Fashion Writer Says People Shouldn’t Wear Sweatpants For Work At Home, People Online Disagree
If you’re like me and thousands of other people who are stuck working from home, you’re probably dressed in your worn-out but still comfy sweatpants or even Pj’s. These days many of us choose comfort over restricting office dress codes and are very happy to have this opportunity. However, there are people (hopefully there’s just a few) who think that this choice is both un-adultlike and disrespectful to your coworkers.

Recently, a writer for the Los Angeles Times, Adam Tschorn, wrote a harsh piece telling people who are working from home not to wear sweatpants
One of them is Adam Tschorn, a deputy fashion editor who wrote a piece condemning sweatpants. In an article titled ‘Enough with the WFH sweatpants. Dress like the adult you’re getting paid to be’ Tschorn list his pwn reasons why we all should get suited up for our work from home sessions.

If you’re feeling a little bit offended and maybe even attacked by this bold statement, you’re not alone. As expected, the article didn’t prompt people to ditch sweatpants. Instead, they decided to trow a painful roasting session for Tschorn to make it clear that sweatpants are not going anywhere.
However, the article wasn’t received as well as Adam probably expected since people responded by roasting him

Share on FacebookWeek 5 without a bra. The biggest upside to this whole thing is finishing my work day without lines dug into my arms/shoulders (yes, I have them professionally fitted! Before I did, they would abrade skin).
And let's be honest, even professionally fitted means they only fit really well for a percentage of the time - hormones altering the size of breasts for a certain length of time each month. That is when they also hurt and comfort becomes more desirable than anything. Sigh.
Load More Replies...I get paid for doing my job, not for wearing suits. Dressing up actually distracts me.
Tells us to grow up yet goes nuts over what other people are wearing... he sounds like the teens at my old school.
you're basically asking for it when your profile picture looks like that
F*****g stupid. Practically over looking like a dumbass anyday any time. Sweats are made for comfort and that's always more important then looking like a ugly tool in a suit or something
Not sure why anyone would feel the need to lecture people on what they wear, especially in the privacy of their own homes. Conversely, I don't really care what anyone else wears or doesn't wear at home, or anywhere else for that matter. Oh and I don't buy the "a 'bot sent it", he sent it and was caught flat footed.
Yeah, I'm working from home and I care about how I'm perceived on my zoom meetings. So I'm wearing a shirt and jacket... and cargo shorts. I'm not so gauche as to look like a smarties pedophile protecting themselves from sarcomas. Honestly, isn't it considered rude to wear hats inside?
LA Times should be ashamed for giving him the fashion post. Why take fashion advice from someone who is not fashionable? In time of crisis, one wouldn't care what they wear at home. Not part of your job description to wear suits at home to be able to get things done.
It seems like he was joking and looking for responses to his tweet - the "thumb in a hat" comment is pretty hilarious
I actually went ordered sweatpants to wear because I did not own any. if I am going to have to suffer through this lock down I am doing it comfortably.
May I suggest: the cargo short. 4 side pockets, 2 rear pockets. Good for smartphone, spare smartphone (the old one that you use for listening to podcasts or internet surfing because it has a bigger screen), cordless landline phone (yeah, I still got one), and, let's say, a snack or two.
The great thing about working from home is I can wear whatever I want! I can also not take a shower for daaaays, as the webcam res is so low, you can't see whether my hair is dirty or not ;) And pants, no one sees those, so wear whatever you want, or nothing at all.
As I have told many people through out my life .. . WHEN YOU BUY MY CLOTHES I WILL WEAR WHAT YOU WANT.
I have a relative whose husband does. Believe me it is not something anyone should agree to. His control over her clothing is worrying and probably only part of how much he decides for her. Shudder.
Load More Replies...I think the backlash towards him is unwarranted. For some people, dressing up is a way to hold onto normalcy and/or make it harder to take too many naps and snack breaks. If it matters to him, then he can dress up.
Of course he can, but that doesn't give him the right to tell other people how they should dress. He wrote a whole article attacking people for daring to be comfortable in their own home, he got what he deserved.
Load More Replies...I have worked from home for 6yrs, and I always get dressed every day, even though no-one will ever know the difference. I dress because I like to look half decent for myself and for my partner, and to keep a sense of normalcy in my life. I can recommend. Ps: I don't even own sweat pants.
That is just social conditioning. You let yourself believe it matters. Up to you what you wear and what you believe but it is all just what you have been trained to think. What truly matters is what you achieve and how you achieve it, not what fabric encases the body while you do it.
Load More Replies...Again that's YOUR choice, not my choice, yours. Don't project your needs and feelings of inadequacy on other people. Oh, and by the way, I don't think anyone gives a s**t about what you wear.
Load More Replies...I don’t because I would be wearing scrubs around the house. I’m a dental hygienist and have no reason to wear them until my office reopens. I guess it’s sweats for me.
Load More Replies...Hasn't impacted my job yet. I've been way more productive at home in sweatpants than I've ever been in the office.
