“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky made this quote famous, and it has transcended the sporting realm.
It’s an inspiring message that encourages people to take action despite the risk of failure. After all, you never know whether or not success is around the corner unless you try.
However, not all the shots you take deserve recognition, especially if you’re trying to push a particular agenda or pull another person down. It’s the kind of attempts featured on this subreddit, where we lifted the photos you’re about to see as you scroll through.

Late 2000s/early 2010s meme culture gave birth to the phrase “epic fail,” a term many would still likely use to describe the miserable attempts featured on this list. If you came of age at that time or are simply familiar with it, the expression was one of the famous put-downs used to highlight someone’s misfire.

Finding joy in someone else’s misfortunes is what experts refer to as schadenfreude. And according to neuroscientist Dr. Dean Burnett, it is a common emotion resulting from “deeply ingrained processes” in our brain.
In his article for BBC Science, Dr. Burnett explained that it all comes down to social status and how we want others to perceive us. One way to improve that status is to see someone else lower theirs.
To Starve The Wedding Photographer
I was going to say being quick to judge, but she was actually treated like s**t for the entirety of her $250, 10-hour shift in a no AC venue, and told to watch over the kids while they ate.

Of course they don't expect to feed the photographer, staff shouldn't eat on the bride's time /s
Gave you an upvote to negate the downvote. Guess they either didn't see the "sarcasm" indicator at the end, or they truly believe that the photographer shouldn't eat.
Load More Replies...This is why you should have a buffet at your event and plan for a couple of extra mouths to feed...
When my friend and I used to DJ weddings, we were always reserved a plate. Sad overlook on the wedding party's part or just rude people. The help is usually overlooked in situations like this in some way or another.
That should have been sorted when the couple planned how many for food. They likely overlooked him, the dj, the waiters...
Or they made deliberate choice to not feed a contract worker that was probably charging several thousand dollars for his services.
Load More Replies...The host doesn't have to provide the same meal as what the guest are receiving but yes, something should be offered. If I were the photographer, band, DJ, whatever, I'd have this in my contract. Photographers are often working all day; It's only decent to provide foodi
Load More Replies...I fed my photographer, but it's not required. I don't get free food at my work. He's in violation of a contract and can probably be sued for 6 to 7 figures. That is an absolutely horrific thing to do.
Depends on if they had a contract or not, and what was in the contract. Seeing as he was only paid $250, probably not a professional so probably no contract.
Load More Replies...You're supposed to feed the photographer(s), and let them know beforehand.
I did a wedding shoot once, like 5 hours in total. I only charged $200 because I mainly just do shoots for family/friends so technically not a "professional". (I'd love to do it for a living, but hard to get into). They made sure I ate, had breaks, and had water (it was like 100 degrees outside). They even tipped me $200 on top of what they paid me after I got their photos to them.
Who doesn't feed the photographer? I mean you're making him be there all d**n day and night.
This is a tough one because I need more info to decide what happened. Was it discussed that they'd feed the photographer? Because if it was and they agreed then absolutely he should do what he did. But plates at a wedding are expensive and if they didn't have extras and didn't agree to feed him they might be young and have assumed he'd bring his own food or something. So, definitely need more info here.
So I actually read the reddit post that the photographer posted in AITA, 4 years ago. Reddit u/Icy-Reserve6995. This person was treated awfully. Working in 110°F temps, in a hall type venue, with no ac, non-stop for $250. OP even asked for a 20 minute break to get themselves something to eat/drink and the groom threatened to withhold payment. Good read and OP is NTA.
Load More Replies...Ill be the one to say what a d****e this :photographer is. You're there to do a job, not partake in the festivities. If this is a deal breaker then the photographer should add that to their contract up front. Bring a sack lunch next time.
Greedy photographer! He's supposed to be working not eating. That's why he is paid so much!
Needing food and water and a break to consume them is not greedy, it is a human necessity. Just cause someone is paid to do a gig does not mean they give up right to eat--photog just wanted a 20 min break so he could drive somewhere to pick up food and they said they wouldn't pay him. Sorry, but workers are not slaves, they are not machines, they are humans who need rest and nourishment, especially when working.
Load More Replies...That's not the point. Some things you simply DO as a decent person.
Load More Replies...Yes, there is a reason - people get upset when the photographer heads back to their car to eat, and venues that serve food can't usually allow outside food because they can't manage it for food safety
Load More Replies...Would you prefer the photographer left for an hour for their dinner break?

Dr. Burnett clarified that schadenfreude typically only happens when we see someone “deserve it.” We tend not to enjoy the misfortunes of likable people because of another brain tendency he referred to as the “Just World” bias.
“Our brains have evolved to assume that the world is a fair place, even if the actual evidence for this doesn’t stack up,” Dr. Burnett wrote, adding that our brains also positively respond to perceived fairness, like how they do to raised social status.

While it may seem sinister, enjoying another person’s failure has its upsides. According to psychologist Dr. Mark Travers, one benefit is that it reminds people that those who violate social justice will receive their comeuppance.
“It’s like a shot of self-esteem, reminding you that you may not be so bad after all, and that others are worse off,” he wrote.

I think those Jewish space lasers did it. They caused the storm, obviously.
Dr. Travers did mention the downsides of schadenfreude, one of which is draining your empathy reserves. And like all things in life, it all comes down to finding a balance.
“In the future, take a moment to pause and ask yourself why you’re feeling schadenfreude. Is it for the secret self-esteem boost? Or is it maybe a bad habit spiraling out of control?”

I read the comments on Reddit on this and agree that this woman has no idea what is actually going on and could cause serious trouble. I hate flying and had to fly by myself for work and did not want to go. Plus both my dad and husband's dad were sick at the time. I got seated next to a decent looking guy close to my age, 30s, and we made small talk, he was heading to chicago business too and used to work with someone really nice that i did. he was drinking bears and me lots of wine and he helped me not be so nervous. IIRC he was single but it was not flirty. Just 2 people k*****g time and drinking. I told my husband all about him because he was so worried about me because I cried the entire way to the airport. My seatmates home not so great but i wasn't as nervous heading to the airport to go home. She should have minded her business.

So, I just did some research on this because it sounds so horrific. It turns out that all the same restrictions apply equally to all Israelis and Palestinians. These restrictions are part of the Oslo peace agreement, so the Palestinian government agreed to the program. Individuals, whether Palestinian or Israeli, *are* permitted to collect rainwater in buckets on their own property. However, the construction of rainwater collection apparatuses (more complex than buckets) requires a permit *for anyone*. This is because large scale water collection disrupts local agriculture, both in the Palestinian Territories and in Israel.
