We probably all have a few secrets we’d prefer to keep to ourselves. Maybe we did something that’s just too embarrassing to fess up to, or perhaps it’s a secret that simply cannot get out. Some people will happily take these tales to the grave, never breathing a word to friends, family, or even their partners. But give others an anonymous corner of the internet like Fesshole, a popular X account that shares confessions sent in by strangers, and they’re thrilled to spill.
From cringeworthy mishaps to quietly unhinged deeds, these confessions are equal parts entertaining and uncomfortable—and too good not to share. Keep scrolling to see what people have been getting off their chests lately.

Many of us feel a lot more brazen when we’re behind our screens and keyboards. Think about it: people leave scathing restaurant reviews they’d never say to the chef’s face, get into heated debates with total strangers in the comments, and slide into DMs with a confidence they’d never have IRL. Online, the stakes just feel lower.
Psychologists even have a name for it: the online disinhibition effect. John Suler, the psychology professor who coined the term, explains that people tend to say and do things online that they wouldn’t in person. And a big part of that comes down to anonymity. As a 2026 study points out, research has long linked the two: the more anonymous we feel, the more we’re willing to share.
Our new managing director doesn't do what I say, but he does leave me alone because, apparently, he's scared to talk to me for some reason.
When nobody knows who you are, there’s simply a lot less to lose. And when it comes to secrets, that embarrassing story you’d never tell at a dinner party suddenly doesn’t seem like such a big deal. There’s just one small problem. Most of the internet isn’t very anonymous anymore. Our profiles come with our real names attached, and our coworkers, families, and exes (yikes) are often just a click away.
From what I hear, food banks can sometimes have a lot of waste. Could be that OP’s bank was happier to give something to OP and their imaginary three siblings than let it rot.
Fesshole creator Rob Manuel remembers when the internet felt different. “Using the internet 15 years ago, there was a real freedom about it,” he told Varsity in 2023. “There was only a few people using the internet at the time … your boss wasn’t reading it, your wife wasn’t reading it, your girlfriend wasn’t reading it. It had anonymity even though it wasn’t anonymous.”
These days, he says we’re more likely to self-censor for fear of what a careless post could do to our relationships, reputations, or careers. Fesshole gives people a way around that: an anonymous place to say out loud what they’d otherwise probably be very unlikely to ever admit.
When tradesmen are punctual, knowledgable, efficient, friendly *and* handsome, it's hard not to feel attracted. After all they're so rare, in all categories.
Of course, people have been unburdening themselves for centuries, whether in a confession booth or a diary. And honestly? Not all of that unloading is a bad thing. In fact, psychologist James W. Pennebaker has explained that it can be good for us.
“Any type of open and truthful disclosure reduces stress and helps individuals come to terms with their behavior,” he writes for Scientific American, adding that “It is not coincidental that some of the most powerful people or institutions in many cultures encourage people to confess their transgressions.”
I learned to cook for myself bc of my mom. Note: That is not the same thing as saying she taught me to cook.😄
She taught you self sufficiency. Actually a very useful skill. 😂
Load More Replies...I had to learn to cook at an extremely young age (around 5/6) because my mother would be too hung over on weekends to feed me. Omelettes were my usual because they were easy and you could throw pretty much anything in there.
So sorry you had to do that, but at least it helped you to become independent at an early age
Load More Replies...I learned to cook out of self defense as well - mom was pregnant with first sister and cooking made he nauseous. My stepdad managed to dirty every pot and pan in the kitchen to make mac & cheese... and I was the dishwasher. So I learned to cook so I didn't have to wash so many pots and pans. Has served me well my entire life!
My mom was the WORST cook I've ever known. Just the very basics and never any spices. When I moved out at 17 I learned how to cook and now I am dropping eff food during the week for her and she loves it. I hate t
According to Pennebaker, there’s “very strong evidence that writing about upsetting experiences or dark secrets can benefit your mental and physical well-being.” His research focuses on expressive writing, which, much like religious confession, encourages people to explore their deepest thoughts and feelings about something upsetting. The catch is that it only works if you’re completely honest with yourself.
Sci-Fi and fantasy are excellent substitutes to criticize politics and society in general without directly accusing real life institutions and people.
To be fair, her ancestors were originally bred specifically to fight off wolves, 😂
So why does it help? Pennebaker explains that writing about difficult experiences can change how we see them, making them feel less overwhelming. Once we’ve written about something, we also tend to dwell on it less, which frees up headspace for everything else. He says dozens of studies have even linked expressive writing to less stress, better sleep, and improved cardiovascular function.
A post on here in the last couple of days said Cady Crush only had 4,000 levels. Which is it?
All fun and games until someone calls you out on it and asks you to explain exactly what you mean by that.
Granted, most Fesshole confessions are more chaotic than traumatic, and Pennebaker is clear that this kind of release isn’t a cure-all. Still, as he puts it, “you do not have to be religious to benefit from confession. The underlying mechanisms are available to anyone for the price of a pencil and paper.” Or, in this case, an anonymous corner of the internet.
I will never understand the equations, but now I want to know more about hamster anatomy, and continental drift.
It's a Labrador, what t f did you expect? They're basically a bottomless stomach on legs.
Mine will be foraging. I did a calculation based on the funds i can afford to save and it told me I better start looking for what trash bins to pick at may old age.
Domestic cleaner here. I once had a creepy guy trying to flirt with me and 'accidentally' touch me while I was working (I'm 35, he was easily in his 70's). When I shut him down, he called me a b***h and told me he'd report me to my boss for rudeness and unprofessional conduct. So I did exactly what OP did: cleaned the toilet rim with his toothbrush, and hid used cat litter behind his radiator. Also stole a plant cutting from his Pothos. Fùck you, Stefan!
Welcome to my world. Always nice to know you're not alone.
Or the amount of human shìt pumped into the rivers (if you're talking about Welsh Water anyway 🙄)
"There are two types of people in this world: 1. Those who can extrapolate from incomplete information." Spidercat is the second type.
That's just how it works sometimes. And I bet there isn't a single photo of them all together.
If they are that bad, you may actually be doing them a favour. You only have to watch something like BGT to see how many people have never been told the truth about their ability before.
I love Oasis. There'll never be a Beatles tribute band that even comes close to them.
1) They thought it wasn't that important to ask. 2) You're obviously just as good at your work as they are regardless of what piece of paper you have. I'm very good at my job. I've even trained apprentices...not a single educational or professional qualification to my name.
Why do get the feeling that not only is this not a secret confession but likely something he brags about
My friends won't go to an escape room with me, because they know I'd show up with my stethoscope and lockpicks.
Yeah, if you need to keep your spending a secret like that, it's still a problem.
And do what exactly? - um, come to think of it, I'd rather not know.
This is actually quite sad. Not the getting sober part, of course
I see nothing wrong with this. It sounds like they were generally supportive of the LibDems but didn't like the direction they were going in, so became more involved in the party itself. Maybe more people should do it?
Daddy long legs are not insects and are typically not bothersome
I used to do this with toilet roll when I worked for Amazon. Wasn't even good quality toilet roll, but honestly, fùck Jeff Bezos.
In 1951 I was born 2 months prematurely in a hospital and my mother was too ill to breastfeed me. I was so small I had to be dressed in dolls clothes. The doctor said It was very important that I got breast fed My mother told me later that a nurse had just had a baby and she brought it to work . She wore a sling to carry her baby, so she got another sling as well and alternated feeding her baby and then me. It also meant I could hear her heartbeat which also helped me live.
Lol, it's only a long nail, doesn't mean they weren't clean May do some yayo once in awhile lol
A US friend's 3 year old daughter had a toy phone and was always chatting into it. One day, they realized it sounded didactic and they found her on the real phone, chatting to a sweet little old grandmother in London. The older miscreant knew it was a wrong number but said she hadn't enjoyed such a conversation in years and it had made her day.
I'd rather take my chances with the zombies than live on Pot Noodles.
Unless you're in an open relationship your lovely wife deserves better
Chris Benoit. A truly shocking story of decades steroid abüse combined with serious damage to his brain. What he did was unforgivable but what he was suffering from at the time would likely have been preventable if brain scans were more widely used and medical requirements were stricter.
I can assure every Panda here : this was definitely a thing back in the day...
Anyone who wants to ban log burners will have to pry it from my burnt, d**d hands first
Maybe I'm just old, but I don't have a clue w*f any of these things are
That's horrible. Maybe he was guilty but you weren't paying attention to know that and you sent a man to jail. You should've just admitted you didn't pay attention you lousy b-astard
Back when my wife's parents were both still alive my father-in-law would occasionally gift my wife exercise equipment. When it got to our house its main function was as a clothes rack. I would eventually get rid of it, and he'd send another one. One day when we were visiting at their house my mother-in-law told him she'd like to put a wood deck over their concrete patio. He told her that it wouldn't work because it would cause a drainage problem. She was satisfied with that and went back into the house. I told him that I'd make him a deal. I knew how to make that deck so it would drain okay, but I wouldn't tell his wife that if he would quit giving mine exercise equipment. He agreed.
I don't know if this counts or not, but I might be the only person on BP that thinks that cars (as usual) with pop up headlights like the Lamborghini Countach, De Tomaso Pantera and some Mazdas are cute when they have the headlights up, especially with one closed and one open, like a wink
Of course they're adorable. I have an 1984 Porsche 924. S**y as heck, but the cute factor cannot be contained.
Load More Replies...My gran once gave my aunt a meal in her (my gran's) favorite Tupperware. My aunt somehow managed to nuke the thing in the microwave, it was melted and burnt beyond fixing. She offered me a six-pack if I shoved the thing in the bottom of the trash can, and she'd drive me to the liquor store whenever I wanted if I always confirmed her story that she'd brought the Tupperware back, my gran must've misplaced it somehow. I hate gaslighting but I'm an alcoholic.
I was entertained, until I read your comment.
