The 2018 Siena International Photo Awards has received 48,000 submissions from the best photographers in 156 countries, and the judges have had an incredibly hard time deciding the winners. Nonetheless, the best pictures of 2018 have been decided, and just like in 2017 and 2016, their cool images show just how diverse our beautiful world really is.

Every year, the competition includes a special category. This time, it was entitled Splash of Colors, seeking out excellent color compositions. In total, the famous photographers competed in 11 categories, ranging from stunning landscapes to subtle portraits and cool photos of dramatic sports moments. The grand prize, the Photo of the Year award, went to Bangladeshi photographer K. M. Asad for his shot Battle Victim. Asad has been documenting the plight of the persecuted Rohingya in Myanmar for six years now, and the best photography of a young Rohingya refugee perfectly portrays the terrible human tragedy unfolding there.

I encountered this fox scavenging a Caribou's carcass on the coastal plains of Alaska's Arctic. I spent two hours slowly approaching it until I took this picture from six feet away, as she finished her meal. It was a surreal and unforgettable experience and a rare opportunity to be accepted into a wild animal's existence for a few special hours

The Twins' Gymnastics Dream, China (3rd Place In Story-Telling Category)

The Twins' Gymnastics Dream, China (3rd Place In Story-Telling Category)

When I discovered these twins at a gymnastics school, I decided to capture their telepathic coordination, mutual assistance and dependence on each other in daily training. I also focused on capturing their individual differences performed in training, particularly in simple mandatory movements. I worked hard to find and capture their differences in the hope of unveiling the characteristics and forms of twins in competitive sports. The photos were mainly taken at a gymnastics school in Jining City, China. The two children were born in 2007. Their names are Liu Bingqing and Liu Yujie. 1、Before training, Liu Bingqing and Liu Yujie were running along the corridor. 2、Liu Bingqing was doing gymnastics with the help of the coach and was clearly suffering. 3、The twins were training in simple movements on the horizontal bar

You haven't spent much time in an American Olympic Gymnastics training center to know. This is the normal pain and suffering these athletes go through in order to be champions. It's the same pain that Ballerinas experience, body builders experience and multitudes of other types of sports categories. If you think that training to be a champion is all rainbows and skittles..you're sadly mistaken. When I found out what pain I would have to endure to be a gymnast, I dropped out of the program. But other girls and boys were more than happy to endure the torture if it meant eventually getting the gold. Some have what it takes..some don't. Just because the child is tearing up from pain doesn't mean he's not yelling to his coach "Keep going!"

This is why I am not a fan of professional sports of any kind, be that the Olympics or whatever. What you are seeing in any sport once you get to a high enough level is people sacrificing a lot in their lives, including ruining their bodies. Modern gladiators if you will.

This looks more like child abuse , than sport. I wonder if they actually get a choice in what they want to do at the age of 11. The parents are high achieving and expect their children to also. But this just looks cried and uncalled for. I’ve also read that parents breed their children from conception. Ridiculous !

I think they are girls... It never refers to a gender but they are wearing feminine gymnastic attire. Males usually wear a different style, I believe. And not that it matters or is necessarily telling, but the words on the outfits are in pinks and 'girl' colors. Anyone know for sure?

Isabella

Because there is only one other way for these children - dying from starvation. Poor families often choose to send the most endure kid to a sports school in hope for them to become a winning medallist at the Olympics. Also - in every Western gymnastic training it looks exactly the same, except it is in a prettier building. It HURTS A LOT to practice gymnastics! You have to push over and break your own body limits. And yes, kiddos often cry. But then they want to go back as soon as they see how much they've improved. Faint-hearted will not succeed in sports.

Run run run as fast as you can so the trainer cannot catch you. "I am not going to cry or scream because I want to do this better than my twin". "Five six seven eight, kick your feet because we are China and China we are great!" If you tell an American child to do all this stuff you may get the finger. Tell a well mannered Chinese child to do these things and they will laugh and do their best of best.

The children should be allowed to be children! Looks like abuse to me. China is an evil empire!

Compassion to people and animals is rare in that country. Very sad to know they’d torture a child for Olympic recognition. HONOR and INTEGRITY should be Olympic events.

When there are tears streaming down a young child's face because of the pain from an adult, isn't that could abuse?
