Incredible Finger Drawings by Judith Braun

As strange as it sounds, New York-based artist Judith Braun creates all these wonderful landscapes and abstract patterns using nothing but her fingers dipped in charcoal dust. Braun says that she often uses her both hands simultaneously to the extent of arms’ reach as this allows the inherent symmetry of the body to generate a gestural vocabulary of mark making.

“Abstraction keeps the images free to be anything, while the symmetry resolves that fluidity into something, like liquid energy crystallizing. The crystal metaphor is also reflected in the carbon medium of graphite that, under heat and pressure, becomes a diamond. Working within constraints prompts a proliferation of possibilities that self organize into groups and subgroups, from which I then choose some to render carefully by hand…with diamond dust.”

she actually tried, but was sorely missunderstood. I have no idea if it was due to the fact that she was the oldest member of the cast, or if those jerks were expecting those artists to make magic in the amount of time they were giving them. I understand they had togive them challenges, but art is not an automatic result, it takes time, patience and love besides just talent and skill. I am really happy they have published this article and glad to see she’s doing her own thing, the way she should.

Absolutely amazing :) I love when people step outside of the box and use new things as medium for art, or use existing ones in new ways.
