Workers Make Truthful Signs About Why Employers Are Facing Staff Shortages
The US Labor Department reports that job openings rose to a two-year high in February, while in March employers added nearly 1M new jobs. In this new reality of the post-pandemic world when more and more businesses are reopening their doors, job openings are accelerating faster than people can send job applications.
Unsurprisingly, many business owners are frustrated with this whole situation as they complain over how nobody wants to work these days. But things are not that easy. A growing body of workers are now stepping up to voice their eye-opening reasons on why making frappuccinos and defrosting pies would not be the smartest idea right now. And these are way more complex than just “wanting” or “not wanting” to work.
So in order to be heard, workers are now making their own posters to defend themselves from being continually blamed for staffing shortages across the country. Read on below to see what people had to say about it all.
Workers have had enough of their employees crying over how “nobody wants to work” in times of pandemic, so they’re putting up paper signs to explain why that is

The recent A.U.S. Census survey conducted in March found that about 4.2 million adults aren’t looking for jobs, not because they’re scarce, but because of worries about catching the coronavirus, states The Wall Street Journey.
Another reason is that while businesses are reopening, many adult employees with children have no one to leave their kids with. Caregiving responsibilities have particularly affected potential female employees as in late March, more than half of schools were still in remote learning or combination classes. Many women feel torn at this point, realizing that they can’t do both—be a good stay-at-home mom and an exemplary employee.

Unemployment benefits have been the last resource for many unemployed people to support the economy with weekly expansions of $600. University of Chicago researchers have found that “benefit expansions during the pandemic were a more effective policy than predicted by standard structural models.” Their figures showed that “overall spending was 2.0-2.6 percent higher and employment only 0.2-0.4 percent lower as a result of the benefit expansions.”
Armed with wit, people started making memes about the whole “they don’t want to work” situation

But these expansions are already set to finish in early September and economists are watching to see what that means for business owners and low-wage workers. The low-wage workers are the most affected by the pandemic quirks in the economy and they are likely to recover much slower than higher-wage workers.

I own a small business that's seasonal my workers make 20$ hour plus benefits! Exactly. The problem is not the minimum wage, it is that we as a society have over-produced educated workers. There aren’t enough white collar jobs to go around. And the colleges were happy to take all that money and produce too many graduates.

I work in customer service for health insurance, two years ago we were required to get a brokers lics or lose our jobs said its a state requirement, but new hires are not required to get it or have it. 4 months out of the year is our busiest time, and they are never prepared for the high volume we have to deal with. It is really bad. These corporations that have insane profits, have a profit margin to salary pay ratio that is incredible. Wages for the most part, really can be increased, a lot. Now, that being said, I think employers should have a minimum wage based off of a profit margin percent. That would make a, let's say for example (made up numbers) a mc donald's worker earn 25 an hour, and a small business worker maybe earn 11. But now there is competition and employees will have a better advantage of chosing a job. Maybe the small business cannot ever find someone that wants to earn that little, but at least it is not a wage that forces them to close shop because they cannot afford employees. I don't know, this probably sounds ludacris.
But if they increase the wages to be livable then the execs can't pay themselves 3x the market rate to afford their mansions and garage full of sports cars!

Yes, yes, we're all lazy cuz we don't want to work for $7.25/hr with no benefits. Cry me a river Amaz, walmt, McD's, etc., etc.
But won't we as consumers just get even more screwed by the companies? I'm in support of the intention but the problem is far more complex than raising the minimum wage alone. We've already seen a 4.2% increase in the price of consumer goods this last year due to the pandemic. I worry companies will just offset the higher wages by higher prices, and we'll just end up where we started. Sure we'll have higher wages and better benefits but what does it matter if the cost of living also increases?
GOOD. Bleed these slave-wage corporations dry until they treat workers the way they should have been treated all along; with living wages, benefits and some f*****g respect.
You can tip fast food workers too and they really appreciate it! And before anyone jumps on me, I know tipping isn’t the answer. I know they should be paid a livable wage. I agree, agree, agree. But I am one man and until then, throw a couple bucks to the worker who ran the burger and fries out to your car while you waited. Fast food was my first job and it was awesome when I got a tip so I pay it forward.
$8.00 hour was a living wage in 1999. Then industries went to China. Shipping costs went up, then commodities went up leading to a rise in cost for consumables, thus leading to a rise in housing cost, and more debts than pay.
While I agree that the wage/benefits issue is the problem...people should realize this isn't going to change overnight. Sooner rather than later, someone who really needs the job and the low pay is going to take it. Many jobs like cashiers and fast food counter workers are going to be replaced by kiosks where the customer can order and pay and the only people working will be cooking/cleaning etc. They already implemented the kiosk system throughout southeast Asia years ago. Minimal staff on hand. People definitely deserve better than slave labor, but the harsh reality is that these jobs are going to go away at some point...and then what will they do?

You "respect" the workers but aren't a fan of giving them the security of a decent livable decent wage. :7 Because that's all what "minimum wages" mean. It's not "Let's see what we can pay at a minimum so we won't get accused of slavery. " If you did some research you'd find that paying livable minimum wages would be beneficial to all parties involved. The disgusting "let's keep them poor, dumb and tired so they don't have the energy to revolt." is supported by too many Americans. Even by the poor, dumb and tired ones.
Load More Replies...This is clearly coordinated activism and not authentic. All the posts were worded the same way: a way in which neither employers nor employees would actually speak. Who’s up for a Great Reset?
There's nothing out there saying employer's can't pay $10-15 per hour. But when a restaurant does that then food prices go up and nobody wants to pay that price so they go out of business. So my question is this.... if you hire someone at $15/hr and I have been working the same job at the same place making $15.50 after being there 10 years do I get a big raise?? I would be upset with a greenback getting hired on for dang near what I make working there for 10 ..... Has anyone ever thought about it that way??
That’s never how that has worked in the past, but has been one of the excuses every time.
Load More Replies...This is precisely why the minimum wage must be increased. As long as there are desperate people to exploit, such businesses will not raise their wages or prices due to it not fitting their profitability goals.

Load More Replies...You have "two useful degrees", that's something the average low wage American worker has very little chance of getting, because higher education is incredibly expensive, and the quality of schools for children/teens in low income neighborhoods is often substandard. Can you go to the doctor if you are ill? Heath insurance is tied to employment in the US and these types of jobs do not offer insurance to their hourly workers. That means most workers go years without proper preventive care, and even a small emergency will leave then in debt for years? Can you afford a safe place to live? Rents vary a great deal depending on where in the US you are but generally they range from expensive to insane. Do you have transportation between your home and job. Public transportation is sorely lacking in the US. Outside of the major cities getting to these jobs without a personal car is literally impossible. Comparing wages across countries with vastly different costs if living is complex.

" If you did some research you'd find that paying livable minimum wages would be beneficial to all parties involved. The disgusting "let's keep them poor, dumb and tired so they don't have the energy to revolt." is supported by too many Americans. Even by the poor, dumb and tired ones.
