On September 7th, 2021, honoring the 25th anniversary of the Blue's Clues franchise, Steve returned on camera with what the internet dubbed the most heartfelt message of the decade. He gave a brief explanation for why he left, how he hasn’t seen you for a very long time, and how looking back... he is so proud of what you have become. Yes, Steve has never, ever forgotten you.
The video has since gone viral on Twitter with a whopping 37.4M views, after Nick Jr. posted it with the caption “So about that time Steve went off to college…” Immediately, the internet just couldn’t miss a chance to do what it knows the best and make some memes in response.
Varying from pure wholesomeness to sheer absurdity, Steve memes sum up what it is like for millennials to turn into adults and it's honestly way too relatable.

I'm not crying, you are. But wait, I am actually crying. In a video that baby boomers and Gen Z’s most likely won’t relate to, Steve Burns came back to explain to his avid former viewers, now fully grown-up millennials, what was the reason behind him leaving. After all, his exit in 2002 once caused Rasha, a character from the TV show, proper abandonment issues.
In a new viral video, Steve explained that he went off to college and passed his duties on to his brother Joe. 20 years later, his sentimental comeback made every '90s kid break down by pointing out a painfully accurate shift into our millennial adulthood.
“We started out with clues and now it's what? Student loans, and jobs, and families and some of it has been kind of hard, you know? I know you know," he said, making everyone tearful. Paradoxically, Steve, who promised he never forgot us, was mostly forgotten himself. But today, telling everyone we’re all going to be alright and that he’s proud of us is a big warm hug many of us haven't had for ages.
I watched Blues Clues as a kid, with my big brother. We were both born in the 2000's.
It started in the 90s but it was on for a while
Load More Replies...I’m a 2000’s kid but in my country these were played then. So yeah. Same
He's one of the main characters in a TV show called "Blues Clues". It's about a little blue dog and her person as they...idk, solve stuff? Learn to read? I last watched it when I was like 5.
Load More Replies...I have seen some memes about that. I really don't know who this "Steve" guy is.
This man was important to my kids an he spoke directly to the kids. It was new and it was special. Now it is the norm. Steve is OG.
this broke me. circa age 3, i watched a TON of blue's clues. i never got to the episode where steve left (that i remember) but this video nearly made me cry. if steve is actually mean in real life, i will be sad. he is the Mr. Rogers of my generation.
Imagine if he returned as the host in the next season of Blue's Clues and You.
Sorry, never heard about this guy or the show mentioned but it is a nice idea, I guess?
