17 Relatable And Adorable Comics About Day-To-Day Life With A Cat By This Artist
Interview With ArtistMikiko is a German-Japanese artist who's currently living in London. Drawing is Mikiko's passion, and besides creating comics, she makes awesome illustrations as well. Recently, Mikiko seems to have pivoted entirely to the illustration side, while her comics remained relatively on hold. But that won't stop us from sharing them either way.
Judging by the comics, Mikiko's daily life revolves around two things: drawing and her adorable cat Emi. There are also some tangents like her crushes, daydreaming, interacting with people and whatnot. But those two are the center point of each and every comic.
You might be pleasantly surprised to learn that Mikiko is no stranger to Bored Panda, and we have already made two posts about her a long, long time ago, which you may find here and here.

The mundane and down-to-earth topics make one forget that Mikiko has an interesting life in and of itself. First, as you might have subsumed, illustration and art is her life, and that automatically makes it awesome. Second, she was "born in Tokyo and grew up in Hong Kong, Germany, Japan and Belgium." And now she lives in London, UK. A globetrotter right from the crib!
I was expecting to find the cat grooming itself with the cactus, tbh.
My cat loved to carefully pull out needle clusters from my cacti and drop them on the floor.
She also shared how she's been doing recently, and it seems that she's enjoying the world and been busy: "I'm very well, thank you! I've been working on many projects and going to conventions again for the first time in a long while. It's wild and I forgot how much I loved it. It's like reconnecting with the world again!"
My cat occasionally steals my hubby's pants by waiting for his guard (and pants) to be down while he poops.
You know you got a good guy when he'd rather walk through the house in his boxers than disturb the cat. ^_~
Load More Replies...Kids or animals, there’s no such thing as privacy—-even in the throne room.
When you see the paws come snaking through the floor gap, that's when you know you'll never pee alone ever again.
My cat somehow sits on my back while I'm on the toilet. I don't know how.
One of our foster cats did that! He would bust in and stand on my back!
Load More Replies...It's kinda cute though. They want to protect you in your most vulnerable moment! That's also why dogs stare at you when they poop. They want you to protect them until they finish!
Why do they have to do this?? Why can't we just go to the bathroom in peace?? 😹😹
My cats do the same thing. One of my boys will even turn the doorknob to get in my bedroom.
Mikiko's relationship with manga and art is also noteworthy to mention. She said that for her, "manga (Japanese comics) is a way for me to connect to home," which is Japan. She made her decision to live the life of an artist when she was 12: "I was always into cartoon drawings, but at age 12 I read my first Shonen Jump magazine (action adventure!) and decided, that's what I wanted to do as a job."
Adult? I'm 14, this is basically how I spend my summers
Load More Replies...If your body sucks at regulating temperature it's cause your cardio is in terrible shape.
It could also be due to various medications and other unrelated health issues. This speaking in absolutes like you know everyone bothers me.
Load More Replies...I still do that stuff on top for the summer with my kids. Also I have some heat tolerance.
The comic's been in a hiatus as of late, but not because Mikiko is not interested in them anymore, but because she's working hard on new stuff!
"I put a few things on hold as I work on some upcoming comics that I'm very excited about! I have a fantasy series in the works that I'm pretty excited about. It's not certain when I will release it, but it will be a series I've been planning for many years. I'm a big fan of fantasy and it was long overdue.
Right now I'm taking a break from them as my mental health suffered a bit during Covid especially, but I hope I can pick up the series again some time. My dream would be to include lots of readers' stories, since we're all very much alike and have fun stories to tell!"
Squeeze the bottom of the burger towards your mouth while you take a bite. Since its pushed up, it can’t slide out of the bottom. I follow that a lot.
Load More Replies...Pfft, this cartoon has obviously been exaggerated for entertainment purposes. It's simply not *possible* to eat a good burger so neatly!
My husband and me 🤣🤣🤣 I remember our first date, I dropped the hot dog sausage full of mayo and ketchup in my lap... 🙈
This is a problem people have? I might get some condiments on my plate, occasionally, but..how do you get anything on your face?
only gods can eat a burger without accidentally letting some of those vegetables fall down
Now, down to the worldly details of this genuinely interesting comic artist. For one, as one would guess, most of it is made out of the typical grind of an illustrator. Emi, a cat which makes her frequent appearance in comics, is Mikiko's "favorite thing in the world". Oh, and she loves her husband, too. Besides these two, the things that inspire Mikiko the most are "people, music, and life with its funny problems in general. Other artists too of course! People are so creative and funny, it's inspiring.
You forgot about the part where you go outside momentarily and you die of heat exhaustion
And taking a cool shower, but needing to take another because the exertion of drying yourself off made you all sweaty again. Solution? Air conditioning.
Load More Replies...this is exactly what I feel like, but in winter. I can tolerate heat, but cold temperatures destroy me
That's why I moved from northeast Ohio to southern Arizona, but now both extremes destroy me in their own ways lol
Load More Replies...I been there a couple of times. You chug a soda in a few minutes of else that thing is boiling.
Load More Replies...You would not do well where I live. Tucson, AZ. We rarely have days under 75 and it's often over 100. I'm already sick of summer this year. 102° outside as I type this while laying in the cool AC 😅
Load More Replies...Ugh, we're starting to get to this time of year where I'm at, and it suuuuucks. You can't recover after sunset, because it doesn't go below 100°F until midnight or so. Thank heavens for air conditioning!!
Mikiko also told about her humble beginnings as an illustrator and of the comic. When asked if the life of an illustrator is difficult, she said "it is, especially in the early years. I consider myself lucky that I have a supportive fanbase, a good reputation and lots of experience.
Also, it helps having hundreds of pieces of art visible to the public that help me connect with interesting projects and people."
"Originally the mini-comics started out as little jokes and gifts I shared with friends and family. The first one I posted in 2010, and it unexpectedly went viral. People seemed to connect with my mundane daily experiences and it was always very cool to see the love the comics received."
Aww, Emi does yoga WITH her! Wish my cats would learn that trick, instead of headbutting me out of every pose.
She looks like she’s a normal weight for her height. If exercising allows her to have doughnuts without gaining weight, shut up boyfriend/husband and let her keep doing it. Because it’s working.
If you know Bored Panda, you know we're never short on comics. Here are some of the most recent ones that we posted. If you're up for some classical type of comic as if they're fresh off of the newspaper, Will Santino shall provide exactly that. All of these comics are sweet and all, but perhaps they're too sweet for your dark tastes? Well, we have something for you, too. Oh, and one last random suggestion: swords. You heard the word, swords.
emiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
My mother had a cat that would always pee in her almost-packed suitcase.
Nah, her mood is going to be ruined the moment she steps foot in LA lol.
Load More Replies...According to Mikiko, the most important thing in a comic is "The story and flow is the thing I find most important and often neglected. If the timing isn't right, the best jokes won't get a laugh! It's invisible to most readers, but great comics have a great rhythm in their storytelling."
Sorry kitty. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back. :)
One of my rats took it into his head that he wanted my tea, and for such a smart animal he really didn't seem to catch on. *sticks nose in tea* "Ow" *stick nose in tea* "Ow. *sticks nose in tea* Ow. *just one more time?* "Ow!"
Our new kitten likes to sip my tea, even though it's hot. He's a strange one...
I feel this so much but the culprit in my house isn't a cat... but a ferret instead.
Yeah, my dog did this with her tongue as a puppy. She was unhurt but the 2-foot vertical jump was hilarious.
Here's a special message from Mikiko to you, our dear readers:
"Big thanks to Bored Panda for having me back, it's always a pleasure! Also a huge THANK YOU, dear readers, for always sharing, laughing and loving my work! It means the world to me and I hope we can see each other again soon, here or at events, in a bookstore or on the road."
what are you talking about??? all cats are cute!!!!
Load More Replies...NO! Do NOT let your cat get used to crawling into the warm dryer. They may do it one time without you knowing it, and you’ll turn the dryer on to finish the rest of the load, and break your cat’s neck! I learned this way back in the seventies, so why don’t people understand this now?
If they do, close the door and hit the dryer multiple times with your flat hand. Be really noisy so the cat panics and it should stay awsay from the dryer afterwards. It's not the nicest way of teaching your cat, but it should save them from a gruesome death.
Load More Replies...Always check your dryer if you have a cat that does this. My mom's cat died from sneaking into a dryer when her back was turned just before she turned it on. It was pretty much top 5 awful moments of our lives. 10 years ago and she never quite got over it. Probably never will.
Kickstarter backer comic? Is this... supposed to be here? Usually this sort of thing you'd have access to by backing whatever project
*shrug* Close dryer door, aaaand start dryer... (I'm kidding! Just kidding!)
My buddy's cat only did this once, and my buddy now checks the dryer before hitting start.
My cat just gets in my laundry basket as soon as I bring it into the room 😸
My mums kitten did this once in the tumble dryer and my mum didn't notice. Thankfully she heard meowing from the turned on machine before she got hurt. Now we only have a dog and we still have to check out of paranoia
Adorable!! I can tell see myself in the one with the sports bra with the fans pointing at me.
And this is why nice shy people are going extinct. :( They're kinda like panda bears...
Well then, be the first to look up from your damn phone and say hi!
I see I gotta be the anon to say it...we don't wanna be chewed out for saying "hi" and yes, it happens
Ha. In oregon(Where I live) it snow in april. WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS!
Load More Replies...Quebec: Like Europe, only closer.* And colder. (*Yes, I'm writing from the American perspective.)
My hubby's mum over in Alberta got like 6 inches of snow in May. O.o
This reminds me of my first time in snow which was last year which also was my first time in a blizzard. Thank God I listened to my neighbors advice on snow apparel and how to manage those temperatures or else I would've gotten hypothermia.
Yea... unless you're fluent in French I dunno if Quebec is the best place or even an option anymore. Try Any Where else in Canada 🙄
she looks like she's desperately holding in a s**t while waiting for the person in the bathroom to be done
i did not need to read this today
Load More Replies...The first two poses seem alright but dang the last two especially the last one. I'm pretty strong but I can't hold up my own weight like that.
I know right, ever since i was a little kid I've tried to pull that off that last one
Load More Replies...This issue is as old as time itself. I bet when we crawled out of the slime billions of years ago, we may have seen another blob that looked sexy to us, but we’re too shy to crawl over and say hi. Sometimes, though, you have to take a deep breath and just go for it. All they can do is say no. Then you just say OK and be done with it. Because they’re not the only blob in the slime.
That is the most original way of saying "there are plenty of fish in the sea" I have ever heard. Love it 😀
Load More Replies...How do you walk past a dog and not say hi to them ....then to the owner out of obligation to acknowledge the dog's human.
I love it when I'm in a group with multiple women. Game-wise, everything tends to be more fun and interesting.
Seriously, I don't understand the gatekeepers. Girls make DnD a blast to play. Artists especially.
Load More Replies...My D&D group is mostly women. We go off on some bizarre tangents sometimes
Very well done. I love drawing cartoons and have published two books so far, working on book number three.
I'm a woman attracted to women, and I draw men that attract other women. I also draw women like that. Gender of drawing isn't limited
Load More Replies...I would love to have her at a table at Origins at least. Horror by gaslight. Fellowship of the White Star is the open campaign.
These are really entertaining! Keep up k the good work... please.
