School Calls Mom After Her Daughter Hits Another Student, But Mom’s Reaction Surprises Them

No parent wants to get a call from school informing them that their child has punched another student. But as you can see from this anecdotal story, not everything is as black and white as it might first appear. Because even though this girl did indeed assault another student, there are two sides to every story. The anecdote contains a valuable lesson about respect while also serving to remind us of how right and wrong aren’t always so easily defined.

I think the mother did react absolutely perfect. Yes, one might say, that hitting someone never is a solution, but subordination and being abused neither. The fault isn't the daughter’s reaction, but the teacher who didn't react on it. The least he could've done was talking to the boy. Telling someone to ignore, when another person treats you wrong, isn't a solution. It's a shame. We talk a lot about mobbing and things like this, but to prevent it you must act. Especially as the person in charge. And I am pretty sure, that the boy learned his lesson. Again, violence shouldn't be the way to handle conflicts, but if there's no other option left, it's still better, then letting someone treat you like this. As a father of three girls myself, I always told my daugthers to stand up for themselves. If someone treats you with disrespect, then you don't need to treat him with respect either. And yes, there are boundaries. Especially with the kind of behavior the boy showed in the story above.
Worse, the teacher CHOSE to ignore it, the school officials CHOSE to protect the boy who committed sexual assault, and worse, they CHOSE to punish and humiliate the girl by forcing her to sit in the same room with both the kid, his parents, the teacher, and the officials - all telling her that she did something wrong for defending herself. Sadly, this garbage happens all the time.
It's very sad that it does. This reminds me of the show I just finished, 13 reasons why. Those people are supposed to help children, no matter the case. Instead they teach them wrongly.
It is a Catholic school and as we all know, covering up sexual assaults/ advances, is most definitely what Catholics Excel at?!!?

I agree with everything you said, except with this: "If someone treats you with disrespect, then you don't need to treat him with respect either." In my opinion, respect and love is something that should not be earned or put on a scale. They should be without condition. I'm not saying that if someone reats you with disrespect, you should treat them as your best friend. But you can still respect them as what they are. A human being, and like myself full of flaws.

How can you say hitting is never the solution when obviously it is?? He wouldn't stop aggravating her so she hit him and he stopped. THAT is a solution. Are you an idiot?? I don't buy for a minute the sexual assault B/S though. Women want the right to breast feed in public and walk a beach without a top arguing that breasts aren't sex organs, then they want to prosecute a man who touches their "sexual organs" (breast). How was there no other options? How about getting out of the classroom and calling the police? You seriously tell your daughter it is better to start kicking aggressive men bigger and stronger than them instead of calling the cops? This is seriously a good idea in your father of 3 daughters head? No wonder there are so many rapes out there.
Sorry, but you are just making up assumptions and nothing more. What makes you think, that she has been able to just go away and call the police? Maybe she just couldn’t leave the classroom or wasn't able to think of anything different, then getting out of the situation by kicking the guy? Especially after the one person who should have helped her, the teacher, rejected her? Not to mention, that it not only happened just once, that the police took too long or didn't even react. Your allegation regarding me, leaving my daughters with nothing but getting raped, is just horrible and wrong. In fact, it is arrogant as hell. I rather raise my children as being able to defend their self, as leave them with no other choice than running away. Which in fact isn't even possible in most conflict situations. My daughters know how defend themselves. All of them visited self-defense trainings. Of course, we told them to search for help and call the cops. But that is only one option.

The teacher should have stepped up when it was first brought up, that is the point of authority that should have been involved, not the police. As awful as this situation is, the boy is a kid and the issue lies with the people the brought him up and the teachers that do nothing when this happens. He probably saw it as 'teasing' or flirting than sexual assault. Every father SHOULD teach their daughters to fight off their aggressor. I think you'll find when someone is getting assaulted, they hardly have the time to just 'call the police'. In the same way, boys should be taught the difference between teasing and being stupid trying to flirt and when 'no' mean 'no'.
We need more parents like this daughter has!! That school was ready to throw that girl to the wolves for defending herself. How many parents would have the fortitude to turn the tables? Bravo Mom, you are a hero and an inspiration!!

BRAVO!! They thought they would be making her daughter look bad, and had it all turned around. But this 'no nonsense' mom immediately recognized what was going on, and put everyone in their proper place. Her daughter is a "Chip Off The Old Block", and has learned her lesson well.
So sorry you and your daughter had to experience this. Thank you for defending your daughter when no one else would.
And even more importantly she learned to trust at last one of the adults in her life, recognizing that her mother has got her back no matter what. There are some parents who would've simply gone along with it and chastised the daughter for defending herself. I'm glad this mom didn't do that. My mums the same way. She always trusted me and had my back.
