Today we’d like to introduce you to a new comic artist on our website. We’d like for you to meet “Mostly ADHD,” a webcomic artist who wanted to show others what life was like for them as someone who was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). They never thought their sketches would lead to a series of webcomics that have amassed an amazing number of over 19k Instagram followers with just 24 posts in total!

In their sincere comics, the artist translates the reality of those who live with the disorder. In addition to helping other people to realize that they're not alone in this, the said comics are also a great way for the artist to portray what they are feeling day by day.

Bored Panda reached out to the artist to find out a little bit more about them and their comics.

"I was struggling a lot in university and after seeing a psychologist, I realized at age 26 I had ADHD and it all suddenly made sense. After graduating, I was dealing with burnout, depression, and anxiety and kind of fell into a dark hole. I suddenly had a lot of free time and I was home a lot, so I started drawing funny comics as a way to cope with my situation and to hopefully make others in similar situations feel less alone.

So in a weird way I'm thankful for being in this situation, because that's where my inspiration for my comics came from. I don't think I would have ever become a comic artist otherwise."

We also asked if perhaps creating comics regarding ADHD might've helped the artist to overcome some of the things in life.

"It helps to know a lot of people feel the same way as I do. It makes me feel less alone and more accepting of myself. But it doesn't solve my problem, I'm still having to battle the negative effects of ADHD every day."

We were also curious to know about how people reacted to the artist's works.

"Most of the response was overwhelmingly positive! I got to almost 20k followers in less than 2 months, which is insane and I never expected that. It shows how many people can relate to my comics and how big the need is to talk about mental health topics. I did receive some nasty comments from trolls who don't believe in ADHD (so don't be surprised if you get some of those on your comment sections). But to me, that just proves how big the taboo around this topic (and mental health in general) still is. It won't stop me from continuing, it actually fuels me to make more comics to further destigmatize talking about mental health."

Me! I cannot sleep in complete silence at all. I need a fan going (wether I'm hot or not) and my tv on. I'll set a sleep timer on my tv to go off in 2 hours cuz by then I'll be knocked out enough to not notice lol.

Yes! I can't sleep in silent rooms. I usually fall asleep listening to audiobooks, and they're usually about murder too.

If my family goes to sleep b4 me, and I am cut off from their wholesome rowdyness, I will NOT be able to sleep at all. But I cannot hear anything scary, I will die from that in my dreams, I will see my shadow from my nightlight (yes I'm a teen with a nightlight don't judge) and think it's a killer.

Why is this SO true? I had audiobooks of Goosebumps books when I was like 5 or 6, otherwise I couldn't sleep. I know, these things aren't actually scary, but they are for a kindergartner.

When I studied at the uni I found that I need human sounds/voices around me to actually study. No silent libraries or study halls for me. I sat in the cafeteria and it was just the best thing evaaaaar!

is it weird that silent libraries worked well in college, but noisy cafes now lend themselves to greater productivity?

I've had a fan since I was little, started out by default with no A/C back in the day, then I thought it was just habit. Later I found I was ADD, so of course that helped, but now it's finding YouTube videos along with it. I unfortunately find myself waking back up going "nope" not working. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Ugh... I do enjoy rain & distant train horns, at least for now. It's a never ending battle! 🙄

WHOA! You got me with this one! I literally can't sleep unless I'm watching tv, listening to something or reading and fall asleep. The random thoughts NEVER stop and lying alone at night is the worst. I could never take naps as a child for the same reason. I also love true crime and at night. During the day it's kind of negative to me but at night I love it and fall asleep to it. At least I'm not the only one.

I prefer sleeping with music or asmr, but my parents don't want me sleeping with my phone. It's fine, I get to distracted by my thoughts to worry about the silence.

I listen to ASMR (I usually look up “asmr crunchy chicken” on YT) all I need is about 10mins and I’m already asleep. Sounds weird but I found out by accident. There is this ASMR app that has different sounds that helps you sleep.

Roaring basses to sleep. Both my son and daughter and my husband by the way need noisy things to go to sleep. As babies you just had to start a chainsaw or some other loud machine and off they went to sleep.

People also seem to be very supportive of the artist's work, as they told us, "My inbox is overflowing with messages from people saying they love my comics and how they've helped them feel less alone or come to terms with their diagnosis. But also from partners of people with ADHD that these comics help understand them more. It really warms my heart and makes me happy knowing I'm doing something good for people, this is exactly why I'm doing this!"

Lastly, we asked the author of the said comics to tell us a little bit more about themselves.

"I'm a 28-year-old Dutch woman, I have a degree in sociology but I have no ambitions in this field. My dream is to continue making comics and own a small business selling merch with my own designs. But this only has become my dream since starting this account. Before this I had no idea what I wanted in life, like I said I was in a dark hole and felt stuck. But now I finally have a strong sense of purpose to continue in the creative field and make illustrations about mental health."
