Video Of Tesla “Predicting” A Car Crash Seconds Before It Happens Goes Viral
Check out this amazing dashcam footage to see a Tesla car apparently predicting a car crash just seconds before it happened. Realizing that an accident was about to occur on the A2 highway in the Netherlands, the car’s autopilot feature, which assists the car to sense what’s up ahead by utilizing safe-driving-pattern monitoring, triggered the alarm and the emergency braking system moments before the crash unfolded. Despite the high-speed collision however, Hans Noordsij, who recently shared the video on Twitter, confirmed that nobody was serious hurt in the crash.
Tesla is expected to roll out its Enhanced Autopilot before the end of the year. Along with improved accident-avoidance technology, the Autopilot will also feature self-parking and automatic lane-changing capabilities. “The foundation is laid for cars to be fully autonomous at a safety level we believe to be at least twice that of a person, maybe better,” said Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla.

Share on FacebookTechnology such as this already saves lifes and it will save many more lifes in the future. It has also been found that in the Berlin terror attack, the truck might have braked automatically, thereby saving more people from being harmed – different setting, but similar technology. While I am always against technology that patronizes, technology that makes life saver should be welcomed! Considering this video, however, I am wondering why people are driving so freakishly stupid. The actual crash seems to be a chain of bad decisions by several drivers.
I want to know exactly what the car sensed to set the alarm off even before the accident took place. Did it sense the proximity of the two vehicles to each other from that distance? Fascinating!
Autopilot has a set distance which to follow the car. It can detect the tiniest decrease in that distance and react accordingly.

Seriously??? I'm Spanish we would be all shouting very loud, never so calmly
Load More Replies...Mislabeled in a way that is misleading. While not totally wrong, the Tesla does not predict the accident. The accident happened because of the slower car in the left hand lane which the other car tried to pass on the right. Either the long range radar or the camera picked up the slower vehicle (or the other car slowing down) and adapted to the new traffic situation. The technology is absolutely amazing and by all means not proprietary to Tesla but the article is mistitled.
"...the Autopilot will also feature self-parking and automatic lane-changing capabilities" It already has these features in the current v1.0 of autpilot. Autopilot 2.0 will be more advanced and for example be able to follow a set out route all by itself. The current autopilot function is already amazing and indeed able to see whether the car is likely to crash, at which moment it will react to prevent an accident from happening.
look at all of the d***s who drove around parked cars so they could keep going, instead trying to help. shame. :(
Look at all the people who stopped and ran over to help.

Mom used to say that people drive as though they were sitting on their sofas-- a car is a lethal machine-- the DRIVER is RESPONSIBLE for the safety of everyone in front of and behind her/him -- VERY FEW people understand suspension geometry or braking distance or even KNOW if their car is FWD, AWD, front, rear engine, mid engine-- ALL THESE things factor into the way a car handles and behaves-- but the most important thing is THE WAY DRIVERS ACT AND THINK. Most of the time it is VERY STUPIDLY.
I saw it on the news as I live in the Netherlands. I don't know anything about technology but I only trust myself when driving.
Why did you use quotation marks around prediction in your headline? That's what it did. Don't be flip, James.
If you look you can see the brake lights coming on the Two cars in front of the car that tried to change lanes. I suspect the Tesla " reacted " to the brake lights. Good technology, yes, but better training and driver attention to whats going on around them would have avoided the situation.
Just as a secondary pair of eyes to look for dangers and give an alert would be worth investing in the technology
I'm with you. It's hard to believe that a regular driver that sees such crash only talk with such calm. Unless the Tesla driver was a super hero or works as an explosives expert.
