Over two trips to New Zealand, I managed to visit almost every Lord of the Rings filming location on both the North and South islands.

Here are the shots that I was best able to recreate and that lined up with scenes from the movies!

Look at the bark, that is not the same tree. I think this is nuts.

It is unmistakably the same tree. In person, you can also see where Sam was sitting on the roots below.

Makes sense I guess that the Ents would leave a few guards to make sure no one tries to build another tower.

Did they dam the river so it'd be a better pool?

It definitely looks a bit different now but I think it's a combination of the fact that it's more overgrown and some of it in the movie may have been CGI.

It's been an eternity since I've watched the appendicies, but I remember it being freeking cold & poor Andy freezing when he had to be in the water. Maybe the season difference, + nature ever evolving that makes a difference

It's a lot more overgrown since then but it is the same location! They discuss it in the behind the scenes appendices.

One of the places on my go to list where I might actually be able to go. Please remain a democracy with decent people, don't know when I'll actually have the means to visit all the way from Europe...
