People Are Having Hard Time Believing This Cake Isn’t Real Raw Turkey
Some call her the baker from hell, others – a diabolical genius, but one thing is for sure – Sarah Hardy has one hell of a talent. This British baker has the most unique, goriest, craziest, and weirdest chocolate and cake ideas you’ve ever seen. Do you want chocolate that looks like a human brain? You got it! Fancy something sweet that looks just like a pig’s heart? Call Sarah! “I love what I do. I get to be curious and create intriguing things out of delicious chocolate and this makes me happy. I get to make things that look like things that aren’t tasty… and then they are tasty. It’s a definite thing,” Sarah writes on her official page The Edible Museum.
Although Sarah Hardy’s name has been known for a long time to those that are into baking, she just recently went viral with her raw turkey cake. It sounds just as it looks – pretty revolting, but, God, oh-so-cool! “I used to be a sculptor and when I had children I stopped being able to work in the way I had – eventually it just popped out in edible art form because with kids you get to have birthday parties for which you get to make beautiful cakes. I do love a celebration!” Sarah told Bored Panda.

As you probably already figured out, this turkey is not what it seems, because this slightly repulsive-looking raw bird is actually a meticulously decorated cake. This realistic artwork is made from four layers of sponge layered with buttercream icing that gives the cake a realistic pinkish skin tone. “Honestly, I was making weird stuff all the way through my life – you should see some of my teenage sculptures with hair sprouting out of vertebrae and bulbous stretchy feet. But the real reason it got ‘odd’ was probably frustration. I had been making wedding cakes, trying to make real, proper cakes. And I started to add the odd brown petal or insect to the beautiful sugar flowers. I don’t even know if all the brides knew…
Then finally I was fed up with making food art that looked like what other top designers were doing and made something more akin to a Dutch still life with snails crawling all over – I also love still life and Moments Mori. Beauty and death altogether,” Sarah told us.
It looks like one, but it’s actually a delicious (we assume) cake

“When you’re buying chocolate or a cool cake, you tend to be giving it to someone as a present and you want to give them an experience, not just a taste experience but the experience of surprise and a little bit of joy as well. But most of the creative ideas are just things that I love. I’m just interested in natural history, internal organs, historical artifacts. If I like it and it’s cool, I’ll just make it edible,” the baker told Art Insider.

The 3D artwork not only looks amazing, but it is actually (and understandably) quite hard to make. The process of making one can take days and would cost over $600 to order. “I love being called a genius!” Sarah told Bored Panda. “But it’s not true, I just have funny ideas and am prepared to fiddle for ages until I get the right effect. Many people don’t understand why one would want to make something that looks like a raw turkey… it is admittedly not for everyone.”
One of which is this raw turkey cake

To give the impression of plucked skin, Sarah makes small dots of marzipan all over the cake. It is the final layer on the turkey, after which Sarah puts a string around the turkey’s legs and paints some more details with a food dye. Just before serving, a syrup is glazed on the cake to give it a shiny appearance. If you’d like to make this cake yourself, here’s a link to a tutorial and a video as well.

Share on FacebookIncredibly well done. Other people are making horrible comments, but fail to see that this is clever and funny. I certainly wouldn’t fancy eating a raw turkey, but discovering that it’s really a cake would be the loveliest surprise.
Plus it was a project she took on, and you can't always say no to customers. I too see nothing wrong with this cake
Load More Replies...The turkey was SO realistic. This is the definition of spectacular.
Fantastic. To bring that out when serving dinner? Brilliant. The remarks were harsh for what's a joke.
This is absolutely beautiful work! but it would take a lot of work to get me to eat something that i thought was still raw.. XD
I don't get why people are mad? Yes, it is kind of an annoying prank to think you are being served raw turkey, but c'mon, it's so realistic! Its such talent and she deserves praise, especially considering how hard it must be to make a cake like that!
This is amazing! I LOVE it. I just had to laugh because it would be perfect for Thanksgiving... if the baker wasn't in the UK. :D
I'd laugh, give her rattings, most likely clap and give her a standing ovation, but as soon as I'd try it I'd probably gag and find it tasty at the same time. The internal fight is real.
Same. That sums up exactly how I feel about it. Incredibly impressive talent, but the subject matter makes me queasy.
Load More Replies...Incredible and amazing. I don't think I could eat it, though, too visually unappealing.
So lifelike. Serious talent. Spend hours on this just to get rude comments. SMH
I think it is awesome ! and looks easy to make ...my kids love to cook ones a chef another a baker and 2 more who grew up working around food .... I'm half tempted to do this myself lmao !
I somehow don't think this would be quite that easy to make
Load More Replies...Love it. I would totally dig in. And I'd take pictures so it looked like a bunch of us were eating raw turkey.
Well done, but I would not go as far as to say you can mistake it for the real thing. Just look at the skin texture.
I love to bake, but could never come close to being able to create this masterpiece! Beautiful and very realistic!! There are always people who just never have a kind comment to make. Jealousy, I think.
As I love making cake. I admired your work. It's amazing and I make sure u can test someone who has a gutts to slice it and think to eat a raw turkey which isn't good but surprisingly it is amazing she only those people can notice that who loves an art
I love it wish i had the talent to do something like this This is Awesome and she did a stupendous job
You have an amazing talent to create a cake that looks exactly like raw turkey. We eat first with our eyes and I have an incredibly strong stomach but I couldn't eat that! You got me!!
Great job. I assume there was a reason for making a cake look like a raw turkey rather than a roasted one? I'm guessing the customer had plans for that!
Well..I would rather have the cace, even with that look. Turkeys are boring. But a ham or chicken is more welcome!
As I said in a different context: whomever made this cake is an a-hole. A GENIUS a-hole, but still a a-hole.
