Thread Humorously Shows 4 Things That Evolved To Be Non-Edible But Are Still Eaten By Humans
Humans are strange animals there is no doubt about it. While we put other living things in zoos to marvel at their odd behaviors or botanical gardens to observe their unique beauty – our species might fail to realize we are, in fact, the weird ones. From our big brains to our opposable thumbs there are a variety of reasons humans stand out from the rest.
Not only are we as individuals strange, but the way that we interact with the world around us. Someone on Tumblr posted a meme which evolved into a thread which highlights just how bizarre our abilities and limitations are. Imagine trying to explain some of these behaviors to an alien. Scroll down below and add your own hilarious human observations in the comments!
Actually coffee plant have been quite succesful. First caffeine to keep pests away. Then made us as slaves to cultivate it, water it, keep weed away just as an exhange for few berries..
I accept the coffee plant as my lord and master
"Have you ever stopped to think that maybe coffee is addicted to me?" No...Probably, definitely not...The first step to dealing with addiction is to admit that you have an addiction. So, I admit it freely. I'm addicted to coffee in all it's glorious forms! :-)
Even more so for the opium poppy and the coca plant. Entire armies of human will fight and die to ensure the survival of those two species.
Honestly the "humans are space orcs"/"Earth is space Australia" genre of posts are the best thing about the dumpster fire that Tumblr has become. They are always highly amusing, especially the short stories. "You don't know you're from a death world until you leave it", as it were.
Agreed. To paraphrase the 'humans are space orcs' conversation, and to also reveal my nature as a D&D geek... Humans are primarily a DEX/CON build. We're not physically strong compared to most other species even on our own planet, but we can throw things harder and more accurately than anything. Most of the history of warfare boils down to 'find better way to throw bigger thing farther, in smaller package'. And by god, we will eat ANYTHING. Borderline toxic peppers? Food seasoning. Poison that destroys mental processes? Recreational beverage. And then we figured out that you could mix alcohol and chili peppers...
The part about "eating anything" applies to many omnivores, though. Try to impress a mouse or rat with your eating-anything skill...
Agreed :)
Sometimes I think humans are suspicious of or condemn anything we enjoy. If we like it, it must be bad? Maybe it's because we found out tobacco isn't good for you? "Consumption of hot red chili peppers is associated with a 13 percent reduction in total mortality, a large prospective study has found." "New research show coffee improves overall health and longevity whilst fighting obesity." Some things we like are good for us!
My "research" shows eating cake keeps me happy!😊😊
I concur.
aw, this comment though ^^ so cute

When you refer to the consumption of red hot chili peppers, do you mean orally or aurally?
I always find it amusing that we think that aliens would be interested in our planet. I think they would take one look at the f*ing mess we've made of it and say, "I'll pass, thanks".
Sort of unrelated but kind of not cuz coffee buuuut... The end of humanity will be when we lose the rainforests (not if, when) we will no longer have chocolate or coffee... we will not survive. Another reason to save the planet!!!!
They don’t wanna even know what goes on between me and my veggies then
The best thing an animal or plant can do for its own survival is make its produce an important product for humankind.
... and cats have figured out a way to not even have to do that.
Well we do need cuteness. I need my daily dose.
Avocados are toxic to most species
Tide pods.
The juice of poppies doesn't need much preocessing at all - painkillers in the form of one-substance extracted from poppies (isolated natural morphine) are just a bit over 200 years old, while using whole opium as medicine contniued until the early 20th century, and was done for thousands of years ... you won't sleep forever by a reasonable dose of opium, you know, just like a day or so... And as long as skilled people are around and can teach the other ones what to eat and how much to gain specific feelings, it's likely most of the time somewhat safely used...
Awesome thread. So true
Only five reason? ;-P
Beer is NOT just a breakfast drink!
Who eats rotten and fermented grapes? The dude that posted this? Neither raisins nor wine is "rotten and fermented grapes".
Okay, but that's literally how consuming alcohol began
there's a theory that humans are not native to this planet because of things like this. what's deadly to other animals is not to us. We don't live in harmony and balance like very other living thing on this planet. Every other species on this planet doesn't need sunscreen or it'll get cancer. Other species on this planet don't get cancer or heart disease or diabetes at the rates that humans do. it doesn't explain other things but it does make you wonder!
That's a dumb “theory“.
Uh... other animals definitely do get cancer, I'd say part of the reason we are more susceptible to the sun is that our skin isn't protected by scales or thick fur. And there's plenty of things that are harmless for other animals but not to us - e.g. every fruit you see is intended for some kind of animal, even if it isn't edible for humans. Most plants are still eaten by some insects even if they've evolved something that repels many others. And some things are randomly poisonous for humans and randomly not poisonous for other animals: e.g. autumn crocus (a european plant) is deathly for humans while rats cope well even if given a high dosis! (in medical studies trying to find an as-yet non-existing antidote - turns out rats aren't good lab animals for solving that question...)

Also who writes posts with so many mistakes? I find these repulsive! My condolences to the Brits!
