Artist Creates Honest Illustrations Showing What Women Do When No One Is Watching
In April 2015, Little Rock Illustrator Sally Nixon started an art project called "365" in which she had to create one illustration per day for a whole year. As it was not that easy to think of new drawing ideas so frequently, Sally started to search for inspiration in her own life and simple routine moments that she's going through. The artist wanted to show the natural side of real women besides staged Instagram selfies, Snapchat filters, and all the other forms of social media that rule our world.
The women of Nixon's beautiful drawings are captured doing their casual everyday life things like taking a shower, eating in bed, brushing their teeth, walking around the house without pants, and having lazy TV time with their friends. In other words - women when nobody's watching.
"They don’t have perfect bodies or perfect habits and that makes them relatable,” she explains to TL Andrews. “The scenes I create around them are everyday places: a bathroom, a restaurant, a messy bedroom. However, my goal with each drawing is to elevate the seemingly mundane girl problems to something special.”

My cats definitely follow me to the bathroom, its most annoying when they want to jump on my lap (not when i'm doing my business!) but the other part in this photo that rings true is not putting toilet paper on the dispenser lol

@Celeste Spaniel - LOL!!! You don't live with pets, do you? I am a pet nanny and with my own dogs? I can NEVER go to the bathroom alone. It's like having toddlers, but worse because they never grow up. My youngest dog, Dixie, whines outrageously if I dare not let her into the bathroom and have mercy on me if I want a relaxing bath? She is so worried I am drowning in there she's pacing and whining at me. A dog client of mine pushed his way inside this week and jumped on my lap while I was on the toilet!!! *smh* No boundaries...

This would never happen b/c 1. as a fat kid, i never waste food, this is crazy to me. 2. if i put my plate on the floor, the cats would be all over it. 3. i'm never to tired to not eat.

People commenting on this are so s****y. They're just lovely little drawings showing normal women in regular life. They're not meant to be "exciting" or provocative. Just showing regular life. I loved the series. And I brush my teeth in the shower.

The "s****y" comments aren't all that abundant. I looked at them all. A few people had oddly specific complaints and some didn't like the conflation of title to every image's subject. Some people loved them and some didn't. I don't see the outrageous reaction you're referencing.

If I understand correctly, this was the purpose of the series: to show the "normality" of life. Although I agree, "Nothing spectacular to see here" would fit either. Moreover, most pictures depict a rather similar type of women. What I think lacks is arduousness, curiosity, and many other positive aspirations that may well be as normal as the wish to hand out on the couch.

I'ma grown up woman, and honestly, I don't run around, sit around, lay around my home naked or half nude when I'm alone. I don't like the overal image of "normal woman" that comes from this series. With each picture my distaste kept growing. Not only those aren't anything special art-wise, but the way they portrait and ordinary woman's life I find untruthful.

But she does. Do you mean you don't like how she acts and looks when she's not going out? Or do you mean you are and look different when you don't go out and all made up? I think what she means to portray is that women don't always look how they look on social media since they are almost always all dressed up nice/perfectly, perfect make up. Special pose, 300 instagram filters. And she just portrays her interpertation of how she and her friends look when they don't go out. As far as your distate and. Art is subjective. I gues you should have stopped looking after 2 pictures then. XD Art is special for the one who made it and for the ones who appreciate their art so I don't really get your comment about it's not special art-wise. Art is also not always just about the visual aspect. Sometimes it's about the story behind it and the presentation is just a vessel for it. And something it's a combination.

Are you trying to say women are ALWAYS eating .. because thats the only thing i see in these drawings ... at a time were women are very conscious/insecure about their bodies ..really? I mean you can show that women do eat but why not show a woman on the mirror looking at her body and not make women eating all the time they are alone the main focus !

The artist is clearly skilled, and I find the style to be very charming. There is no "normal" woman. Frankly, there is no "normal". The content is pretty banal, although I get that was the point.Why are all these women so miserable looking? I mean, we don't always have to smile, but generally when I'm eating pizza on the sofa with friends, I don't look like someone just informed me my family was killed in a freak combine accident.

Maybe I live some unknown life because when people aren't looking I am not laying around sleeping eating or being naked. I'm still working my a*s off trying to keep things running for my family.Where are the ones of women doing the family's laundry, cooking dinner, getting up early and making breakfast before kids go to school? Getting herself ready for work after making sure everyone else has what they need? Nobody's looking when I'm doing those things. This may be the norm for some women or people and I guess you have to be in their shoes to relate...

These are wonderful and I'd buy prints I few of them, I like them that much. It's amusing that a few people just didn't get that what women do when no one else is looking is pretty much nothing out of the ordinary, like men they just "be". It's just an amusing bunch of illustrations aimed at the few men who think that we get up to all sorts of "sexy" stuff.

The problem here is how the website promoted the series. Caption is trying to clickbait, while artist depicted just a regular life...So women sit in a toilet when nobody's watching? Surprise, surprise, most of people do the same while nobody's watching... You know...BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T USUALLY LIKE being watched while s******g, or watch some else doing that. And oh my god, they eat pizza (with friends) while nobody's watching? That doesn't even make sense... So there's nothing wrong with those works or the author, it's just how Boredpanda gave this to us

Some of them I find truthful, even the ones where a woman is naked (if you haven't done it, you should try, it's liberating). What I do not understand is why the artist painted few of them at home but with their coats on...??

Of course most women are eating like it's a secret. What's honoring is that these little pictures of women are naked while eating. Speaking as a women, I can't say that I say to myself "Hey, I've decided to be naked while eating a piece of cake" Perhaps the minds of men who wish women did stupid s**t like that. I think that these images are at least a little wrong. I do not think that spending from the stereotype of the ordered prissy woman and great cook, the woman stereotype depressed, that does nothing but gorge themselves (each image has the food !!), drinking and living in the casino is just that good. I admit that I developed some images are easily found, but then I do not think it's all at face value.

Ive enjoyed looking through these and can relate to some whilst watching our teenagers. Duvet days or pj days are a way of winding down and really saying I'm not on call today. Looks to me like the artist thinks we are all naked food addicts who do nothing in normal life but eat, sleep, read and are perpetually partially dressed. People commenting on this are so s****y. They're just lovely little drawings showing normal women in regular life. They're not meant to be "exciting" or provocative. Just showing regular life. I loved the series. And I brush my teeth in the shower.

The "s****y" comments aren't all that abundant. I looked at them all. A few people had oddly specific complaints and some didn't like the conflation of title to every image's subject. Some people loved them and some didn't. I don't see the outrageous reaction you're referencing.

If I understand correctly, this was the purpose of the series: to show the "normality" of life. Although I agree, "Nothing spectacular to see here" would fit either. Moreover, most pictures depict a rather similar type of women. What I think lacks is arduousness, curiosity, and many other positive aspirations that may well be as normal as the wish to hand out on the couch.

I'ma grown up woman, and honestly, I don't run around, sit around, lay around my home naked or half nude when I'm alone. I don't like the overal image of "normal woman" that comes from this series. With each picture my distaste kept growing. Not only those aren't anything special art-wise, but the way they portrait and ordinary woman's life I find untruthful.

But she does. Do you mean you don't like how she acts and looks when she's not going out? Or do you mean you are and look different when you don't go out and all made up? I think what she means to portray is that women don't always look how they look on social media since they are almost always all dressed up nice/perfectly, perfect make up. Special pose, 300 instagram filters. And she just portrays her interpertation of how she and her friends look when they don't go out. As far as your distate and. Art is subjective. I gues you should have stopped looking after 2 pictures then. XD Art is special for the one who made it and for the ones who appreciate their art so I don't really get your comment about it's not special art-wise. Art is also not always just about the visual aspect. Sometimes it's about the story behind it and the presentation is just a vessel for it. And something it's a combination.

I mean you can show that women do eat but why not show a woman on the mirror looking at her body and not make women eating all the time they are alone the main focus !

The artist is clearly skilled, and I find the style to be very charming. There is no "normal" woman. Frankly, there is no "normal". The content is pretty banal, although I get that was the point.Why are all these women so miserable looking? I mean, we don't always have to smile, but generally when I'm eating pizza on the sofa with friends, I don't look like someone just informed me my family was killed in a freak combine accident.

Maybe I live some unknown life because when people aren't looking I am not laying around sleeping eating or being naked. I'm still working my a*s off trying to keep things running for my family.Where are the ones of women doing the family's laundry, cooking dinner, getting up early and making breakfast before kids go to school? Getting herself ready for work after making sure everyone else has what they need? Nobody's looking when I'm doing those things. This may be the norm for some women or people and I guess you have to be in their shoes to relate...

These are wonderful and I'd buy prints I few of them, I like them that much. It's amusing that a few people just didn't get that what women do when no one else is looking is pretty much nothing out of the ordinary, like men they just "be". It's just an amusing bunch of illustrations aimed at the few men who think that we get up to all sorts of "sexy" stuff.

I loved them. This is the representation of what it is like to be truly alive. Sometimes there is excitement but the best times are relaxing and mundane. I found the project inspirational.

The problem here is how the website promoted the series. Caption is trying to clickbait, while artist depicted just a regular life...So women sit in a toilet when nobody's watching? Surprise, surprise, most of people do the same while nobody's watching... You know...BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T USUALLY LIKE being watched while s******g, or watch some else doing that. And oh my god, they eat pizza (with friends) while nobody's watching? That doesn't even make sense... So there's nothing wrong with those works or the author, it's just how Boredpanda gave this to us

Interesting pics.. I presume they were made 10-15 years ago, as none have a smart phone in them.. Some of them I find truthful, even the ones where a woman is naked (if you haven't done it, you should try, it's liberating). What I do not understand is why the artist painted few of them at home but with their coats on...??

Of course most women are eating like it's a secret. What's honoring is that these little pictures of women are naked while eating. Speaking as a women, I can't say that I say to myself "Hey, I've decided to be naked while eating a piece of cake" Perhaps the minds of men who wish women did stupid s**t like that. I'd love to draw my depictions of what men do in private. I guarantee that it would be extremely more amusing.

I think that these images are at least a little wrong. I do not think that spending from the stereotype of the ordered prissy woman and great cook, the woman stereotype depressed, that does nothing but gorge themselves (each image has the food !!), drinking and living in the casino is just that good. I admit that I developed some images are easily found, but then I do not think it's all at face value.

They eat and sleep, they appear quite depressed, so they prove the point that feminism promotes women unhappiness. Ergo. Ive enjoyed looking through these and can relate to some whilst watching our teenagers. Duvet days or pj days are a way of winding down and really saying I'm not on call today. Yes I laughed at some particularly snuggled up with the dog. Love your style, but please don't do a range with the boys lol.

First, I kinda dislike this one due to the title. "Honest Illustrations Showing What Women Do When No One Is Watching". It felt somehow misled since mostly these illustrates are just showing normal life for basically everyone 😂 Then I read the caption, "The artist wanted to show the natural side of women besides staged Instagram selfies, Snapchat filters, and all the other forms of social media that rule our world". I mean, wow, that's really nice using of metaphor 👏

Looks to me like the artist thinks we are all naked food addicts who do nothing in normal life but eat, sleep, read and are perpetually partially dressed. I do sit in front of the tv more than I should but there is a little more to my alone life than this depicts (I can relate to the dog eating off the spoon though)
