I don't remember my first day of school, but judging by the expressions of these funny kids, they're sure going to recollect theirs. And as perplexed as they might look, it is an excellent opportunity for some funny school memes for us!
The first day of school can be pleasant or traumatizing for a small child, depending on what their expectations are and how well they were prepared for this new chapter. However, for these unlucky kids, after the first school day experience like this one, they probably won't be asking the dreaded question, "when is the first day at school?" anytime soon.
As you can see from these funny before and after pictures compiled by Bored Panda, some of these kids looked positively excited to be attending their first day of a new school year. However, education can do strange things to a kid, which is why by the end they looked fed up, traumatized, and in some cases shell-shocked. Still, elementary school is nothing compared to high school, so hang in there, kids! My first year of teaching I had two kindergarten classes of 32 children each. I went to school happy and excited. At the end of the day I drove home, walked through the house and fell on my bed and slept for two hours. I did go back and taught kindergarten for 5 more years. I would often find a little one sleeping in the home center when school was over for the day. I am retired now after 41 years of teaching 16 of those in kindergarten.

This list is cute, but it kinda makes me sad to see kids "internally killed" inside like that. Tells me about education systems needing some change, which is, actually still being experimented upon, so I hope it'll get better eventually. Anyway, as things are now, I wish the best of luck for these kids. And I believe they will learn to adapt in a way they can still be themselves and love happily within the boundaries of academic obbligations.

These pics made me a bit sad. There's something seriously wrong with our school systems if the children are this exhausted and defeated after just one day. :-(

My first DAYS at school were filled with me crying...But again- I was in a foreign country, not knowing the local language. Got lucky to meet a boy who was mixed just like me. He has been a good friend ever since (21 years now) :)

I wish I had an image to add. When my oldest was in third grade, we got into an argument because he did not want to go to school. I made him sit on the couch with his hat, gloves and coat + backpack, figured I'd wait him out. Looked over 5 minutes later... he was asleep. Guess who won that round?

Kindergarten should have stayed 1/2 day. A whole day is too much for 5 year olds.

I don't get this article. Kids have just spent all day at school, they're T I R E D. They're not going to look fresh as daisies, as they do heading off. I'm sure photos before and after work of any adult would be similar. This is a ridiculous comparison. Surprised not more people observe that? 🤔🙄

I am definitely someone who has concerns about public schools but not because of things like these pictures. Between the adrenaline rushes, many not sleeping well the night before because of excitement, a brand new routine at school, so much to learn, being around more people than normal, it's very predictable that they would just be completely spent at the end of their first day!

Makes me glad I homeschool my kids! They get to sleep in if they need it. Most kids don’t seem unhappy at school here in Canada but we also have an extensive homeschool community so you get to choose where you want your kids to go. It makes for awesome diversity!

I blame the media. It always depicts school as some cool and funny place so makes the kid's expectation high. Then the reality crush into her face so hard it kicks out her teeth.
