“Yes, But”: Artist Draws A Series Of Sarcastic Comics That Show How Contradictory Society Is (22 New Pics)
Interview With ArtistNot even a year has passed, and Russian artist Anton Gudim is back on Bored Panda! In today's article, we want to share more of his sarcastic comics from the "YES, BUT" series. Anton is a master of absurdity, irony, and dark humor. His illustrations perfectly capture the ridiculousness of modern society and make fun of something that we have accepted as normal.
Anton Gudim is mostly known for the quirky short paneled comics he shares on Instagram, which now has more than 1 million followers. His newest project "YES, BUT" is similar in the topics, but is different in style, because here, unlike in his other works, Anton posts only two-panel comics. But don't get yourselves tricked! Even though they are shorter, these comics are no less influential. The illustrations touch on topics such as consumerism, people's behavior, ecology and many more. Through the prism of humor and irony, that's how Anton portrays modern society.

And when I deliberately give them a box they don't f****n use it! Once had a large cat who preferred small boxes. He wouldn't be bothered unless it was a challenge to get into. He'd look like a muffin.
That's so true! I used to have a horrible box almost destroyed that my cat started to use to sleep inside! I decided to take a proper box for him put inside a small pillow and a blanket! He never used it! He wanted the destroyed one🤷♀️
Load More Replies...Our kitty has a small box filled with cat toys we've collected over the years, but what's her favorite toy? A crumpled-up ball of paper.
Same! Bag filled with toys. His fav? Paper balls and hair ties
Load More Replies...Same can be true of large, expensive, and usually complicated children toys. I had a niece whose grandparents (on the other side, not my parents) were wealthy, and would buy her things like the entire fully stocked child-size kitchen set, which she never used, but she had an incredible amount of fun playing with—-and using her imagination to change the use of—-the big box it came in. It started as a make believe car, then a turtle shell where she was the turtle inside, then a pushcart for the dog, a great hide and seek hiding option, plus a few other incarnations, until finally she broke it down and cut it up (with the standard safety scissors, of course) to make a little town out of the cardboard, tape, and crayons. She played with that until it finally all fell apart. All while the fancy and expensive little kitchen set gathered dust.
My mother has a cat in her small business as a mascot and they get him the coziest beds, yet it preferes to sleep on dirty towels or the table sometimes, I guess cats do it on purpose.
I don’t have one but he used to use it and doesn’t like boxes I have a weird cat
Anton Gudim has been drawing for as long as he can remember. However, his profession has nothing or little to do with art. The artist graduated from a technical university since he had a talent when it came to mathematics and began working as an engineer. Throughout his career, Anton changed a few jobs, but he felt that something was missing. It was then that he realized that he would like to return to drawing, but "with a more formed worldview.”
Use lengthy customized pass-phrases that you can remember, not weird passwords. The longer the pass-phrase, the exponentially more difficult it is to crack. Or license a password manager, like 1Password.
I was just going to say. Test your password on "howsecureismypassword.net". You'll see that a pass phrase (sentence), is more secure than modem line noise passwords.
Load More Replies...I have a really simple process for passwords. 1. Generate a password based on the site's name, purpose, location, etc. Something you will remember. E.g. say you want a password for facebook. Start with something like "Zuck is a robot". Include spaces. 2. Shove it through an encryption algorithm like RSA, MD5, etc. 3. Copy paste that result into a password manager. Done. Advantage: even if your password manager dies (hello 1password I am looking at you), the password is easy to remember, all you have to do is remember what the word was, and what encryption you used.
This is a pure English style vacation 😂 few people from my work do that. I mean what is the point? They could go and stay in the hotel in UK. But no, they need to add a new place to their "visited" list 😅
I don't get that either! I also don't get the all inclusive type of vacation that many people choose and don't get out of the hotel! This is the type of vacation that if i do it will be on my 70's and maybe not even then
Load More Replies...So this one is true even before smartphones. My father in law used to show me his travel photos of the various exotic places he went and they mostly consisted of him standing in front of a shop front or monument where he occupied most of the frame. Without an explanation from him as to where the photo was taken I would not have been able to tell where the photo was taken. Yet, he had the cheek to criticise my travel photos which mostly showed architectural sights or museum relics. He was baffled why I wasn't in the photo. I said because I was more interested to remember what i saw than what I looked like on that day.
So he wanted to go in a hot tub in different countries. Big deal, completely acceptable.
"I am not doing anything on purpose. I am not out for a 'safari' with a camera on people to see them in their habitat. I just live my life: and my life is both everyday affairs and social networks. As soon as I started the 'YES, BUT' project, I began to notice examples of this format literally everywhere. So I just live and take notes."
How can a consumer reduce their waste until the producers reduce the plastic in their supplies?
When consumers won't buy the product unless it's in a biodegradable container
Load More Replies...Lidl recently changed the bags in my country into the bioplastic ones! I usually take with me the fabric ones and never use those but when i forget i have to take! I don't understand how these are better honestly! As i understand they disappear faster from the planet but the fast is too fast! I didn't manage to get to my house 5 min walk away without the bag being ripped apart! You have to take a lot more which i find worse than having a proper one! What's the point to make something plastic that gets destroyed in 3 seconds? Can't even use it as a trash bag afterwards
Exactly, which means that buy extra trash bags which of course are pure plastic, so how did we solve this problem? Plus the plastic is the least of our problems(watch Seaspiracy).
Load More Replies...Not to mention the fact that you have to use that cotton bag as your only shopping bag for practically the rest of your life to offset the carbon foot print of producing that bag. From the farmer buying the seeds for the cotton to the shipping of the finished product to the consumer and EVERYTHING in between. Think about it - it's mind boggling.
I think it's more about *not* producing tons of plastic waste
Load More Replies...My hubby once found an uncashed insurance rebate check for $500 in our recycling bin. It'd gotten mixed in with some junkmail on the cluttered counter. That's the main reason I get uptight about clutter, important stuff can get lost.
My ex used to throw away ALL my paperwork which was stacked neatly. Cheques, important paperwork.. oh yeah, our 2nd child's BIRTH REGISTRY. Notice I said my "ex"
Load More Replies...Oh such wonderful organization skills. Pan out.... Oh wait well uh..... Huh
We got curious whether Anton feels the need to return to his works after some time in order to improve them. The artist shared that he tries not to devote too much time to each work (we are talking about several days of revisions) because after finishing one work, his mind is freed up for a new idea - and this is the main engine of his creative process.
"Sometimes I return to my works 3-4 years ago and slightly correct them. My drawing skills are getting better, but for some time some ideas remain relevant, so I want to refine some ideas in terms of presentation, to show that I can do better. However, some figures do not require revision after years."
YES -- i phone 13 PRO MAX provides 28 hr battery BUT -- COST -$ 1,749.95
Load More Replies...This is reasonable. You charge it on ten minutes instead of having to hold the weight of both in your hands, you only hold the small one
In slimmer phones, you have less space to put a powerful battery. A sleeker, slimmer phone means you have to carry around a bulky portable charger anyway.
Load More Replies...My galaxy phone is slim and has a battery that will last about 2-3 days with use. And it replaced a six year old galaxy phone whose battery lasted the entire day with use at the time of replacement.
But can you tell it to NOT allow facebook access to your microphone? go check before answering.
Load More Replies...Any smartphone which is really slim will have this problem dude.
Load More Replies...And if there is a third one, its crumpled and stuff

In Italy, they use solar energy (also known as clothes lines) to dry their laundry. They don't seem to mind if all their neighbors and passersby find out that they wash their clothes. Apparently, they think that wearing clean clothes, and saving money and protecting the environment, is a good thing.
Not only in Italy! I don't see anything wrong with that - if that's the sense of this picture
Load More Replies...I think you all have it wrong. Literally, you buy a fresh set of undergarments. After the first wash, they get all wrinkly & they lose their luster, especially when you mix with other clothes.
Thank u for saying something that actually makes sense lol
Load More Replies...I guess underwear being private when it's worn but then you hang it on the line for all your neighbours to see.
Dirty? I think you dry laundry when it's clean or I don't get this picture at all! Confused!!!
Load More Replies...Yes, where else am I supposed to dry my fancy underwear? Not in the dryer, hopefully!
I don't get it...? It's a problem people see your style of underwear or something?
Someone yelled out of their car to "get a car" to my brother when he'd walk everywhere.
Load More Replies...Why is this so funny to me ?EDIT: IS MY HUMOR BROKEN?!
Load More Replies...Every time! And then I feel bad when the car next to me has reversed in so we both have to get in on the small side.
So Apropo, Happens to me more times than I would like. One time .mirror folded back from the force of the other car's door! Neat plate too!
This is similar to the time a veggie co worker had a go at me for eating a bacon sandwich. I happily interjected her whole "meat is murder" speech to remind her that she was wearing leather boots.
The leather boots could be second hand though or she could have them from before she became vegetarian! Should she throw them away? She shouldn't lecture you though
Load More Replies...Dunno, when we take down our Christmas decorations and tree, it only takes a fraction of the effort it took to install it all and get everything “just right.”
I love Christmas and I always set up my by the first weekend of November in order to enjoy my tree for more time ...
Load More Replies...only if you have a natural organic tree. we have a plastic one so we don't have to cut down a tree every year. It's served us for decades.
Load More Replies...Pretty much. Every year I unpack my decorations and I'm like "what kind of mood was I in when I put these away?!"
The bald guy doesn't need to wear a swim cap like the other 3
When I was a kid in the late 60s, our community pool made females wear bathing caps, no matter how long or short their hair was. Boys and men did not, in spite of some of them having hair down to their shoulders.
It's not just a concern of eating fish in general, the main issue with this is the absolute havoc overfishing does to aquatic environments, fresh or salt water.
and the amount of pointless killing ocean waste does. It's one thing to kill a fish and eat it, it's another to kill a fish and just leave it.
Load More Replies...Ik this is gonna get down votes, but we eat fish 🤷🏻♀️
Load More Replies...They are trying to save the ocean but they are eating sea food
Load More Replies...All those instruments but using fake programs to make music. Where's the feeling?!!! Edit: I was joking along the lines of "once more with feeling" I've used programs to compose really awesome stuff but also actual instruments. Summer night jam sessions wouldn't be the same with a program.
In my limited experience making music on my computer, the feeling is totally still there. Just instead of going directly into individual notes it goes into the overall design of the song. For me figuring out melodies on the computer is the same feeling as figuring them out on piano, and playing it back is the same feeling as hearing what you're playing live.
Load More Replies...I don't have the money for a recording studio! Is GarageBand really so bad?!
I'd work on a recording studio for some years. For the price we charged the digital solutions solved a lot of issues and made a lot dreams come true. But real recordings with real instruments always will be more rewarding for everyone involved.
He's happy when the driver speeds while he's on the car, but angry when he's crossing the street.
Load More Replies...“Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?” - George Carlin
I saw him as transparent and possibly a ghost in the second panel? I figured he got killed in the cab that was speeding, and now, his ghost haunts speeding drivers on the street.
This one is aimed to show that you don't care about speeding only when you need to get somewhere (Hey driver, want some extra buck for fast ride?). But at other time "hey jerk, I'm walking here"
Lol I see it as that the cab and person are going the same speed due to probably traffic so why shouldn’t the guy just walk. It’s probably more of a New York reference for taking cabs that move at a snails pace in the busy congested city. Moral is walk for health for yourself and planet lol.
Apart from the useless shop, which is a great pun, I don't get this one?
TFW your new follower reveals it’s a spambot and tags you
Load More Replies...Every American movie when smth Russian is slightly mentioned: "SCHKEYRPKHTKHYYUZHKH"
I mean... they shouldn't be ashamed if they like their hair :/ {no offense ppl}
I don't feel he's ashamed, it's the contrast between the colorful hair and the sadness he's feeling at the same time. Kind of "don't judge a book by its cover".
Load More Replies...Several of these don't make a lot of sense. Feels like they were trying to hit a quota. Dude wears rainbow hair, but then goes to funeral conformed to an all black attire... Yes, some traditions don't need revamping. It's a sombre moment. And he shouldn't avoid having fun hair because someone might die.
So my hair offends you? Grow the f**k up. He dressed in black, he should dye his hair black too for a day and then wait a year for it to grow down? Seems like you're implying he only dyed it for the funeral. BS. I had not this colorful but very much colored hair for a long time. This is not for the occasion
Christianity=morality, and pole dancing=immorality. Rigghhht. At least pole dancers don't expect everyone else to be a pole dancer.
I dont think it's Christianity=moral, stripping=immoral, pretty sure it's more about the contradiction, Christianity is pretty hard set that women should dress modestly and sex work is sinful
Load More Replies...Pole dancers can’t be Christian?! Is that what they’re trying to say?
The further we go down the most stupid and stereotypical the comics become i think
Load More Replies...not everyone who has cross tats. or wears cross jewelry, dosnt automatically make them religious. me n my bro are atheists. and he has a cross tat. amd I wear a cross necklace my grandma used to have. . bro think it looks cool. n mines for sentimental reasons.
Your brother has a cross tattoo because he thinks it looks cool. That's interesting. Why does he think it looks cool? Im a Christian and I just want to understand.
Load More Replies...Certain Christian groups... Judgemental people... Hateful people... Why I turned my back on it.
That’s what I was thinking. Upside down cross. Or that Type O Negative song “Christian Woman”.
Load More Replies...Matthew 21:31 "the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you" jesus says sex workers will get into heaven while those who judge them will not.
Having a cross tattoo didn't necessarily have anything to do with religion. I had a friend who's an atheist and had cross tattoos because... I can't remember the reason
These say a lot more about the artist than the society he's supposedly criticizing.
Those were a lot of strawmen, cherry picking, and random problems that most likely only exist in the artist's head
I must be missing something. I didn't get most of these. I feel like the artist is trying to say something but they dont know what.
I'm glad to know I'm not alone in thinking that same way.
Load More Replies...These say more about the artist than the society he's supposedly criticizing.
A lot of these just don't make sense...either that, or I'm incredibly sheltered and have no clue what the artist is referring to.
actually I agreed with lots of the points about ecology or common decency until he started to be a judgy idiot
