about those who are considered less attractive or stories about people of color. We all heard about when Gabby Petito went missing, but what about Jelani Day, Rajah McQueen and Paige Coffey? They were reported missing around the same time as Gabby but their stories got very little attention, if any.

I don't like how tied to sport US schools seem to be. In Australia, unless you were at a private school, you would have 'inter-school' sports days (mostly round robins) but it was rarely a weekly thing and very few state schools have teachers willing to spend time after school coaching sports, so it's all within school hours. Some schools are really competitive and do well, but it didn't really earn them anything other than pennants or trophies. If you want to participate in a 'real' sports team it is all 'extra-curricular' and run from community sports clubs, which then run into under 18s, reserves etc. If you are really good and get onto a state team, you can get scholarships for uni, but it is very different to the US process. I think it makes for kids that are more well-rounded and a more positive school life. Then again, that's just from what I have personally observed in Australia and what I have read online about the US (and how it's portrayed on screen).
