After Being Rejected By Its Own Mother, Baby Panther Is Raised By A Woman And A Rottweiler
355Kviews
Luna is an adorable panther that was born in a zoo in Siberia. For some unknown reason, her mother completely rejected her and refused to give her much-needed milk and care. Luna’s chances for surviving were slim, but thankfully, an amazing woman came to the rescue. The woman had experience with raising big cats and decided to help Luna survive by taking care of her and feeding her a diet filled with vitamins that she desperately needed.
Soon, the woman grew attached to Luna and decided to buy her from the zoo—but only because she knew that she could give Luna the life she deserves and needs. Soon, Luna became part of the family. She met the woman’s dog named Venza. After a long process of introducing them and making sure they get along, a beautiful friendship bloomed. They are inseparable, always together: playing, running, and exploring the world around them. They are best friends and look absolutely adorable together!

Lovely photos, but this is not okay. Even if the owner is experienced with big cats, exotic pets are a bad idea. This is not a domesticated animal, it should not be in a house, or a car, or used for pretty photos. It should have been rehabilitated for release in its natural habitat, or if this was not possible, a nature reserve, or big-cat sanctuary. Buying an exotic animal to keep it as a pet is not saving it, it's selfish, and even if the woman is well-meaning, it's dangerous, and possibly cruel, if she isn't as expert in caring for big cats as she claims.
I have to agree with you. Although Luna is beautiful, keeping a wild animal as a pet is never a good idea, because you can never fully domesticate them. I feel sorry for Luna.
She is also a baby panther that was abandoned so she took care of the panther.😢
I u guys are right but who would not take care of luna.
You need to watch the videos, Luna really does have the best life. To part her from her humans would be very cruel, they are her family.
Unfortunately, without its mother to teach it survival skills like hunting, it would have died of hunger in the wild. This was probably its best option.
Naw. In the wild -yes. But there are plenty of rehabilitation-centers for cats, for example in African countries, and it works. Hunting is instinct for cats, and the rest is just training. If you give the animal enough time to train its skills, it can be rehabilitated into the wild. The problem is that she now 'tamed' the panther and it will always consider humans to be at least interesting, if not 'friends'. For a big cat, that is dangerous! So... woman messed up. But hey, doesn't cat and dog and woman look sooo amazing together? *rolls eyes*
this panther is born in a zoo. She just bought it from a zoo...read the story.
What about a wildlife sanctuary, Harry Potter?
Exactly, Luna wont stay small and cute for long. Soon she will be twice Venzas size and playing with her will become dangerous, through no fault of her own. Someone WILL get hurt and if something happens to the woman??? Then were will Luna and Venza be??? Please place Luna in suitable care and just give your energy to your adorable Rottie... :)
exactly. even if luna is such a beautiful animal, a panther is not domesticated. it's better for the wild animal to return to the wild, or let it be taken care of in a facility where people have expertise in caring for panthers like luna. if luna snaps one day, it could lead to death of not only the owner but of many people too. and right, it's dangerous and selfish for the woman to buy a baby panther, and it isn't saving even if she means well.
Theres website that seek these cats....if I was to have one as a pet id just keep them outside on there own, if they wanna run somewhere they can and if they want to come to the house they can....kinda like Grizzly Adams, had the pet bear who stayed outside and came around from time to time. ....now the new trend of 2021 from what i here is pet bats 😂
There’s always one. The poor animal wasnt raised in the wild, she wouldn’t cope. Look at the life she’s living now opposed to being stuck in a cage. Boo to you and your comment.
The cat is being cared for and will end up in a sanctuary from what I'm reading. So your comments are unnecessary and she isn't keeping it as a pet.
Did you miss the part where it said the lady BOUGHT the cub from the zoo. That likely means the mother, who abandoned the cub, was in a zoo too. "Zoos" selling big cat cubs is actually big business and not in any way rescue, or rehabilitation or sanctuary facilities.
Luna was abandoned by it's mother and the zoo rescued her. How could that be if she was born in the zoo??
Well, I learned from original article that first that "moving zoo" asked her to take care of Luna temporary. Later they were going to sell it to some "bad owners" (mb the same zoo on wheels), but girl manage to buy it herself. Bad detail: Luna and family are living in apartments and trying crowdfunding on YouTube and Instagram for buying a house.
No, comments aren't "unnecessary". That is a BIG CAT, and it will never be a housecat or a dog. Remember Sigfried and Roy? those tigers had been living with them throughout their lives and still one of them nearly killed ... uh, I think Sifried? One of them, anyway. This is one of the STUPIDEST pet-ideas ever.
There are big dogs that sometimes go haywire and harm or kill owners. Same is true of all kinds of animals. To each their own. I'm sure she knows the risks. Chill out and live your life and let others live theirs...

I fully agree. Unfortunately, in Russia it is legal to keep exotic animals as pets.
I'd agree on a general scale, but here : 1) maybe this woman is actually an expert and knows perfectly what she does, it is not well-explained in the article but I assume the zoo wouldn't have allowed her to adopt the panther if she couldn't prove her competence to do so ; 2) this panther (I mean as an individual) is not a wild animal and will never be. She had barely any contact with her own mother and was never given any occasion to mimic and learn the normal behaviour of a panther in its natural environment, she must not even be aware that she is one. She might be dangerous though, if she doesn't learn to measure her physical strength while playing for example - but she will learn, just like the rottweiler she lives with. You don't save an animal's life for the sake of what its species is supposed to be, "wildlife" or whatsoever, you do it for the sake of one individual who deserves to live in good conditions even if this will never be a "natural" life.
(2) alongside humans for thousands of years. Last I read it was at LEAST 4.000 that they've been companions to humans. Dogs know human body-language better than their own and puppies tend to be drawn to humans more than to other dogs. They are the definition of "domesticated", they are literally made to live with us. You can't compare the rotti to the panther, you just can't. You'd be paying disservice to both and misunderstand the nature of their beings. What if kitten kills the dog or attacks the woman? What do you think will happen to kitten?
This is still a panther (leopard, I assume). It will never be anything BUT a wild animal. Don't kid yourself - even if you do everything for them and they might sort of care for you, it will never be anything but a wild animal. Same with, for example, wolves. Or hyenas. Nobody would think about keeping a hyena, right? And we all know wolves are terrible pets! And hunting and killing doesn't need mimicking. it's INSTINCT. I'm appalled at your lack of understanding, and that's why posts like these are so dangerous. No, NO, you can't "teach them" to keep her physical strength measured. It's a LEOPARD! If it gets angry enough (or god beware, hormonal - leopards are purely solitary animals!) it could easily kill the dog. And the woman, but it would be her own fault so I have more compassion for the poor dog. And no no no no. A "good life" for a leopard is not in a house with a dog and a woman! they are HUNTERS! Not pets. Oh, and one thing: dogs have evolved from wolf-like animals (cont)
I agree.
I can agree with you in a vacuum. I’m pretty sure the options for saving this cat for release into the wild wasn’t an option. It looks like it’s got a great environment. Is it as perfect as you would do? Lol. As far as pictures go, more power to the owner. It’s crazy how nuts people get these days. Absolutely nuts.
There’s always one. The poor animal was t raised in the wild, she wouldn’t cope. Look at the life she’s living now opposed to being stuck in a cage. Boo to you and your comment.
Just saying, but she did the right thing. if the zoo let her buy the panther, AND the mother panther did not care, then it deserved a better home. She provided a safe home when others did not care. You are wrong, FYI
Luna was abandoned very young so she has never experienced anything but her life with a human. The cruelty would be releasing her into the wild with her trusting background.
Are you saying you would have rathered that Luna died!?
First, the alternative for Luna was death. Vika just saved her. Second - it is enough to watch their YT channel to find out that it is not an unhappy animal. He is not still in one place, not in a cage or on a paddock. He runs in Siberian forests, climbs trees and rocks, and stays in a country house most of the year. Her bond with Venza is absolutely unique. I am also of the opinion that wild animals should live in a natural environment, but Luna was not born as a fully wild animal. The alternative for her, if her mother had not rejected her, could only be the zoo. This would DEFINITELY not be a better place for her. Third - you can make various considerations, and in the end you have to face harsh reality anyway. In this case, the Russian reality. Vika did what she could do for Luna the best in this reality. And we should be happy about it. Just.
You are spot on! I think this is selfish & cruel to keep her, after all this is not meant to be a pet. I am sorry for Luna….
You are absolutely spot on!
I believe there are far too many know-it-alls that should mind their own business. How dare you? Put a coal to your mouth and stop showing your foolishness.
She had long-term health problems and no survival skills. Her now Mom is a locally renowned big cat rehabbed. https://siberiantimes.com/other/others/features/stunning-visuals-of-a-black-panther-playing-in-the-snowy-woods-of-siberia-shared-by-owner/ So KAREN, PLEASE STFU.
You understand Luna is, at the least 4 months, most likely older, right? She's probably not equipped to be around animals of her kind or other animals at all. It's not like the lady took her from the zoo. No one else could take care of her. Besides, stuff like rehabilitation centers or whatever you're talking about, most of them probably can't take car of Luna because they're filled to the brim with other animals. Stuff like this doesn't just happen, you know? No offense, but I'm going to have to disagree.
Yeah, big cat sanctuary...the next Tiger King maybe? /s In a perfect world this cat wouldn't have needed a home, but it does, and it got it. One with food, care , love and a best buddy. So why be a killjoy?
Because it's a fricking LEOPARD! It is not and will never be a pet. Also: leopards are purely solitary. They don't like other leopards aside from the one time in the year where they mate and female leopards for the time it takes to get rid of the offsprings again. The "best buddy" could turn into either a meal, a competitor or a mate, and neither of that will be good for the poor dog! Seriously, people... go read a book or something and learn what you are talking about. It's a leopard - not a house-cat. And it will be big and strong and to 'keep it', that woman would need to keep kitty on a leash (a chain...) to keep everyone safe. That's not a 'good life' for a sleek predator - that's just sad.
Chill out. Live and let live. Sheseh...some people think they know what's best for EVERYONE
Hear hear!
Ok boomer
Maybe she'll take care till Luna is fully adult and then release her into wild? Releasing into wild isn't safe for the big cat for it never has lived in wild habitat before. But instincts should work out. It's a mixed feeling actually :(
Yes, and... It’s in SIBERIA. I do not believe there are NATURAL panther habitats in Siberia... 🤷🏽♀️
You will be surprised) they are - in south part of Siberia near China's borders. It's Leopardus pardus's natural territory
Amur Leopards live there. Look it up.

100% right. She should have let Luna die, as nature intended. Wait. That sounds kinda stupid... Hum...
Wow, I pity the fool who would ever break into that lady’s home! What a beautiful animal Luna is.
Oh my god, imagine that... *glass shattering, robber jumps in and sees the cat* “oh no.... OH NO”
*Sees and hears the dog, but doesn't see the cat lurking in the shadows...until it's too late.
*glass shatters* *robber climbs in* *robber sees dog* aww what a cutie! *Luna comes out from shadows* awww s**t! *runs for life*
Yeah, even just the rottweiler is scary enough.
As beautiful and loved as Luna is, this is sad. Wild animals should be able to be wild. The mother was probably stressed as I imagine no zoo which actually cared for the animals would sell one to an individual. Imo animals should go back to being free or in sanctuaries which prioritize them. Her heart is in the right place and this may have been the best possible outcome for Luna considering what options she really had. It’s just sad this is how it is.
The cat belongs in a good sanctuary or AZA zoo (to educate people that they aren't pets and shouldn't be treated as such)
F**k off this animal is fine. You f*****g liberals realize this animal is free as u are.
apparently luna's mother was in a travelling zoo, which shouldn't even be a thing anymore, but explains why luna was able to be sold to an individual
You right, somnomania, there shouldn't be any traveling zoos or bad zoos, or at least they should be strictly regulated. Unfortunately for animals, our planet..... and us, there are innumerable occurrences in the world of what human species should never do.
The mother rejected the cat.
Oh wait I just understood what you were saying, sorry
