At this point, I pass the relay to this summary of the first half of 2020 made by someone who made everyone a public service and laid it all out. And if simply scrolling through it, will feel like an eternal torture, it’s because it is. ‘Cause no need to lie, it’s been rough. This summary is part of the “But I Got the Van” meme that stems from a quote uttered by Luis in the 2015 Marvel superhero film Ant-Man. Initially, the meme is thought to have first originated 4 months ago with a multi-panel image macro comprised of screenshots of Luis reciting the dialogue.
According to Know Your Meme, this image has been used in a series of jokes about optimism in the face of intense adversity.
From what we’ve seen so far, this year has been particularly rich in the comedy department. With so many memes, jokes, and puns surfing around the internet, 2020 has been hosting a tragi(comedy) club in its own right.

In the middle of a pandemic when many businesses were barely hanging on, rioters damaged 5000 buildings in my home town of Mpls, putting more people of work, leaving people without close access to necessities, causing small businesses to lose 10s or 100s of thousands of dollars, and the tanks explosions and bullet noises plus being trapped at home due to fires burning out of control traumatized many of the refugees we have here. And now we get to pay for all the damage rather than paying into unemployment for the people already out of work due to the pandemic. So, there's that. I also don't blame BLM. One of the biggest culprits was a guy from Illionois who came to riot, burned buildings, and handed out molatov cocktails. The right wing didn't just blame BLM, some of them sent people in to set BLM up to look bad.

It's anxiety inducing to see it this way, especially for our youth who don't have much historical knowledge. We're gonna be fine. Serbia survived 32 days straight bombing by the Clinton administration. Europe survived WWII. Earth survived the Spanish flu. We survived the Irish potato famine. We got thru the Great Depression. AIDS hasn't wiped us out. The end of the world has come and gone many times. We survived Y2K. We survive massive earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes and tsunami's. We survived Ghengis Khan. Comets have narrowly missed us so many times, many times we had no idea. The hole in the ozone layer is healing. We survived SARS, MERS, Ebole, etc, etc. We're gonna be fine. It just seems bad because we can read about all current events in one spot now so it seems even worse.

Someone who is really pessimistic would say that we're overdue for a comet or asteroid to hit us and cause an extinction-level event, just as an example.
