Cinema today is invaded by computer graphics: several special effects that were previously done manually, with the use of professional makeup, animatronics, and costumes, today are solved with the good old chroma key and clothes to capture movements.

Of course, today's effects are indispensable and work wonders for the richest movies, but many incredible works are still done with the use of body paintings, prostheses, and other special effects makeup creations.

Until the 1980s, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, responsible for the Oscars, did not award these talented makeup artists. The first makeup looks awarded with a statuette was Rick Baker's for the film An American Werewolf in London (1981).

The Prosthetic Renaissance company is constantly called to work on movies and TV series and their SFX makeup imprint.
