“Our Larger Bodies Are Clearly Lacking Representation In Media”: Plus-Size Models Pose As Disney Princesses (16 Pics)

Disney princesses have been an inspiration to many children for their beauty and charm. But according to critics, the iconic characters like Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, or Ariel have not been representing every woman out there.
The lack of plus-size bodies and skin colors was precisely what inspired social media influencer Natasha Polis and her friends to launch the #PlusSizePrincessProject. “We take up more space than most, yet our larger bodies are clearly lacking representation in media. So here’s our response this Halloween: 21 influencers dressing up in our own style as beloved female Disney characters,” Natasha wrote to her 77.4k followers on Instagram and shared the photos of the plus-size princesses.
Both inclusive and diverse, the pictures prove that queens and princesses come in all styles, backgrounds, shapes, forms, colors, and sizes and that whoever had a dream to become one as a child has no reason to think they shouldn’t.

To find out more about the Plus-Size Princess Project, Bored Panda reached out to one of the participants, Michaela McGrady, who’s a plus-size model, social media influencer, and body neutrality advocate from LA.
Michaela dressed up as her favorite character Princess Anna, while her sister Hunter transformed into Princess Elsa. “Anna and Elsa represent a strong sisterly bond that she and I share. We would really do anything for each other, so to be able to bring that to life was so exciting for us!”
Michaela also said that being able to put the plus-size spin on the transformations was very important to women. “I know that seeing someone who had a body type like me when I was a young girl would have been life-changing.”

Michaela believes that there’s an inherent bias within the beauty and fashion industries, which are “saturated with antiquated ideals. The truth is 68% of shoppers are considered plus-size. Designers and fashion houses have to start at the beginning by diversifying the people they hire and the bodies they seek to dress.”
In reality, the one-size-fits-all concept is ancient history, according to the plus-size model. “At this point, it’s either get on board with the rest of the world or get left in the dust,” she added.
But no journey towards body positivity and accepting yourself is easy. “It truly is a journey with many ups and downs, good days and bad days, and it’s all about getting to a place where the incredible significance of physical attractiveness is dialed down and how you feel about yourself isn’t affected by your appearance.”

literally 2 of the other men in the movie Mulan were plus size. it doesn't matter what race, what age, and what size you are to dress up and feel good about yourself. for example I am mixed (black and white) for Halloween I wanted to go as froggy from my hero academia so I started making my costume i showed some of my friends and they said I couldn't be froggy because of how dark my skin was, I still went and I felt great in my costume and I actually won a costume contest. it doesn't matter who you are or what you want to be do what makes you happy

@Chrissie M. it doesn't matter whether the men or women in the movie are plus sized (after a little while I remembered that there is actually a plus sized woman in Mulan the woman who was trying to teach Mulan how to be a proper wife) what matters is if this woman in this picture is happy if she feels comfortable if she feels good about her self, it doesn't matter what size she is she can still be Mulan

Yes, there are many body types and we should all not judge. But.. I think there is a fine line here. I think we need to draw the line at health. A few of these are in an unhealthy weight category and I don't think we should normalize that. Nor should we normalize the skinny models. Those are unhealthy too. Let's keep it between a US 6-16 as normal bodies (and if you are naturally smaller - fine, but there isn't something as being naturally bigger than that, unless you are pregnant)
I've had family members die of obesity-related causes, and others who have survived but still struggled greatly. While I understand that you can be a little on the chubby side and still be healthy, we need to stop glamorizing actual obesity. It's deadly

I think they were all really pretty but if you look at the movies they have ballgowns most of them and these were kind of just a spring dress with a cape also the Cinderella one the model was beautiful but the dress wasn't like Cinderellas at all the only thing in common was blue that's about it
Stop trying to validate your lifestyle where you refuse to take care of yourself. I understand some women are a bit chubby and have square body shape like myself. But some of these women are WAY too overweight and it can lead to a lot of problems. Bruh, we are way too advanced in civilization to pretend like weight-related health issues don't exist.
Come on ... Obviously being overweight is neither a crime nor a shame, and many women are attractive and successful even if they are overweight. But I would like to know, but honestly, who believes that the protagonists of these photos are more beautiful than their counterparts. Being beautiful is not an obligation, you can also simply be attractive and intelligent ... but don't tell me that the dream princess weighs 150 kilos.

All of them were pretty (don't listen to the haters) I'm a bit big for my age too but not by much just 30 pounds more than my friend
Wow. So much body shaming in these posts. Unless you are the doctor of any of these women, you have no idea how healthy they are. I am overweight - I wear a US size 12. I had my annual check up last month. My heart is healthy. My blood sugar is great - no diabetes, no pre-diabetes. My cholesterol is great. My blood pressure is great. I'm in excellent health. I eat healthy food. I exercise. I do yoga. I just happen to be bigger. My doctor knows how frustrated I am that I can't lose weight, but says I should be happy to be so healthy. (And yes, I have been tested for everything- thyroid issues, insulin resistance, vitamin deficiencies, various disorders - I've spent thousands on bloodwork. I'm stupidly healthy. )
Only few of the above girls are around US size 12, others are way bigger. You honestly think that, let say, a girl in Tinkerbell costume can run a mile or take stairs to 10th floor without any problem? Unlikely. When person can't do basic fitness routine, their are not healthy.
