Family Drama Ensues After Brother Refused To Lend His Sibling His New Truck To Transport 3,000 Lb. Of Concrete
Share your toys and half the cookie; let them borrow your crayons, and don’t be a meanie – yadda, yadda, yadda.
From the very beginning, our parents taught us to share everything, and although this handy motto introduces little ones to the essence of community, sharing is not always caring.
The problem is that with this kind of notion, you don’t get the space to enjoy things on your own. It drags on with you into adulthood, where you begin to share things like time, attention, and energy with folks that are not worth it, purely because you fear getting labeled as selfish.
Lending things, whether it’s something material like your recently purchased 2019 Ford Raptor or something as silly as a couple of hours of your day, should only happen if that’s what you desire, not because it’s a conditioned feeling of responsibility.

“No” is a complete sentence, even when it comes to your family

“AITA for not letting my brother use my new (to me) truck for hauling a ton of concrete?” – this netizen took to one of Reddit’s communities to seek unbiased opinions and determine whether he’s indeed a jerk for not lending his new truck to his sibling. So far, the post has received 206 upvotes, as well as 73 comments discussing the situation.
Guy asks if he’s in the wrong for refusing to lend his sibling his new truck to haul 3,000 pounds of concrete

The man began his post by sharing that he’d recently bought his dream car. It’s a 2019 Ford Raptor, and although it took him a while to be able to afford it, he did work his head off for it.
He’s currently finishing his degree, and the truck was something that he’d wanted for a long time. Needless to say, after he purchased the vehicle, he sent his family some pictures and told them that he’d be visiting them more often, as they live quite far apart.
The OP had to work really hard for it, but he was finally able to afford his dream car at the age of 23

The OP also said that he’d changed the shocks and that while he intends to take the truck off-road, he doesn’t plan on beating it up; it’s a “pavement princess” as he’s unable to afford another one if something were to happen to this one.
The man and his close ones also joked about how he’s never going to use it as a truck and haul or tow anything. He said that maybe he’ll buy a trailer for his motorcycle and tow that, but the heaviest thing he’s willing to haul is a barbell and a couple of plates that he’s going to pick up soon.
He showed off his exciting purchase to his siblings, and said that while he intends to take it off-road, he’s not going to beat it up

Fast forward to the trip to his family’s house, where he went to show off the truck and drive his nieces and nephews around. Everything was fine until his brother asked whether they could pick up an order of his. At first, the OP hesitated, but his sibling assured him that it was just a few bags of concrete. As it turns out, however, “a few” actually meant an entire pallet, which amounted to a whopping 3,000 pounds.
Recently he travelled to see his family, and his brother wondered whether they could pick up “a few” bags of concrete

Naturally, the guy refused immediately, but he offered to pay half for the rental of one of the supplier’s trucks, just so that he didn’t have to put that kind of weight in his own. The brother didn’t like it and pettily asked if he was actually acting like that over a truck.
He then stated that his other siblings sided with him, and that one of the sisters threw some facts in and said that the vehicle isn’t made to carry all that weight at all.
Naturally, he rejected, learning later that it was actually a whole pallet weighing over 3,000 lbs.

His dad and uncle, on the other hand, agreed with his brother, but he said that they’re “old-school dudes” who don’t understand the idea of a truck that wasn’t made to carry or tow stuff. The man’s mom was in a separate world, as she was just happy to have her kids and grandchildren under one roof, so he didn’t get her thoughts on this at the time. However, she did text the OP recently, saying something about family and how vital it is to be there for them.

Share on FacebookTruck is made for the road/track. Even if you had a 3500 HD Diesel just for the looks and dont want to use it for that, its your choice your truck. Your brother is a douche
Brother was just too cheap to pay for delivery - which they will absolutely do for you if you book it.
Raptors are only rated for 1/3 of that weight. And the guys brother is an AH for lying to him about how big the order was.
100% NTA. Your truck, your rules. I did get a giggle out of someone commenting "truck tax" and the OP responding that he paid taxes when he bought it. I think maybe he didn't understand that truck tax isn't a money thing, it's a time thing. When you get a truck you're basically signing up for everyone you know asking for favors about moving this or that around. I've been there lol. I hope OP put his foot down and that he's enjoying the he!! out of the truck. He worked hella hard for it and deserves it!
I mean its $20 at Home Depot or Uhaul to rent a sturdy work truck. Obviously they were being a cheapskate (especially since you offered half) and they just didnt want to spend any money. Sad theyd rather mess up your truck than pay $20. I got people in my family always seeking free things or help who refuse to work, I learned the power of no. Fine line between love and enabling.
Rented a U-Haul box truck to bring home a fridge from Lowe's in April 2020. Delivery would have been 3 weeks and my old fridge already died. The rental was $20 but the charge for 20 miles was $20 plus a couple gallons of gas. Still very reasonable and nothing broke!
Load More Replies...Pallets are about 81 bags at 50-60lbs each. It would wreck that truck. It's ur toy. What if u came on your motorcycle? Nopes.
Got a feeling brother didn't care was over the load limit and the truck got torn up, he just wanted to save his $$.
Lowes will deliver just about anything for a delivery fee. In my area of Ohio, it would cost about $80, I think. The bags are 94 pounds each.
It'd be worth it, especially if they off loaded the truck too.
Load More Replies...I don't get where family members feel the need to chime in with their opinion. It's your truck, you have every right to treat it the one you want to.
His brother and mother are the a*****es. Mother showed such disrespect in guilting him to risk his truck. She wouldn't have fixed the truck if... she should have told bro to back off, etc. I have been burned many times because of my being nice. Nobody appreciates your (or my) niceness. You learn to avoid certain people and situations. I agree with Jenny above. It's amazing how the nice, generous people are criticized. Losers and users are babied.
Load More Replies...I’ve had a variety works vans and trucks down the years. Lost count of how many times I said NO. Just ‘cause you THINK they’ll do the job you want doesn’t mean I WANT to or my vehicle can do the job. Got a big job on? Hire the right truck, cost it into the job. Aside from that my personal cars have been my big boys toys, they may very well be treated like kings, IDGAF what you think about that, you ain’t borrowing my convertible because it’s sunny and you want to play, if you want ANY vehicle that badly then rent or buy one. I’m not Hertz!
OP needs to check the payload capacity and road safety legislation for his truck class so he knows what he can and can't carry safely and legally. In this case he would have far exceeded the safe load if he'd taken the cement. Helping his brother would have been the AH move, because it would likely have destroyed the vehicle, and could have put them and other road users in danger. He needs to check safety guidelines so he knows what to refuse to move in future, because it doesn't always have to be over the load weight to be unsafe.
A truck can easily tow that, but you wouldn't want to toss basically the weight of a car into the bed of the truck. Payload and towing capacity isn't the same.
It took me two seconds to look up the weight capacity for that truck. I’m mystified as to why he or his brother didn’t do that. So knowing, the truck’s weight capacity is 1400 lbs, that’s three trip in that truck.
I didn't even have to read the whole story. Actually, I didn't have to read anything beyond the headline. It is your truck. You don't have to share your vehicle if you don't want to.. Your brother is just an a*****e who is too cheap to pay for delivery.
This is of course, BS, the bro needs to pay for delivery !! For years I owned and would haul things for people, it was a 1969 Chevy diesel, rated at 2,000 lbs, But I couldn't do 3,000 in that one either !!!
Almost everyone I know owns a pickup truck. I have never asked to borrow one. Ever. If I needed to have material, junk, feed or whatever hauled, I could rent a truck by the hour and not care about damaging it. I would certainly ask them for help doing the work if they could, but never for the truck.
I would have said, sure, as long as you understand that we'll take 3 trips to move all that. Also, who's going to do all the lifting?
Other Pandas have already spoken about the OP's tale, so instead I'll discuss the editing of it. This post typifies a failing that is common in BP: the editor repeatedly does one or both of two things: 1, Interrupt the OP's narrative to say what he is going to say himself; 2, Interrupt to repeat when he has already said. That reveals a basic misunderstanding of an editor's job, which essentially is to 1, select a narrative for publication; 2, advise the author when clarification is required; 3, make or have the author make the necessary alterations,;4, correct misspellings, incorrect usages and grammar; and 5, get out of the way and let the author tell the story. I have been a professional magazine writer and editor for 50 years. As an editor I would never inflict myself on the author's story. As a writer I have occasionally had poor editing, but I never had an editor who clumsily competed with me in that way. Do your own job, not the writer's.
At the end of the day it's your truck. It doesn't matter what it holds. You also offered to help pay for a truck to transport the concrete. That's a deal to me and that's still being there for family. It was a good compromise. Bro was being a bit selfish himself if you ask me.
Makes you wonder if the brother is the "baby" of the family acting like the baby of the family.
So NTA he did lie and the op did say in the group chat it's not for hauling. I can't stand family that just don't care who stuff they mess up. This man literally saved for his truck. He had to been saving for sometime. 23 owing your dream car that's awesome. Maybe bro can take a lesson from him. But no matter what it's his truck his rules. If OP would have made the thousands of trips to load and unload all of that and his truck got mess up in the brother wouldn't had paid for nothing to get fix. It's funny I hate when my family does stuff like this. Don't have nor 1 ounce of respect for other people's things but wouldn't treat their own property with respect. Brother probably planned it and base it off of OP coming to visit. Selfish A**hole the brother is.
I would have agreed to 10 bags at a time he loads/unloads it all and pays for gas and a carwash😂
My dad had trucks all his life. Used to joke about getting him the bumper sticker "yes this is my truck. No I won't help you move."
Yep you have the wherewithal to deny or accept circumstances related to your property. No is simply that. No way on earth I would do a heavy load like that with my truck ( 2004 Chevy Avalanche). I did a couple move jobs like a dresser and my nephews stuff we hauled to his college. All that in total probably was t even 250lbs lol
Several years ago My Wife and I purchased a Chevy Silverado 4x4 crew cab and the first thing I did was to let people know it was Not meant to be a 'work truck' in that It was not meant to haul construction material nor trash to the local landfill, especially for people who I hadn't seen for a considerable amount of time. If and when I will do someone the courtesy of lending my time to move or transport a new couch, etc. It must fit inside the truck bed, but for numerous items or heavy will need to rent a trailer large enough to fit their needs and depending on the distance also pay for my fuel both ways, since in the past I've been 'put-upon' to help move people who never once offered their help when I needed it or to 'sign' them in to Disneyland when I used to work there, which was a 100 mile round trip and 4 or 5 hours in traffic on my day off. So I've learned to set limits even though I am willing to help otherwise people will forget your time is valuable - if only to yourself
We have a roommate like this, oh you have well maintained vehicles, I bet you want to drive me everywhere. When we do he constantly charges the destination.
No. The brother lied when he said it was a "few bags." Why the hell should he help the weasel after that? He ordered the pallet, he can bloody pay to haul the stuff.
Load More Replies...Tell your parents and uncle to take a chill pill, unless they are making the payments, it’s your truck, and sounds like your baby, and I don’t blame you, those are not cheap vehicles. Very good way to lose people you care about.
Nah.. Bought a raptor, if he'd bought a hilux or tundra I'd say it wast a problem, but that Ford is built to break, (bad ranger experience, Toyota has served me exceptionally well) yes yes every South African will rant ranger vs hilux
Post stated concrete, so that's all we have to go on.Regardless of what it is, what I wanna know is what brother Chucklefuck is gonna do with it. That's a metric c**p load to mix up in a pull behind mixer.

Sometimes folks want something other than a normal car. If he worked and saved and was able to get what he wanted, it's his decision to make.🤷🏽♂️ Takes all kinds to make the world go round. Also, it's not like he never hauls anything. Read something about a dresser in the reddit comments and he was willing to haul a *few* bags of concrete, just not twice the load capacity of his truck.
