The one you can see, you can blame. Works on many different levels. For instance: you can blame the smoker you see smoking, but not blame everything around smoking above and out of it like the governments who promoted smoking in the first place, the tabacco giants, etc. In this case you can only see the pregnant belly and not the s***m that was put into that belly...

I think this is not even about the money but they way MIL assumed her DIL is "rich" (not knowing that "rich" can be many things, like well to do but not millionaire, etc), but the way MIL played both DIL and son about it. Asking and giving money to family is one thing, being demanded and manipulated and playing of spouses against each other is another thing.

I think what hit most of us was the entitlement of MIL without any explanation why she suddenly wasn't able to pay her rent anymore. I'd love to hear more about why she suddenly couldnt pay her rent!

My mom and I did the same, however, certainly NOT when it is "demanded". And we checked if the one we gave the money to was indeed in need or spent their money on unhinged things. For all you know MIL could have spent her money on a tomboy lover or such.

I cannot comment on everyone in this post, but please look up Yasser Abu Shabab, a freedom fighter AGAINST Hamas. The situation in Gaza is so much more complex than any of the ProPals make of it. Innocent citizens are being torn between so many factions there. And until Hamas launched the October 7th atrocities, most Gazans were being medically treated, educated and socially benefited by Israel. Now, the ordinary citizens of Gaza have not to survive just the gruesome regime of Hamas, but also many militia's in Gaza, and the withdrawals of above mentioned aid by Israel and their attacks on Hamas. They are not just caught in Israel's fire on Hamas, but also in Hamas fire and that of the militias. How can we change that? For one: make sure Hamas is no more. Only then we can start a new peaceful coexistence, hopefully without new terrorist gangs.

Good for you! however, I bike everyday without a helmet, I stick to traffic rules, I have never, never had an accident with other traffic. Just once I had an accident when the roads suddenly froze over (black ice) and I broke my leg and arm. The ER was full of broken legs and arms (also from pedestrians). We don't wear body armor either :). It is very american to want to protect it all, but you must be realistic and pragmatic that biking, without electrical support, is just a way of normal going around in the Netherlands. Britain is an entirely different story.

But that doesn't mean that drivers are always in the wrong. I volunteer for people in those situations, just got a driver clear of supposedly hitting a cyclist on a roundabout. It does not work as you try to tell us here. Stop being a pusher.

Yes, agreed, however... if you take into account the number of biking dutchman (not the flying one :)), you will see that through history after WWII the number of injured/dead bikers on the number of bikers in total is not that bad. Probably less than airplane casualties. Yes, we agree that any preventable death is something to go for, on the other hand: in other biking countries, the casualties are much higher because the traffic is so chaotic. And see the history: the number of deaths went down when drivers became more responsible for their actions, and now the number is going up because of all the electrical bikes, and new regulations for those are being made just now.

Most accidents happen at home and in the most ordinary situations... for the people in the post above about the bike-helmet? Do you think these injuries could have prevented by wearing a helmet?

Overall, I wished that people in this situation would inform themselves better of everything that created this war. I am NOT pro-Israel, neither am I pro-Palestinian. I am pro-Peace and peaceful co-existence. However, Hamas is t*******m with an agenda to wipe out Israel. The colonists are just as bad by usurping palestinian territory. The victims on both sides are the normal citizens. Most of them are haunted into an "enemy-thinking" mode which shouldn't be. The Proppers (pro-palestinian demonstrators who are mostly just hooligans) don't work towards peace but just put oil on the fire. That is something I am really against.

I do care for the Palestinians killed, especially when they are killed by their own terrorists. You have only half the story. You left out that Israel paid for their social wellfare and medical needs. So, NO, I am definitely NOT a fan of colonists and Netanyahu. I said that I understand their "putative self defense" and that the only road to peace is that Hamas is gone. If Hamas would change their agenda to live in peaceful coexistence with Israel? I would applaud that. But how will you live with a neighbour who's only goal is to k**l you? I don't think you will be that tolerant to let them k**l you. You would do anything not to be killed.

I was taught, like OP, that other drivers don't know what they were doing, and it was the wisest lesson! When I did my driver's exam, I went through a shopping street with oncoming traffic. A few yards in front of me, a lady just swung here door open without looking and got out into the road. I would have hit her if I braked. So, I hit the gas, just got around her before the oncoming traffic would hit me. It was really scary!

When you are hit by a car going at least 30 km/h, a helmet won't do much to help. When you can't bike, you shouldn't be on a bike.

Wearing a helmet on bikes is mandatory for everything like sports or anything that goes faster than 25 km/h. But here in the Netherlands biking on a normal leg-powered bike is just like walking :).

This totally depends on where you live, and the cycling infrastructure that you use. In places where cars and bikes are kept seperate, the risk of being seriously hurt in an accident is tiny. You might leave some skin behind, or you might break a leg, but that's about it. The problem is having cars anywhere near bikes.
