Folks Online Are Obsessed With This American Woman Trolling Her Italian Husband By Breaking Unspoken “Italian Rules” (12 Situations)
Being in a relationship with someone from another country can be really interesting as you’re entering a new world with new traditions, customs, superstitions and just everyday things done differently. It’s not only you that gets educated but also the other person can learn about your culture as well.
Aside from that, there could be a lot of friendly teasing involved too, especially if the person comes from a well-known culture that has a lot of stereotypes attached to it, say, Italian.

Telling My Italian Fiancé We Have Plans During The Euro 2020 Final
Italians are very passionate about their food and will fight you if you prepare it incorrectly, but their other passion is football, especially among men. Italy is a country with a rich football history, their teams are always among the elite ones and they are the most recent winners of the European championship.
So when Sarah decided to prank Carlo and announced that they have plans for the evening when the finals were supposed to take place, he was quite dissatisfied. He couldn’t imagine himself missing such an important sporting event, though he worded it so nicely, “I love you so much, but, please, don’t ask me something like this, because there is the final of European [championship] that I talked to you about from the beginning of it and now you ask me to go out to visit your aunt, that I respect, but, please, there is the final.”

I'm French and I stand with Carlo! congrats Italia for this beautiful Euro!
Indeed, congratulations Italia - it was a well deserved win and a great final. I'm English so you know it hurts to say that lol... we came so close...
Carlo Longo and Sarah Mollica are an international couple with the husband being Italian and the wife being American. They met for the first time in Italy while Sarah was visiting her relatives. It all started with a long distance relationship, then they’ve been engaged for a while and now the two of them are a married couple.
On their TikTok account @carloandsarah they have quite a following of 1.4 million. Their videos consist of pranks and people love their chemistry. The pranks are not one-sided although it seems that Sarah is more active with creating videos than Carlo.
Breaking Spaghetti In Front Of My Italian Fiancé
The video begins with Sarah innocently asking how much spaghetti would be enough and then snaps them in half to the horror of Carlo. He is seemingly in disbelief of what he has just witnessed and is disgusted that he will have to eat it after. His first reaction is “Sarah, ma tu sei pazza!” which translates to “Sarah, you’re crazy!” In this video he is being really dramatic going as far as to say that breaking pasta is illegal in Italy.
There is a reason why spaghetti shouldn’t be broken into small pieces. It’s because they should be eaten by wrapping the pasta on the fork and you will succeed in that only if you leave spaghetti long. What is more, eating it in this way is the least messy.
You can watch the video by clicking here.
Breaking spaghetti makes sense. It's still long enough to wrap around the fork. Breaking it in half =/= cutting it into confetti size pieces
No surprise if you add ketchup or chocolate syrup
Load More Replies...You can imagine what respect do they have for what they eat.
Load More Replies...Because there is thousands of types of pasta, just don't buy long ones if you don't like them or want to cut them. Spaghetti are long for a reason, it is used to retain the sauce with tiny bits when you twirl it, like with ragu bolognese or seafood. The different shapes of pasta are not for fun or for the look, but they have different cooking purposes depending on the sauce (liquid, thick, with tiny or big bits). Even little differences like smooth or striped, like for penne for example, the penne lisce for thick sauces and penne rigate for more liquids sauce so the stripes helps to retain the sauce. Pasta is science.
Load More Replies...Do not break spaghetti - it's not right....and it hurts the spaghetti!
I always break them. And I eat them with knife and fork. And I don't care. I CAN eat long spaghetti while twirling them around a fork. But I don't like it. I do that in the public. I only eat them broken and "wrong" in privat.
Telling My Italian Fiancé That I Want Pineapple On My Pizza
The debate whether pineapple belongs on pizza probably will never end. It is known that Italians condemned this kind of topping but turns out that Carlo isn’t one of them. In the video Sarah and Carlo are at an Italian restaurant and the woman asks her then fiancé what would happen if she would order some pizza with pineapple.
Carlo has an unexpectedly calm reaction, he even admits that he’s tried it in America and it was not that bad, but explains that in Italy you don’t do such things. Even though the explanation is calm, it’s as dramatic as ever as the Italian says, “If you do something like so, I can’t continue to live here. If somebody knows that you are my fiancé and here you ask pineapple, I can’t live here.”

I am Italian (born and raised) and I friggin' LOVE pineapple on my pizza. It is a matter of taste...that's it.
You just have to get over the initial shock and horror and try it.
Load More Replies...I freaking LOVE that he's actually doing the Italian hand thing. BWAHAHAHHAHA
The guy is holding his heart to don't go out of his chest.
The couple’s videos go viral on a regular basis, easily passing the one million mark. One of the most popular videos on their page is of Sarah seeing what Carlo’s reaction will be to her breaking spaghetti in half. That video was watched 75.3 million times. Some people were on Carlo’s side saying that it is indeed a crime and should not be done, others were just adoring the sweet interaction.
Asking My Italian Fiancé For A Cappuccino After Lunch
There is no written rule that you cannot drink cappuccino after lunch but it is a habit that Italians have that they don’t break. One of the reasons that it is frowned upon to drink cappuccino at any other time of the day except for the morning is that this kind of coffee is quite heavy and is more of a calorie bomb with all the fat milk and sugar.
So when Sarah asks Carlo to make her a cappuccino and it’s past lunch time, the husband has difficulty finding words after such a request. The cherry on top is Sarah bringing coconut milk for him so he could make her coffee and then Carlo loses it, “Cappuccino with coconut milk? Already cappuccino after lunch is a freaking weird situation.”
You can watch the video by clicking here.
I live in Naples, Italy, and other than at my local coffee shop, where they know me, I ALWAYS get strange looks for ordering cappuccino after 10 am. But no one has ever been anything other than kind and wonderful, regardless of what I’m drinking…
Cappuccino anytime of the day is ok! If you think otherwise ... who cares
I feel so much sorrow for all those people on the "who cares". They will never learn to enjoy little pleasures in the life. They are happy with the "who cares" if they add ketchup to a cappuccino. Poor of them!
Load More Replies...I eat pancakes or an egg any time time of the day. As long as coffeine does no affect sleep time - who's the F business when i drink my coffee??
So where do I stand, I hate all forms of COFFEE, it doesn't matter which country it is from.
Over in the UK we just drink what we want, when we want it - there are no rules about it!
we have all around the clock drinks in Malaysia called Teh Tarik.. u can have it in the morning, afternoon, tea time, night, dinner, breakfast, lunch, supper, weekend, weekdays, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. All time fovurite.
Everywhere there are drinks that you can take around the clock.
Load More Replies...Showing My Italian Fiancé The New Pasta Chip Trend
If you're on food TikTok then you most probably saw the trend of making pasta chips. Essentially, what you do is cook the pasta, put olive oil, cheese and then put it in the air fryer. The pasta supposedly comes out crispy and is a great snack.
Sarah shows the TikTok video to her husband and his reaction is not disappointing. At first he just looks confused but when the air fryer part comes in Carlo is in disbelief that someone could fry the pasta. His jaw drop says it all.
You can watch the video by clicking here.
His face says it all. I don't even need to see the trend anymore.
I'm sorry... But it actually sounds kinda good... I've eaten raw pasta for the crunch. Don't tell Carlo.
Carlo and Sarah's relationship wasn't smooth-sailing as due to Covid restrictions they couldn’t see each other but at the end it turned out that this fairy tale had a happy ending because they persevered and love was triumphant as on June 12 they got married. So it seems that the pranks don’t bother Carlo that much and they are created for their own and the viewers enjoyment.
Putting French Fries In Ice Cream In Front Of My Italian Fiancé
Another hilarious video that went viral with 9.2M views on the couple’s TikTok is of Sarah eating French fries with ice-cream. Granted, the ice-cream in her hands isn’t an Italian gelato but nevertheless, Carlo has a shocked expression on his face. And what indicates that he seriously doesn’t approve this is that this time, he is calling Sarah by her name when usuallyhe addresses her with an endearing ‘Angel’ or ‘Love.’
You can watch the video by clicking here.
You don't have to like it but I love it, the perfect combination of sweet and salty
Load More Replies...How is this breaking any "Italian rules"? French fries are not even Italian!
You don't have to be from the country to respect some food rules. I'm not italian and i never joke with pasta, i'm not japanese and i never joke with rice, soy sauce and sashimi, and i'm horrified when i see disturbing stuff about them.
Load More Replies...My Italian best friend (both of us are Canadian born) and I dip our fries into Frosties at Wendy's. HE TAUGHT ME this delectable combination. To each their own though :)
Man, I have serious reservations about this guy. I have NEVER told a partner that she can't eat what she wants to.
Not Twirling My Spaghetti In Front Of My Italian Husband
The most recent video that the couple has put up was of a family dinner where the main dish was spaghetti. The video was posted just one day ago and it has already been viewed 15.9 million times and liked 2.1 million times. This time Sarah decided to see what reaction Carlo would have if she would eat spaghetti without twirling it around the fork and just picking it up as it is and slurping it.
At first her husband doesn’t even notice but when he does, he is shaking his head and tries to explain that this is not how you eat spaghetti. Carlo asks, “But you never eat pasta, sorry?” He even apologizes to his family that they also had to witness such a sacrilegious way of eating this Italian dish.

Being obnoxious/annoying to your partner (within reason) is a keystone to any successful marriage
Load More Replies...He's being sweet about it. In western culture you don't bring your face to the plate. You're a grown woman
Oh yes when i was a kid my mother always said "it's your fork who go to your mouth and not your mouth who go to the fork!" among the usual "straight back", "keep your elbows off the table", "keep your hands over the table"... i found it annoying as a kid but thanks to it i know how to eat correctly.
Load More Replies...My italian grandfather cut it with a fork and held twirlers in disdain.
I am not Italian, but my friend from Long Island NY is (her ma and pa are immigrants). She cuts her noodles, and when she told me this, that was it for me. I cut my noodles.
Load More Replies...Asking My Italian Fiancé What He Would Do If I Put Ketchup On My Pasta
One of the first videos of this series of breaking some stereotypical “rules” Italians follow was about putting ketchup on pasta. Pasta with ketchup is kind of on the same level as pineapples on pizza for Italians. Maybe because it is often associated with junk food or because it is seen as lower quality because there are no visible tomatoes there.
Whatever the reason, when Sarah mentioned what would Carlo do if she would put ketchup on pasta, he dramatically turns around and has a face of disgust, “If you try to put ketchup on pasta, you will not eat for one year in my house.”
You can watch the video by clicking here.
I sometimes make meat pasta sauce with tomatoes, herbs, tomato sauce, meat, and oil. Is this wrong? There are “Real tomatoes” in it.
I'm not Italian so I think it's ok to add it when you're cooking but, speaking from personal experience here, it's insulting for someone to add tomato sauce/ketchup to an already cooked pasta sauce.
Load More Replies...This is not about what goes on what or how you eat spagetti. This is about "What can I get away with?" "Will you still love me no matter if...? "Please Carlo see this ugly behavior for what it is. She will run these tests on you til hell freezes and it will get worse. Run while you can.
Agree. That's a big no simply, as imho, ketchup is way too sweet for a pasta dish. {I'll feed it to my wife though}
Have you ever seen any of these videos? What are your reactions to them and do you feel Carlo’s pain? Upvote the prank that you liked the most and comment anything you would like in the comments!
Telling My Italian Fiancé That I Am Going To Make Pasta Carbonara With Hot Dogs
When this video begins, you don’t expect any insidiousness as Sarah offers to make carbonara. Carlo is a little bit surprised but goes along with it. When the American is naming what ingredients she will use, she mentions hot dogs. Carlo is at a loss for words and is just able to utter, “Che che che che?” He jokes that he will call the police for such a violent crime and is standing his ground that carbonara with hot dogs will not be happening while they’re in Italy.
You can watch the video by clicking here.
Vai, Carlo!!! Hot dog alla Carbonara? Vergognoso! *(Go, Carlo! Hot dogs in Carbonara? Disgraceful!)
If anything the majority of your are an example of these are to egg him on which is pretty funny but if your food ones are for real imo is an example of poor midwestern taste in food. Using Midwestern as a herbal example for the US. There are exceptions of course but food in the states is crap
Yes, it's generally crap. And have you tried what they consider cheese?
In your run to be repulsive, think about to add feetnails to your sandwich
Telling My Italian Fiancé I'm Going To Make His Family Chickpea Pasta
Chickpea pasta is a gluten-free alternative to traditional pasta. Each serving has two times the protein, three times the fiber, and half the net carbs of traditional pasta. Sarah wanted to cook it for Carlo’s family but we get to know that he doesn’t want her preparing it.
Carlo says that he bought that one especially for Sarah and not his family and that she is the only one who eats it. He further explains that Italians usually eat ‘normal’ pasta with the chickpeas separately on top and not integrated in the actual pasta itself. Sarah is determined to cook it and Carlo’s response is, “My love, you want that nobody eats today.” It doesn’t even matter that the brand of the pasta is Barilla.
You can watch the video by clicking here.
"It doesn’t even matter that the brand of the pasta is Barilla." It's not even a good brand, except for biscuits (delicious Baiocchi, still very industrial but good), and except their high range pasta (not the common ones but the Academia range). Pasta is made from high quality durum wheat, not whole because it affects the texture and has to be made with a bronze mold and without eggs. Or it's not pasta. Period. I'm French but i don't joke with pasta, kind regards to my Italian friends.
Is not a good brand? I buy the blue boxes and (excluding fresh pasta) these are my favorite. I've tried switching to cheaper options a few times and it's just not as good. Maybe in your country there are better alternatives?
Load More Replies...If they don't eat what others cook they are entitled b..... Then they have to cook for themselves.
I love chickpea pasta. Just have to be careful to make it al dente.
Chickpea pasta SUCKS. My mom made it once and now we call it the "Saucy Horror."
Telling Him I'm Gonna Leave The House With Wet Hair
Italians believe that if you go out with wet hair you will probably get sick, get a stiff neck or even indigestion. Clearly, Sarah knows this notion that Italians are convinced of and to tick off her then fiancé and now husband she says she’s not feeling like blow drying it,so she will just leave it to dry when they go out.
Being the caring person that Carlo is, he disagrees and tries to convince Sarah that it’s a really bad idea as it could give her a fever or a headache. He hilariously mocks her, “Yes! Why? We go out, we get a fever, we get a headache! In particular in this situation. Why? Why no, why no?”
You can watch the video by clicking here.
Yep!!!!! I was also told not to walk barefoot on tile or cold surfaces bc I’d catch a cold as well
Load More Replies...I've never blow dried my hair (it's long), I wash it three times a week, I've always went out with it wet and let it dry freely. Never got sick because of it. It's a myth.
my family believe this nonsense, too. Doesn't matter how many times i demonstrate that nothing bad has happened to me, even in Winter, they still insist.
Not just Italy, elderly parents and in laws also believe this and can't believe I haven't died in some horrible way. I have thick; curly; frizzy hair and don't own a hairdryer. If you even show my hair a dryer it has a major tantrum and refuses to cooperate. I rinse/wet my hair every morning, put product on then head to work with wet hair. Never caught a 'chill' in the 40 odd years I've been doing it. Total myth.
And Italians ARE right, because head is the warmest spot [apart of men genitals :P ] on human body, it also tends to get cold fastest... so going out with wet hair can give you headache - aka sinus pain and cold. Still - will work in summer, and if hair are not dripping wet.
Well the Mayo Clinic disagrees with that: https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/hometown-health/speaking-of-health/can-wet-hair-make-you-sick#:~:text=The%20short%20answer%20is%20no,likely%20when%20you%20go%20outside.
Load More Replies...I'll never forget my British friend living in Italy explaining this to me after her friend asked if I could close the window in 28 °c heat; I was roasting in the car but she was afraid the "chill" would make her sick. I couldn't believe it lol
So far, this is the only one I disagree with. I never liked drying my hair, in the US or Italy. I don't care what some matron says. Unless it's snowing outside and you risk hypothermia, it's OK to go out with wet hair.
This is soo not true. I live in Michigan and haven't used a blow dryer since 2001. Regularly went out in snow and ice storms to wait for the bus. No problems. Take vitamins.
Telling My Italian Fiancé I'm Going To Brush My Teeth In The Bidet
Bidets are pretty common in the Arab world, West Africa, southern European countries, like Italy. Every bathroom fixture has its own function and when Sarah says she will brush her teeth in the bidet, Carlo pulls her away from it. For Sarah it seems that the bidet has the same water as the sink, but the Italian disagrees and threatens Sarah, “I won’t kiss you again.”
You can watch the video by clicking here.
To be fair, the water coming up out of a bidet is as clean as the water in your tap at the sink, (assuming your clean the bidet as often as you clean your sink). However, it's still laughable, as she is obviously just setting him up for reaction.
