It's definitely a sport and takes a lot of athleticism. People train from an early age to be on cheer squads.

For people making comments about the squads only choosing thin girls, that's changed a lot in years. Larger girls and guys with more muscle are excellent pyramid supports. How else do you expect people to launch a cheerleader into the air 20 ft? Most people just assume all cheerleaders are tiny and thin because it is easier to throw a petite person into the air for stunts.

They get paid pennies. that's the worst part. my cousin-in-law is a cheerleader for an nfl team. she could never did to live in Philadelphia without her trust fund.

It's harder than it looks

Fans are usually more energized than them.

Gives fans something to watch when what's going on the field is boring.

College cheerleading and All star competitive cheerleading is where the sport is. They require flips and stunts and coordination and actual athleticism. Cheerleaders that cheer for Pro football teams, are eye candy, or dancers. Coming from someone who did competitive cheer for years.

I think it gets overhyped but I see no issue with cheerleaders. Some people take it way too far, just like anything can be.

Jealous

Some of the contempt against cheerleading is due to it being primarily associated with girls and women

I've seen female cheerleaders with pom poms at Russian and Korean sporting events.

AND THE HUMAN PYRAMID!

Most of the sports injuries at our school used to be cheerleading--because it is a sport and it's dangerous and there are few protections for the cheer leaders.

I have to admit the concept is funny. Yet, when the game dulls or lags they are fun to watch. Not so much the cheers but watch them just milling about not accomplishing much.

Soooo accurate! I work 50 minutes away from where I live (41 miles). Public transit isn’t an option. Even for close shopping… it’s not an option. The nearest bus line is 4 miles away.

You can’t put bones, meat, eggshells, or very fibrous fruits and veggies into the disposal. You can break the disposal or damage sewer lines.
