Woman Refuses To Sit Next To A Crying Baby On Plane, Gets Instant Karma
Karma is a fickle lady and sometimes she strikes almost instantly. This is what US government employee Susan Peirez had to learn the hard way when she was put on work leave recently for berating a Delta flight attendant.
The incident was caught on camera by Marissa Rundell, a 19-year-old mother from Rochester New York and the other victim of Peirez’s rant. On a flight from JFK Airport to Hancock Airport, the former program director for the former NY State Council on the Arts began to complain loudly about Rundell’s crying son. “She came to the back and slammed her bags down. She said ‘this is f—– ridiculous. It’s bulls— having to sit in the back of the plane,'” Rundell told the Daily Mail. The young mom asked that Peirez not continue to cuss around her son and was allegedly met with the response, “shut the f— up and shove it.” Rundell then proceeded to film the encounter on her phone.
When a flight attendant, self- identified as Tabitha, tried to get involved, the government worker redirected her anger towards her. “You may not have a job tomorrow,” Peirez snapped at the flight attendant in the footage. Additional staff was then called to escort her off the plane.
After the footage went viral, with close to 2 million views on Facebook, Peirez was put on work leave with an official statement released by the Director of Public Information Ronni Reich, “State employees are and must be held to the highest standard both professionally and personally. We were notified of this situation and have commenced an investigation. This employee has been removed from the office and placed on leave until further notice and until the inquiry is resolved.”
As for Rundell, she told CBS News she doesn’t regret her decision to share the video, but that she does regret that it has affected Peirez’s job.

The woman demanded being seated elsewhere, while shouting at Rundell and her son because the baby wouldn’t stop crying
And then another woman filmed the whole thing
The video later went viral, with more than 2 million people sharing it on Facebook
The woman which was escorted off the plane for her behavior was later identified as government worker Susan Peirez
She has since been put on work leave

Share on FacebookBabies are extremely annoying on flights, I know because I have one, she's almost 3 now and still a challenge to fly with although mostly well behaved. It can't be helped though. I do sometimes find myself apologizing to the people around me in advance, just in case of any noise or unruly behavior. Most are understanding, some are d***s about it. One thing that is worse, parents with older children, the age of my daughter and upwards, who allow kids to kick the seat in front and generally cause nuisance.
You do this because you're a decent person, and a good parent. I've been on flights where the parents ignored their crying baby, once so much the stewardesses became involved. The woman in the article should have booked business class, where there are no babies.
Load More Replies...I don't actually hear any noise from the baby in the video.
Load More Replies...The woman overreacted terribly and is a jerk, and the woman with her kid might have had an unavoidable reason to be taking a flight with a baby, but if so she might should have bought both seats. I am a parent of 4 children and I have never once in my life thought is was anyone else's job to tolerate my kids. I have left restaurants after paying for meals I didn't get to enjoy and walked out of movies after paying for them because my kids starting crying, screaming, or acting in a way that would bother others. Don't be a d**k and yell at a baby, but also don't bring a crying baby around strangers that have paid their money for a thing.
Can we please so kindly stop filming strangers or at least blur there faces,.. It's for a reason that filming/photographing strangers and blasting them on the internet is starting to become illegal in some country's and you can get a fine for that. That said, yeah she shouldn't have reacted the way she did. Yes a crying baby is annoying, that's what most of them do, but screaming wont make it any beter
Tell me about it! I'm so sick of the OMG let's film them generation it's annoying. Videos like that usually thrown out of court because they're hearsay. You don't get the whole story by just a snip bit of a video.
Load More Replies...So the woman's behavior was ridiculous, but in all seriousness, we are turning into our own big brother. We are taking away each other's privacy by taking photos and videos and putting them all over social media. The woman got kicked off the plane for her behavior. That should have been the end of it.
I never thought of it that way. BRB going to read 1984 now...
Load More Replies...I'm not a fan of babies and luckily I've never been stuck on a plane with ones that have cried the whole time BUT I also would politely ask to be moved (if it was a non stop thing and the crying didn't stop) and if they don't have a place for me I'd probably just put my headphones on and loudly listen to something else and block it out... yelling IS NOT the answer and being rude is NEVER the answer why are people sooooooo self centered and entitled lately
If all people only reacted like you would. Entitlement is surely the problem in today’s world!
Load More Replies...I had my 2 year old granddaughter with me on a flight from Tampa to Chicago and she cried and cried. I tried everything to quiet her, bottle, pacifier, cookie, etc. Finally the lady next to me offered her some red licorice and it worked. So anybody with a baby who is crying doesn’t bother me in the least. Please sit next to me. I truly understand.
I always try and help mums and dads with crying babies, theyre usually exhausted and appreciate you interacting with the child to distract them. usually it works too, having an unfamiliar face doing funny faces at child stops em crying at least for a while
Load More Replies...Do parents really worry about swear words around an 8 month old? I can understand not wanting someone in a foul mood mouthing off as the baby will pick up on the aggressive and upsetting noises. But the words? I'm careful around kids that can talk or are near to it but 8 months? At least babies aren't doing it to be deliberately annoying - like everyone else who's learned to walk and talk.
You'd be amazed at what kids pick up, but 8 months is a little early. I know a couple of people who made a point of not swearing around their babies because they wanted to break their swearing habits before the kids learned to talk.
Load More Replies...Lord knows, I'm an a*****e in public two or three times a year and deserving of a viral video. Yet crying babies get a pass from me. I reason that the babies cry and it's not fun for the parents, either.
Not fun for the parents, agreed. Just one small point - they did choose to have the baby. Some people don't and they're probably the ones getting in a strop when they cry. So they're unlikely to have sympathy for the parents. I give the babies a pass as babies aren't doing it to be annoying. Adults though...
Load More Replies...The woman could have just been nice and played the situation to her favor. She could ask nicely to be upgraded because she has a headache and just played the woe is me card and been bumped to first class. Instead we witness what being rude can get you. I always ask to be moved if kids are behind me and it always works because I’m super nice about it even though I’m stressed and unreasonably pissed off inside lol. Or... kid making too much noise? *bing* Cue the flight attendant and whisper to them about how the kid is being disruptive and can the parent please make the kid sit down and lower their voice? No point in being rude when you can play victim and be passive aggressive lol. It’s b****y but it’s super effective and nobody loses their job.
A..she can't ask for an upgrade if her trip was paid for by the government..it equates abuse of power to get an advantage and B..I wouldn't have given it to her anyway as rude as she was being.
Load More Replies...I completely feel her pain. I once was stuck next to a crying toddler for an 8 hour flight. The child cried almost the entire flight and at one point slapped me even. Her mom thought it was funny and proceeded to cuss me out when we exited the plan because I accidently hit her shoe with my bag. Ever since then I specifically ask not to be sat near children under 5. It's nothing personal, but I would rather have a somewhat relaxing flight considering the price and having to be crushed in there like a sardine. A crying baby slowly eats at your soul. The woman however was rude to the flight attendant and that was uncalled for. She could have just asked to be moved in a nice way.
She sounds like the person that will deny that she might have been a screaming baby herself. Children cry. It's natural. If you can't handle that, you aren't ready for the outside world yet.
holy hell, what world are some people living in? people procreate, it's a fact of life. you can't step out of the world once you have a child. a child is childish, that's the reality. it's just sad when the adult is childish and thinks the world revolves around them. babies exist, grow the f**k up and accept it. in many countries mothers and families are supported and respected, they choose to help the mother and realise kids are just people in the early stages of life, not another f*****g species. nobody came out a fully grown adult who could communicate perfectly without crying. it's only in our spoiled "me me me" society that we consider kids some sort of outlier nuisance rather than just younger people, thats why we throw elderly people in homes once they become a "burden" so we can continue being selfish f***s. any public transport including flying means you have to share public spaces.
This is exactly why airlines should be required to have kid sections and group all the parents with children together; alert passengers on smaller planes that babies (and animals) will be on board; and offer the opportunity not to have to sit near them. While that person's behavior was deplorable, I don't want to sit near screeching kids (or any children) on planes either.
I don't like when a baby is crying. I had that experience few times. What I do is approach to the mother and ask if she needs help. Sometimes the mothers are so desperate in trying to keep the child down and don't know what to do. If the baby is crying is because or is hungry or need change or didn't sleep well or is sick. There are solutions only to find the cause ASAP.
The thing that REALLY p*sses me off is the “U may not have a job tomorrow” comment! I hate when people flaunt their supposed “power”! Most times, these situations are so easily remedied … if available, they simply change seats. If the plane is full, they offer another flight. Sometimes, they even have other passengers volunteer to switch seats. But, to start cussing and throwing your weight around … RIDICULOUS!
If you ask me, babies are fine, they eventually calm down. Try sitting next to a drunk person...who Then baths on you....OR some smelly a*s who farts the WHOLE trip.... OR 2 cows who talk LITERALLY for the entire 3 hour flight so I cannot get a wink of sleep. Baby on board? Yes please!
yup, i've dealt with all of those who make the baby seem like the better option. once sat in front of an entire group of german drunks, they would not stop clapping and laughing, nobody dared even frown at this arseholes but were quite happy to give the young mother with a two year old death stares
Load More Replies...Okay, yes she is rude, but even I've had a baby on a flight, and I did that thing where you offer an apology to the oither passengers in case the baby cries, and have moved away from the cabin when he did. Cosideration for other people is still a thing on a sky bus. Oh, and why is her name here, and why did someone opt to contact her work for this...oh wait, someone DOXXED them! That is illegal as hell, whoever did that, and threatened her liveihood over rudeness on a sky bus, is disgusting.
The video went viral, my guess is that someone from her job saw the video.
Load More Replies...People are insensitive at times! I can understand, I was into similar situation when flying with my 2.5 years old daughter in an indigo flight from New Delhi to Ahmedabad. Babies do become cranky and stressed out in flights and parents no matter how hard they try are unable to comfort the baby. The duration of my flightvwas 1.5 hours and lady sitting behind us was yelling through entire flight and I was surprised when an airhostess joined her! It was really very disappointing experience.
What about tolerance for those having to put up with parents who cannot control their kids' behaviour - no matter what the reason. I, too, try to avoid flying near children, and dread it if I am seated next to, or near them. Parents really should understand that kids do not rule the world and they should not be allowed to invade the space or peace of others. Taught this, early on, it will carry them through life. I would have asked the mother of the crying child to leave the plane, not the woman. Why should the rest of us suffer?
I agree that babies are difficult to sit near on airplanes. However I also know that sometimes it can't be helped, airplanes are scary for many people including babies and adults, and headphones are a blessing in such situations. No reason to be hateful and rude. Last time I was sat between a toddler and a baby who kept sympathy crying and I just turned my headphones up and listened to music while reading a book. It's not like they or their parents are causing the situation to spite me, it's just that they are human and share this world with me. Sheesh
I fly quite often and a crying baby sometimes feels like a must-have extra of every flight, as well as farting people, loud speakers and people with smelly sandwiches. It stresses me out, too, but you kinda have to get ready for that and embrace it. Get earplugs, get headphones, accept the discomfort for a while and know that it will end soon. Some parents are horrible but most of them must feel incredibly stressed out by the situation themselves because there is not much you can do and they know so many people will instantly feel so much hate for them and their little one. Unfortunatelly there are no flights only for parents, they have no other choice so even if annoyed, I'd be careful about being an a*s. This story is satisfactory, I love the flight attendant's reaction.
Do other people motice that most of these public shaming photos and videos seem to be of women. We know this isn’t because more women behave badly than men. So I’m thinking it’s for other reasons: because women are a softer target to film because people are less scared of being physically attacked by them, and because the public has an appetite for bullying women. It’s noticable that this thread has all the usual sexist themes about both female parties: appearance, motherhood, sexually degrading remarks.
This is exactly why they make Bose noise cancelling headphones, worth every penny if you have issues. I like to watch movies when I fly.
The baby wasn't even making a sound and she was making a scene over it. She must get a lot of crying babies with that behaviour. Even if the baby was crying she was acting the exact opposite to how someone should act that situation.
One of my earliest memories is some people on a plane smiling at me and giving me a piece of Juicy Fruit gum. I was 2, almost 3, and was flying with my family from Germany to the United States. I'm sure I wasn't an angel on the entire flight but the kindness of strangers gave me a lifelong memory. I'm almost 46 years old now.
I totally understand, when mom with her baby need to go somewhere, like visit the doctor, or visit parents etc... but when you sitting in plane, heading to some vacation... well.. i dont know, i dont think that is good for little baby for such long travel in plane just "for fun", and cant be able to silent the baby.
I don't have children but I would quite cheerful sit next to someone who had a baby, even if it was crying. These are tiny human beings who one day will be paying taxes for YOUR old age pension. Be nice to them. And when they reach the age where you can reason with them please teach them to behave themselves in public!! Sometimes all a baby needs is a stranger to hold them or rock them and it quiets them down. Frankly, I would much rather listen to a crying baby than loud rap music, people screaming at each other, cars and motorcycles that have no mufflers, lawn mowers, leaf blowers etc.
The flight was a little over an hour--she couldn't just deal with it? I've been on transatlantic flights with babies. It's not pleasant but people adjust.
My son was barely a year old when we flew him from the UK to Australia that's over 20 hours in the air between 2 flights, he barely made a fuss, we even had people approaching us to say "OMG, he's the most amazingly well behaved baby ever. What's your secret?" #goodgenes ;)
"As for Rundell, she told CBS News she doesn’t regret her decision to share the video, but that she does regret that it has affected Peirez’s job.". So you post this to shame this woman and it affects her. What did you think was going to happen? Yeah this woman was a douchebag here but I think what the mom did was equally evil. Imagine you at your absolute worst moments, and then imagine them going viral having you lose your job or whatever over it. Awful behaviour from both sides. The online pitchfork crowd is truly abysmal.
Full name..it wasn't the mother that made or posted the video...it was another passenger. If you watch the video, you can see the mother holding the child..not the camera.
Load More Replies...Babies are going to cry, and yes it can be annoying - but responsible parents will do what they can to avoid this. I have suffered crying babies on planes and on buses, but I felt for the moms. However, when parents allow their kids to run amok like wild beasts on angel dust, I have no respect for them. I agree that the government worker got what she asked for, harassing the mom. Just one more reason to drive instead!
When she was a baby she must have been perfect. (Sarcasm). If I ever get irked at the behaviour of a child, I just imagine what my mother would say to me about how obnoxious I was as a youngster. Nothing like a little shame from mom to humble me and put things into perspective. :)
My husband flies every week for work and I do my fair share of flying, too. No one is thrilled about crying babies - including their parents, btw - but that's how babies are designed. That cry is meant to summon adults. of COURSE we get irked by it. /// That said, babies cry. It's what they do. Most of the time they settle down once you're in the air. /// Truthfully the most annoying (and flat out dangerous) thing in airplanes and in restaurants is kids whose parents let them run amok when people are trying to work.
Ha, sorry for another...But the best part is the illusion of power..."Do you know who you are talking to? Do you know? I am the associate assistant administrator to the assistant to the associate director of the interim Administrator of Supplies, who is the Acting Supervisor of Bureau Office Administration, working under the Interim Manager of internal operations, who is the Temporary Director of Extraneous Activities. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO YOU ARE MESSING WITH!
Hmmmm...I look at Pierez's apparent facebook pic and I start screaming.
respect begets respect! that's what's missing nowadays. we seems to be so engrossed with ourselves we fail to take notice of other people around us, and when we do, we resent their presence! OMG, can we live by ourselves?
I hope she sues her employer and the woman responsible for filming her for wrongful termination
do you know why babys are most of the time anoying in plane, its because the difference of pressure and it can hurt a lot, thats why, they don0t understand whats happening with their body......
Kids, while they can be annoying little prats, it's more often down to lack of control from the parents, more to the point - the ones kicking the back of the seat, or screaming their heads off for not getting what they want, walking up to your place and just grabbing whatever is on the meal or your tray, and their parents blowing a fuse when you take back or hold on to your tablet etc. I don't mind kids walking about - nobody can expect them to sit still all the time, as they have the runs in the legs... As for babies? My tolerance level is equally high as it is low for the little shreeky prats and their parents who think their kids can do no wrong with hell and brimstone showering if you dare tell them. Infants don't deal well with noisy, unfamiliar environments, and especially not where the ears hurt due to the pressure change etc. They don't know any other way than being a wailing siren sometimes, but i can live with that - i just feel more sorry for the parents in that case.
I completely understand the woman. Crying babies on flights - or anywhere - are a real pain and a thorough nuisance, and parents invariably expect others to put up with it, and not understand how invasive it can be. Personally I think there should be an age-restriction for flight-travel instigated, but I realise that's unlikely to happen. What I cannot understand is her attitude when she was re-seated, even though she did apologise - several times. It's hard to see from the video, but the seat looked OK to me. Plenty big enough. She shouldn't have berated the sfewardess who did all she could to alleviate the situation, but it didn't warrant a job-suspension threat. The suggestion that sbe be removed from the plane was totally ludicrous. She was most likely flying for business which meant she had a time-restriction to follow, maybe an important meeting. The emphasis these days seems always to insist on tolerance for the ones creating the disturbance - in this case the baby.
So 1) Peirez is an employee of New York State, not the US Federal Government. 2) she tried to use her connection to Gov. Cuomo to commandeer a better seat on the flight - that alone is grounds for disciplinary action. 3) a crying baby wasn't the cause of Peirez's tirade. Rather it was the lack of result when she demanded an upgrade based on her affiliation with the governor that set her off. The 19 year old mother of the 8 month old asking the woman not to curse simply caused the tirade to be redirected. Please research your stories thoroughly BEFORE you post them. It took all of five minutes to uncover this information.
I was flying once with my very young son. If I remember correctly he was under 12 months. A woman got on the flight looked at us and said "oh no I am not sitting by a baby" I replied with a simple "Listen lady, he is not that thrilled about sitting next to you either."
Everyone was a crying baby at (at least one) point in their life, and someone had to put up with you. Pay it forward and move on.
The woman acted in an immature way, but at the same time, sitting right next to a crying baby is a nightmare. On one flight I was on there were four babies, all very close to me. One was right in front of me, another right behind, another across the aisle and another up ahead somewhere. The worst part was that there was never any break in crying because as soon as one would stop another would start. I get that for some people it's unavoidable to have to take their baby with them but I think something should be done about the problem
I freaked out at first cause the woman and her baby look EXACTLY like my aunt and cousin.
I love that an entitled person threatened someone else's job and ended up getting in trouble at hers! This is how all adults who throw temper tantrums should be treated! Mad props to that airline for supporting their staff and travelers in this situation
That woman was rude BUT.... Babies should not be taken on flights, nor in restaurants, and not in movies until they are old enough to behave. You are being completely inconsiderate of everyone around you. Stop expecting the whole world to accommodate you just because you had a kid.... it didn't take brains to make one.
I'm 58 and I want to cry when on a plane, I can't imagine a baby with all those strangers, the heat, noise. I am sure the little one would settle down once everyone else did, they are easily distracted at that age. I would try and help the mom, having had 3 grown now, how I miss those days, crying or not.
Another reason for me to be booking all 3 seats in airplane, one for me, one for my partner and one for baby in special car/plane seat :D and nobody would sit next to us :D
babies cry bc they can not talk to say what the hell is making them uncomfortable... someone has to explain this to mrs Peirez... But yelling seemed to be better than helping the mom.
What an a*s. And some of the comments are just ridiculous, like the guy saying if he had to get on a flight next to a baby he would be off that flight immediately! Seriously this is what is wrong with the world. People travel, old young sick injured you name it. Babies cry, in fact, it's actually more likely to be a million times more stressful for the mum with a crying child than any other passengers. Anyone not heard of ar plugs? Noise cancelling headphones? Deal with it!
Hasn't there been some articles about airlines looking at providing adult only flights so that people can choose not to fly with children? Or have I made that up?

Load More Replies...I think sometimes the altitude gives them an earache. I suggest discussing that possibility with their pediatrician before flying with them. We flew all night from NYC to Heathrow with an infant behind us screaming the entire time. A couple of times he would stop for five minutes, but just when we thought he was settled in, he go right back to it. I felt sorry for the baby, the grandmother trying to comfort him and for all of us who had hoped to sleep all night.
The good news is that the woman who filmed this IS being sued for invasion of privacy AND wrongful termination of employment. In federal court even since airports are in federal jurisdiction.
NO ONE likes a crying baby, on a plane or anywhere else. Deal with it, you selfish f*****g cow.
Hey Simple Solution DUCT Tape and stick in Baggage compartment----------Women of course.
yeah, f**k that. id have the same reaction. im not sitting next to a f*****g kid
I'm wondering what makes this woman think she is something special? Whatever it is isn't visible and with this behavior the inside must be rotten. Just saying
Yes, flying next to a baby can be disturbing and/or annoying (not always), but there is almost always a better solution than throwing a tantrum. Babies cry... there's nothing anyone can do about that... but there are plenty of other options besides losing your S#!t
Thank god there are headphones in this world. I was in the plane, same scenario, women with children near me,the kid was crying like hell. Put my headphones, maximum volume,I think at least 20 people heard the music.
Regrettably, some people just fail to realise the truth of their mere existence!
You use this word: "instant". I do not think it means what you think it means.
This is what US government employee Susan Peirez had to learn the hard way when She's a state employee, not a federal employee.
That last pic looks like John Lovitz! I'd rather sit next to a crying baby than an angry drunk on an airplane (or anywhere).
She is not even sitting really next to the baby- there is a corridor between them.. And she is dislikable like hell.. But: I don't like the new trend of publicly shaming everyone- especially if they mention the real name- what do people think by that? Do they want to hunt her down with pitchforkes?
I never want to be around kids.. ESPECIALLY on a plane BUT this is no way to act. We do need child-free flight options tho.
People put up with your crying when you were that age. This is called payback.
Don't know what's worse stinky, drunk people or crying baby with a full diaper. Sometime even Valium and ear plugs don't manage.
Rodney Dangerfield in drag and back from the grave....aaaahhhhhh!!!!
This happened last year. I remember seeing the video then when everyone was posting videos about people claiming they'd been mistreated by flight attendants when in fact the passenger had been an absolute douchebag during the entire boarding process. I had a red eye flight out of Seattle get delayed by and hour and a half because some idiot thought it was ok for him to sit in business class on his economy ticket. After arguing with and threatening the flight attendant, he was dragged off the plane by Seattle PD. We applauded the police as they dragged him away in cuffs.
"That's fine mam, why don't you sit on this seat and you'll be far from the baby very quickly" - "Hello Captain, please activate the ejector seat 5A"
You people are idiots. Why should a baby be allowed to invade my space? Strangle the little bas*tard.
F**k crying babies, why do people with kids think they are beyond any criticism? F**k your kids.
Babies Cry it is no big deal, they don't cry uninterrupted for hours at a time. They also laugh and are entertaining to be around. If you hadn't been such a butt you would have found that out. I hope every time you fly in the future you are seated next to adorable children. Maybe you'll learn something.
Not everyone agrees that babies are adorable or entertaining.
Load More Replies...There are business flights for god's sake, no babies or children. Children on airplanes can be TERRIBLE, there are whole comedy riffs about it and plenty of migraine type headaches. People do have to travel with their children and should be given some latitude, they, in turn, should do their best to control their children's behavior. Mutual respect for each other and the journey you are on would go a long way. Earphones, books, movies et all can be a diversion; or even being outrageous and offering to help in some way.
Hey simple solution DUCT TAPE and stick in Baggage compartment.......The women of course.
Let's start with this mother is 19 years old and a mother... and we'll just go from there.
1) doesn’t exactly sound like she yelled at the baby. 2) don’t bring your wailing offspring on enclosed public spaces!! I don’t care how ‘necessary’ your flight was other people also have ‘necessary’ flights and they Do Not want to spend it listening to your kids wailing- the sound of a baby crying is literally used in TORTURE as a way to break down the person, so it’s not exactly healthy to be stuck on a plane next to a wailing baby. Also: can we PLEASE stop with the parent worshipping culture we have? The person with the baby who was filming it was easily as offensive and rude as the lady complaining about it (filming without her consent, not booking both seats at least) but because she’s the ‘suffering parent’ everyone comes out in favour of her- completely ignoring the fact she chose to ruin everyone else’s flights with her crying baby. Flights are stressful enough as it is.
Drive then because somehow I think babies are allowed on planes!

You really DO seem to care, though. You're here telling everyone your problems, and you're posting about how hard done by you are. If you didn't care, you wouldn't post.
