With the help of the internet, we can learn a lot about the world without ever leaving home. The trouble is, not everything online is true. And when so much information gets repeated often enough, it becomes easy to believe things that are completely wrong.

That’s exactly why Reddit users from around the globe took it upon themselves to debunk some of the most common myths people still hold about their countries. From Australia to Albania and beyond, scroll down to see what they had to say. It’s quite the eye-opener.

True, people here are materialistic, but they are still very spiritual because religion is very widely practised. There are millions of beautiful temples here that see millions of visitors each year. People go on religious trips to sacred cities like Varanasi all the time and many people take oaths or abstain from something as penance. I would still say India is quite spiritual and religious.

I am convinced that Estonia is actually mostly made from drinking water. Like a sponge. And if we did not clean our draining ditches regularly, the entire country would turn into a swamp in less than 10 years - the source: me having to go hunting on "dry land" (Ha!) in fishing boots up to my hips and that WITH working drainage ditches. But I am constantly surprised by how backwards other countries are in the IT. Like someone wrote here that they have to bring a PAPER to their PHYSICAL registration office to register a vehicle??? Like in the 19th century???
