Sadly, “boss” has become a universal curse word. It probably wouldn’t come as a surprise if online dictionaries started listing it as a synonym for an angry stare, unachievable command, and inability to listen.
However, Reddit user Winiri just shared their personal story, showing that good bosses are still around even if they are an endangered species.
In a post titled “My Boss Scared Off Rude Customers by Literally Taking a Closer Look”, Winiri explained how the woman who ran the shop they were working at stood up for her staff, scaring away a couple of Karens for good. In just a few days, the post has received over 35,000 likes and 500 comments, many of which are praising the lady for her quick thinking. So you know it’s going to be good. Continue scrolling and check it out.

Interestingly, studies show that some people find their bosses so annoying, they leave well-rewarding employment just to get away from them.
One company that understands this really well and cares about its bosses is Google. For over a decade, researchers at the tech giant have been analyzing the behaviors of their highest-rated managers, as well as feedback from employee satisfaction surveys, to figure out what the best have in common.
Google then uses its research to train its managers and has reportedly seen improvements in employee retention and productivity because of that.
Here are the things they found good bosses do: they are good coaches, they empower the team instead of micromanaging, create an inclusive team environment, and show concern for success and wellbeing, they are productive and focused on results, they are good communicators, they support career development and discuss performance. They also have a clear strategy for the team, as well as the technical skills needed to advise the team, they collaborate across the organization and are strong decision makers.
Something tells me Irene might’ve made a good career there.
People were really impressed by the way Irene stood up for her staff
I live in Germany and here the customer service is generally not great compared to the US or UK - if you tried something like that here you'd get a pretty blunt reaction, even in a big international retail chain. But having dealt with the kind of stuff like in this story for a decade in the UK, I'd rather shop in a place where employees are allowed to keep their self respect and their job.
Amen. I have "engaged" asshole customers like this in the past. I was behind some arrogant c**t in a Starbucks being a complete asshole to the lady at the register. I reached around the c**t to put a dollar in the tip jar. She stopped her tirade for a moment to process what happened and then started into the poor woman again. Again, I reached around her and put another dollar in the jar. The third time I did this she glared at me and asked what I was doing. I told her I was "tipping the young woman for putting with your s**t." I showed her I had about 10 more singles to go. She glared at me and I just stared at her without emotion. After about 15 awkward seconds she turned around and finished her business with the young lady at the register.
Load More Replies...I always hated the expression and view that "the customer is always right". No one is ALWAYS right and no one has a right to be rude or nasty.
Which is the only reason I have never worked with the public. I was brought up to treat people how they treat you....go figure. lol
Load More Replies...While I agree she was a jerk, it's entirely possible that she is a size 2 in new clothing. Vanity sizing has changed women's sizes considerably. I know, being petite. I literally cannot find panties small enough for me anymore. The problem is that clothing manufacturers base their size "medium" on the average customer...and obesity is rampant in the US.
Why does size matter or what the label says? You found vintage clothing that you liked enough to take a closer look. It screams of deep rooted insecurity that these people are not paid enough to deal with. Excuse the grammar, I’ve been rusty.
I can see her husband agree accidentally too loudly: "She's a two! Sadly. I married a six but those days are gone... that's what she remembers."
Jerkina trained him well. He knows if he wants her to hand him his balls back, he had netter agree with her—-loudly—-every time she opens her nasty mouth.
Load More Replies...I'm sure this is a made up joke for the FB crowd. Any woman in the US who is a size 2 would know that NO stores carry much stock (if any) and it really needs to be special ordered. Especially a thrift store? Hon, they ain't gonna have your size. SMH.
First, no excuse for taking out your problems on a customer. Second, sizes vary from store to store, sometimes even within the same store. Do I think we should try to make sizing more consistent, yes, but I guarantee you no one in that store is in charge of that part. We don't make the rules we just work there
I always need to do some mental maths when I see American sizes, we don't have size 0, our adult sizes start at size 8, or maybe a size 6 if you have teen clothes. Size 2 would be about an 8 year old child!
Omfg!! I LOVE Irene! If I had a glass eye, I would've done the same thing.
Anyone else think of video game bosses when they hear "boss"? Just me? I also think of bossy, because I am, I have younger siblings
JERKINA should replace the other word to describe entitled, irrational women/females. BoredPanda staff, I get that you can’t moderate everyone’s comments when they’re problematic, but stop propagating and cementing the use of someone’s name as a lazy way to describe rude behavior in your articles.
