This hole in the shower door is actually used for checking the temperature (without getting your whole body wet) of the shower before getting into it. I don't disagree that this is useful but I don't have this problem because I start my shower with hot and adjust with cold until I get the temperature I want. I don't wait for it to get hot, that seems inefficient.
