When we were kids parents taught us to be respectful towards older people than us and we did, because they had more knowledge and experience, so it seemed that they knew better and we couldn’t disagree with them or oppose their views. But growing up you start to realize that actually, adults don't actually always know what they are doing, how things work and their knowledge might be expired.

So we get frustrated when older people than us still try to pretend they know better and criticize our way of living. There are things that they like to repeat all the time and Reddit users shared what they are when baker10923 asked them, “Younger people of Reddit. What are you tired of hearing from older generations?”

Do you get annoyed when you hear older people say these things? What other things you personally are tired of hearing? Let us know in the comments!

30 Examples Of What Young People Have Had Enough Of Hearing From Older People, Shared In This Online Community I'm 64 and I'm really tired of listening to people my age whine about stuff that younger people do.

* It definitely was NOT better when we were kids;
* a phone isn't that f-ing hard to figure out;
* It's not that nobody talks anymore; it's just that nobody wants to talk to *you.*

Buddy, I’ve been working 60+ hours a week and prices keep going up and my pay is not and I actually cannot afford to change jobs, change my living situation, buy a more fuel efficient car, or go to college. There actually is no out. There is no work harder and I’ll make it. I’m literally in the poverty trap. I’m slowly making my way out of it but it’s going to be a long a*s time unless some other opportunity magically appears. College isn’t the price of a McDouble anymore old man.

People need to keep up with how the economy shifts in the US and to some extent in Canada. For example, prices have gone up far faster than minimum wage, wage disparity has gotten more extreme, job security barely exists, etc. All one has to do is check the news, listen to people, etc. It makes no sense to stay frozen in time and offer platitudes.

30 Examples Of What Young People Have Had Enough Of Hearing From Older People, Shared In This Online Community - I don't work hard enough (I've been employed as long as I've legally been able to work, balancing up to 3 jobs at a time...but sure)

- I'm old, i.e., too old to be loved (tons of problems with that, but also, I'm 31?! That's not old)

- I expect too much (yea, decent pay, decent and affordable housing. Totally a spoiled brat).

- I'm immature because I don't want bio children (I'd argue it's a sign of my maturity that I know myself well enough to not have kids)

- My standards in relationships are too high (not to be abused by partners/friends/employers...if that's high bar, I'm speechless).

My parents' (Silent-Boomer cusp) first house was 1 year of my dad's salary. My (GenX) house cost more than 3 years of my salary. And I was only able to buy it because I worked 6 months of overtime (60-80 hours a week) and, at the time, it was a buyer's market. I still could only afford a small 2BR house.

Eighteen years ago we bought a house (semidetached), now identical houses in the same street goes for three to four times the price, and salaries have "only" doubled. The houses could easily have been more expensive, but we had a local economic recession about eight years ago where prices plummeted.

I never looked at it this way, but yeah, the house down the street sold for 10x my annual salary. When I bought my house 12 years ago, it cost roughly 2.5x my annual salary. Now it would be at least 6x for this house.

I only managed to buy a house because my husband and I got very lucky with timing and several other factors, had to cash in some of my retirement savings for the down payment, and it's gotten so much worse with all the corporations "investing" in buying houses, driving prices sky high for people who actually need a place to live rather than a bit of extra profit.

11 years ago, the houses near my work in the middle of a midwestern city were about 2x my teacher salary (and I am well paid for a teacher since I have a doctorate, I make double what an entry level teacher with a BA/BS would make). These are older, smaller 2-3 beds with 1 baths. Now, they're going for 5-6x my salary, and my salary increased 30% since I started 11 years ago- it would be 10x more if you count my starting salary. The only way I could buy my current home last year as a GenX was due to covid; the pause of student loans, the stimulus checks, and not being able to spend money due to closures. My current home is about 2.5x my salary, which is okay with my. I am trying to pay the principal down quickly so that it would be paid off by the time I retire. Now with the crazy inflation and gas prices, and the return of student loan payments, I worry about being able to continue making extra payments or even just to save.

I get the point in this post but I am 67 and I can't remember a time when you could buy a livable house for double the amount of your yearly wage. In 1967, in Toronto ( highest pay rate in Canada at the time) an electrician made 4.10 an hour, a female typist made .67- .75 cents an hour. If you were lucky enough to get the 4.10 an hour it meant that you made 8,528.00 per year. The average house at the time was 25,000 to 30,000 for a family bungalow with 1 bathroom. So the highest pay for a qualified building tradesman was about 1/4 of the price of a home- better than today by a mile but not 50%.

My bro-in-law coaches kids' soccer. He wouldn't be keen on participation trophies. He blew off an email from a couple who worried about their kid's self-esteem if they didn't play in every game. My BIL explained to the kid why they weren't playing in one of the games and the kid was fine. He's very good with children, but he doesn't treat them like delicate hothouse plants. He definitely has more patience with the kids than their parents!

30 Examples Of What Young People Have Had Enough Of Hearing From Older People, Shared In This Online Community Excuses for the fact that they haven't learned anything new since they were 30.

Like bro come on computers been around for 30 years at the very least and you still don't know how to use one?

The only excuse that you have is laziness.

Edit: it's more than just computers. Things like the fact that Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia don't exist anymore, nor do east and west Germany, basic geography beyond the US, Canada and Mexico etc., . Many things they should know by know.

- a commenter made the point, it's the same with racist and sexist language. A lot of them have not been ok for literal decades but people haven't bothered to learn that and/or not use them.

Edit 2: those of you exclusively focusing on computer use it's definitely an important thing I'm not saying you have to necessarily know how to create a spreadsheet I am saying that you need to to use the technology that exists in public that the public runs on without slowing down or negatively impacting anybody else. Just like any other societal norms that we do.

Employers stopped offering company pensions and started expecting you to give up your entire life for your job, and for garbage pay and benefits. We literally went through all this s**t first. While it is absolutely worse for Millennials than it was for us, don't put us in the Boomer category, because we didn't have it easy like they did.

Well, in 1980, when I was 19 the "Great Recession" started, Ronnie "Ray-Gun" laid the groundwork for the current $h!t storm, mortgages started being more expensive to get, jobs were tanking, Iran was kicking off... It may not have been "hard", but it was a lot for a 19 year-old, living on her own to contend with. Oh, and 2 years later , I was homeless for over 2 years.
