That becomes super obvious when we leave the comfort of our home behind our back and go on vacation. Ask travelers how often they've been in uncomfortable social situations, had weird conversations, and found themselves strangers in a foreign land, and they will tell numerous stories.
Now this Ask Reddit thread has recently gained a lot of attention, amassing a whopping 28.3k comments and 27.8k upvotes. “What things do Americans like and the rest of the world not so much?” someone asked and people started sharing their own experiences, impressions and stories that show us once again just how relative things can be.

It's crazy how much people defend an absolutely terrible system.
Tipping. A way to continue slavery and make it legal to pay staff below the minimum wage.

Opinion signs outside their houses. Like "in this house we support...". I find it weird and unusual.
We have a “Love is Love” sign in our yard, but only because a few houses down from us has a sign that’s pretty much the opposite meaning.
College sports. Particularly football and basketball.
The rest of the world loves soccer, but nobody gives a hoot about it at the university level.

They are oversexualized and it costs way to much to become one. At my school it comes to no less than ONE THOUSAND dollars. And they still have to pay for clothes and trips.
For people making comments about the squads only choosing thin girls, that's changed a lot in years. Larger girls and guys with more muscle are excellent pyramid supports. How else do you expect people to launch a cheerleader into the air 20 ft? Most people just assume all cheerleaders are tiny and thin because it is easier to throw a petite person into the air for stunts.
I have mixed feelings about cheerleaders. Yes, it’s very much a thing that you have to be strong and flexible to do, I respect that, but it’s also (nearly) always young females in short skirts and tight tops supporting male players. I get the athleticism cheerleaders have, but do girls have to basically display their bodies and encourage “manly” athletes? Idk, sorry for rambling, I’m just not sure what to think.
I think part of this has to do with sexism in sports. Football teams are basically for male students. There are exceptions, but they are that, exceptions to the norm. Baseball is male oriented. Women have to play softball.

College cheerleading and All star competitive cheerleading is where the sport is. They require flips and stunts and coordination and actual athleticism. Cheerleaders that cheer for Pro football teams, are eye candy, or dancers. Coming from someone who did competitive cheer for years.
I think it gets overhyped but I see no issue with cheerleaders. Some people take it way too far, just like anything can be.
I did cheerleading for about a 3 years and it actually takes a lot of work ! But if you join late you are going to be forgotten , sadly that happened to me , they don’t include you in much stuff , unless you are super super flexible you get welcomed straight away. I got quite flexible but I still wasn’t included in much things.

Most of the sports injuries at our school used to be cheerleading--because it is a sport and it's dangerous and there are few protections for the cheer leaders.

I have to admit the concept is funny. Yet, when the game dulls or lags they are fun to watch. Not so much the cheers but watch them just milling about not accomplishing much.
I think for American football it makes sense. There's usually nothing happening on the field, so there has to be some way to entertain the audience. I don't understand it for basketball. It's such a fast moving game.

This used to be much more prevalent in the US but food coloring. When I moved from Japan to the US, I was surprised at how colorful their foods were.
These days Americans are now more keen to organic natural stuff so I see it less but it took me a while to realize that blue raspberry is not a real thing.

Comparatively, European countries are much more pro-creditor which severely hampers any sort of investment that's even somewhat risky.

I might get downvoted, but... Kind of wish people would stop complaining about "Americanized" Chinese food. Lots of dishes were invented by Chinese-Americans way back in the early 1900s because of the war. It may not be authentic Chinese food, but it is authentic Chinese-American food.
I'd like to say optimism, even if it's blind sometimes. The CAN DO attitude is extremely strong. I would also put belligerence up there for better or worse. That "Get the f**k out of my face, I'm not paying for / doing that" attitude. Whether you actually can or not, the American culture makes you feel like you can really do anything. Again, it's a double edged sword but you'll seldom find an American who's just going to lay down and take someone's s**t or heed someone who says (to your aspirations) "You can't".

Maybe London, Paris and Berlin are the same, but I spet time working in different cities in Europe, and there's no comparison. NYC has people from the whole world, and yes there's authentic Chinese restaurants there. My university in Virginia has 180 languages spoken on campus. I had friends in uni from Russia, Jamaica, Tajikistan, Turkey, Japan, China, Nigeria, Estonia, Colombia the list goes on. It's why I can curse at you in 15 languages. Best part of the USA, imo
