The common chicken is not known for being particularly stunning – but a new fad has allowed these farm birds to peacock around the yard. Photos of chickens in tutu skirts have been paraded across the internet and we all agree it is our new favorite thing. Forget chickens in diapers, these robust birds have been accessorized to look stage-ready with ballet tutus, and you won’t be able to hold your applause.
Bored Panda has collected an ensemble of chasséing chickens in their tulle tutus that are sure to make you smile and maybe even dance. Scroll down below to check out these adorable chicken photos and don’t forget to upvote your favs!

Animals may not be able to perform the same elaborate choreography that humans do, but that doesn’t mean they don’t dance. According to Ed Hagen, an anthropologist at Washington State University, who has researched the roots of dance, we can observe lots of animals dancing in nature. These movements can help communicate important information and help find a mate. The process of using dance to find a mate is part of something called courtship – which can be observed in chickens.

Extension poultry scientists from the University of Georgia explains the courtship and mating of chickens as a sequence of events: “dropping one wing and dancing in a circle (the lowered wing will be on the inside of the circle dance). The hen will crouch (dip her head and body) to indicate receptiveness to the male. The rooster will then mount the hen and grab her comb, neck feathers, or the skin on the back of her head or neck to help hold onto the hen’s back.”

Another dance performed by roosters is called ‘tidbitting’ in which they make sounds (food calls) and move their head up and down while picking up and dropping a bit of food. Researchers have found that females prefer males that frequently perform tidbitting and have larger, brighter combs on the tops of their heads.

There are more chickens than people on earth – 25 billion. There are also more chickens than any other bird species. Chickens were first domesticated in Southern China around 8,000 years ago in 6000 B.C. These birds have prehistoric roots and are the closest living relative of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Chickens are more intelligent than many humans may realize. They can remember over 100 different faces of people or animals, with memories rivaling those of elephants. Some Research suggests that chickens are more clever than toddlers. Hens have exhibited mathematical reasoning, self-control and even structural engineering.

What do I think? That stupid people have more money than sense. Do NOT put your chicken in a tutu you silly person. Hens should be out and about, digging for bugs and enjoying the sunshine. Not catering to your stupid wish to have "cute" instagram pics. I'm fed up with things like this. STOP IT!! My five hen girls, Shelley, Willow, Laurel, Hazel and Holly would hate this.
I agree %1000! Looking at the pictures made me feel uncomfortable.
Really??? Uncomfortable? I can speak for my chickens and tell you that they are way more spoiled and happy than probably most chickens on the planet.
I get your point Eunice, I really do but cupcake holders and netting are both really cheap.
Agree. Don't get me started on the amount of questions of buying single ducks from me to put in diapers because it is a insta-attention-thing now.. well was; saw the first one I denied; since ducks are not happy alone in diapers in your home; bought elsewhere and put on craiglist again because after 8 weeks their cuteness fades and aren't insta-worthy. The women had the audacity to say "we are done with her now; she is ready for her forever home; 25 dollars". =/ Welp okay. I put my ducks some harmless outfits on for fun now and then; but they are living with duck-peers chacing bugs and swimming in mud and whatnot. Ducks/chicken in diapers in your home; is keeping a prisoner.
I happen to agree with you about the house chickens and ducks and diapers and all that.... but tutus are a completely different thing. I actually think my ducks LIKE wearing them! Always outside though and they have other duck friends...some who wear tutus and some who wear bow ties. duck-in-tu...099214.png
Eh. They'll be fine. It's not like they'll be wearing them forever. 5 minutes for pictures and over. No harm done.
Honestly my chickens would love it. My siblings play with them all of the time and they just love attention. We have 14 hens, one roo (okay he would hate it), and 7 chicks. My sister put Barbie headphones, sunglasses, and a riding helmet on three chickens and they rocked their new accessories. They were perfectly happy. Basically my point is some chickens might be different than yours so don't jump to conclusions that people are torturing their chickens because it all depends on the personality. And also, if they hated it, it would be very hard to get pictures of them standing perfectly still, huh?
I know some of these people.... and some of these are actually my photos and I can tell you that my chickens actually seem to enjoy them!
Also, I can tell you from personal experience that they can dig for bugs and enjoy the sunshine... even in tutus.
Well I can speak for my chickens... they only wear them when they're on TV. They're "special occasion" tutus. Lisa Fresh Eggs Daily
Are you vegan by any chance? Or are you one of those idiots that write this comment and get their steak after?
Are YOU vegan? I doubt it...
I have (in most cases) something against putting animals in cloths etc. They cannot speak and i doubt if the mayority of the pets even like it wearing them. Just put cloths on yourself but leave your animals alone (except when the clothes have a more meaningfull purpose than just 'looking cute').
I agree with you 100%. If you look at the expressions on many of these chick's faces you can totally tell that the tutus ruffled some feathers. I will only put a sweater or coat on my Whippet during the winter because she gets cold going out in the MN weather. I refuse to dress them in costumes or anything else.
LOL~ I honestly don't think chickens can have facial expression. I think they are adorable, but their faces Really can't change. And I really don't believe that they were bothered one bit by having a tutu put on them~ they appear quite comfortable, actually.
I used to think the same, and so did a friend of mine who owns a dog. But, as you point out "except when the clothes have a more meaningful purpose", she saw her dog suffering the cold in winter days, so she decided to try it out and buy some clothes for her pet. The puppy looked happy, no complaints and all... So, it really depends in the end. But mainly yes, I agree with you.
What's the purpose of a tutu or cupcake liners on a chicken thou?
I believe you completely agree with her, because the clothes your friend bought did have a meaningful purpose.
Thank you!
So so sweet. Can we not hate and just appreciate these adorable little animals. I grew up on a farm so I know these animals wouldn't mind this that much!
My chickens actually seem to enjoy watching themselves in the mirror when they are wearing their tutus.

You can't really know that they don't though and if animals were meant to wear clothes then they wouldn't have fur and feathers.
You can't know either.
No, it's really not adorable..I don't understand why people put clothes on animals..like pyjamas or a swimsuit on a dog..why? wtf is wrong with you people??
Ok I'm going to get downvoted but... what's the big deal? It's for a few minutes for photos and done. They are fine and they look adorable. So what?
For a personal pet that sees their human as family, not a problem for photo shoots. And a great idea for costume contests in 4-H Poultry shows, especially the little kids. It's fun!
Hate to break it to you, Ilona, but animals have a sense of time. They are fine. Why is everyone so dramatic?
Belinda: why is it too long? They aren't hurt, harmed, or impaired. Did they love it? Probably not. But that's OK.
I Agree With YOU. It's probably about an hour, If that, and the cute little tutus are not confining as All Costume Designers made certain that the Chickies (MY "Pet Name" for them because of my Love for the 5 I cared for for several months.) wings were free to move, etc. They were clearly comfortable and not distressed. I actually think they may even like it, and Feel Pretty!
If these people want to worry about animals, I can tell you there is REAL animal abuse going on in the world... and chickens in tutus is NOT it.
Just for a moment? Animals have no sense for time. They feel uncomfortable for here and now and there is no "it will just be for a moment". The pics are cute for sure - for humans. Not for the chicken.
Even a few minutes is too long, but this will have taken much longer.
It doesn't look cute it looks real stupid, there's your what.

You condone animal abuse then?
Actually, there are a few animals who need coats. Greyhounds will try to climb in your coat with you in temperatures of 47 degrees or less. I had two rescues and made them very dignified coats. Also there are a variety of hairless cats and dogs and baby goats need "rompers" until they enough body fat on them to keep them warm naturally. I thought the chicken pictures were cute. I'm pretty sure they're not left in the tutus longer than it takes to snap a picture or else the condition of the tutu would show it.
This comment has been deleted.
I'm going to be downvoted for saying this but everybody needs to calm down. A few minutes in a tutu isn't going to hurt a chicken. Might it be uncomfortable? Yes. But jeez, it's fine. Let's just let them look cute for a second and then go back to being chickens
Thank you! No downvotes yet....

Let them look cute for a second? Are you saying they are not cute? Cause they don't need the tomfoolery to look cute, they already are without the help of the added nonsense.
Oh, they're cute. But they're cute like this too. And they aren't hurt, they aren't in any way harmed. Let it be.
My chickens will never be put in all that dumb foolishness. Thank goodness they are mine and not some bored buffoon Lol
I never thought I needed this in my life until today
Oh god, so many people on this thread crying like little fucking babies. It's absolutely ridiculous how much people cry on the internet. Log off of the internet and go find your safe space corner to cry and pout in.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates this practice. Please stop putting things like this on here as you will make other people do similar things. Animals are not here for our entertainment. They have their own lives and don't work in the same way as us (thank god).
This lets everyone know just how cute chickens can be. They are cute without the tutus but then no one would look.
I just have to say, THANK YOU Bored Panda for not being like Buzzfeed. I used to enjoy browsing their site once upon a time for the cute stories like this, and then it became all about politics, SJWs and all that lovely crap.
Sassy ladies!
Animals are not dolls !! 😠
Hmmmm ponders the abuse convo, a moment to choose ....TuTu for few minutes.....OR choppng their heads off and having them for dinner. Eh I'll go wth a TuTu & eggs for breakfast.
Tutus for the win!
I think they look so cute as long as you don’t keep them in there for more then a few minutes is we no problem. Just wouldn’t do it too much.
I don't really understand why so many negative comments. Regardless if you find the pics cute or not, they are beautiful pics and the hens/chicks don't seem in any type of suffering. If anything, those pics draw the attention to this bird, that way too often is cruelly treated, disrespected and considered downright stupid.
Jeeez. This is totally, completely ridiculous. And I love it!
And I love you for loving it.
*looking at the photos and thinking* where can I get a chicken so i can do this??
This is terribly stupid. Please don't do that
I despise Any sort of animal cruelty, but I don't think THIS qualifies as abuse of any kind. If an animal is Not restrained or tied to a post~ if they're free to run off and hide, as scared or tormented pets will do, then clearly they're fine with the situation. If I get the Slightest feelings that a Poor, Sweet, Innocent, Defenseless Animal is being taken advantage of I become SO angered that I could just scream~ And Cry! But in this instance, I just smiled & even giggled several times. Knowing Chickies like I do, I think everyone can feel good about viewing these Adorable Pictures Of Chickens In Festive Tutus!
I must say, these photos are whimsical and fun, and I'm sure the chickens are not expected to start showing up at the table for meals dressed in a tutu. It's for a few minutes. Personally, I think there's plenty of real situations to get so upset about. Like animals used in scientific experiments.
I can only speak for my photos in this article, but my chickens were appearing on TV in California to try and encourage backyard chicken keeping and show how friendly chickens are.....
Tbh chickens, hens.. These live creatures aren't stuffed animal toys. i'd say if anyone wants something cutesie and funny then go buy a lifesize stuffed animal you can play dress-up with. Sometimes we humans are so pea-brained, even a pea has some intellect to be a pea. I have no words tbh. We've all gone kinda cuckoo.
This looks more like a SERVING SUGGESTION... like the frilly paper ends on a lamb crown roast.
You have a weird taste.
The documentary goes: Ah the fabulous chicken n chicks. Natives of the Land of Fab and Glam. You can just hear them say: Darling hold my cats, time to shine.
Poor chickens, idiot humans
THey Do NOT LOOK HAPPY
Ohhhh! Tell us how a "happy chicken" looks.
Chickens never look happy. They mostly have resting bitch faces, which you would know if you raised them. My chickens actually seem to enjoy their tutus.
I love this!
let dance chicktango
I would do this but only for 10 minutes and then I would leave them alone to go play
"Chickens Walk The Runway in Milan"
They look p*ssed, and if I were a chicken I'd be too.
So let them have room to dance (without tutus)!!
People are weird....
They look more pissed off and uncomfortable in most of the pictures.
They are FINE. And how can you tell that they're pissed?
Dilly: have you? They aren't hurt. They are fine. They may be stressed for a few minutes. Ok. What's the big deal?
How can you tell they are fine? Have you measured their stress levels?
what the fucking animal cruelty
How so? It doesn't hurt them, it doesn't do damage. I'd be curious to hear how this is cruelty.
"Bullying"??. Sure, they probably didn't want it, but lets be real, they probably don't care that much. And it's ok to do things your animals don't love once in a while.
Why are you discussing? You try to explain your cruelty and stupidity? - whether these animals wanted to be dressed in all these things, I suspect they were terrified, I do not understand why boredpanda promotes bullying of animals
Some of these are my photos. Trust me, the chickens were hardly terrified. They were actually wandering around a TV studio munching on mealworms all the while.
animal cruelty, period. once agin humn species rtrying to make a buck on the slavery of the most innocent!
Ridiculous!!!
Cheery photos as long as these innocent living beings do NOT wind up in the stewpot!
Take this down. Do not bring stupid people in temptation to try and harm animals theirselves. Not cool, bored panda, not cool
Except this doesn't harm them. So there's that.
They don't look lovely and please don't let this be a thing.
Sorry but chickens in tutus is already a "thing". And mine happen to actually seem to enjoy it.
I don't know about all this, made me feel uncomfortable. I have a house chicken (she likes to roam inside) and 2 ducks and I wouldn't put them in clothes. I don't mind puppies and whatnot but not chickens.
You know what? House chickens make ME uncomfortable. They spread salmonella, e coli, there's nothing for a chicken to DO inside except poop in their diaper. Now a chicken outside in a tutu can still chase butterflies, look for worms and enjoy the sunshine.

Why does boredpanda support animal abuse?
Eh, you know... animal abuse could be way worse, but I get your point... BoredPanda has been bashing veganism about as much as anti-vaxxers, to the point where it seems they put them on the same level (which would be very idiotic).
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
So you think it's clever to post photos of animal abuse? You're condoning someone forcing an animal to wear something which in many pics just looks like a muffin case. I'm sure they just allowed that idiot to dress them up wihtout getting at all stressed. Really? More stupidpanda than boredpanda

Take this disgusting bullshit down you arseholes. This is animal abuse. Things are bad enough with the meat and dairy industries without some dip-shit human pond life narcissistic twat stressing these poor creatures out. They are not dolls they are not play things. I wonder what the people from PETA will make of this. You deserve a slap in your stupid ignorant face. Have and show some respect and ffs grow up.

So you think it's clever to post photos of animal abuse? You're condoning someone forcing an animal to wear something which in many pics just looks like a muffin case. I'm sure they just allowed that idiot to dress them up wihtout getting at all stressed. Really? More stupidpanda than boredpanda

This is animal cruelty. Please remove these pictures before other people think this is a good idea.
It's not cruelty. It doesn't hurt them, it doesn't impair them. Please explain how this is cruelty.
