American Complains About Immigrants, Gets Destroyed After Someone Explains He’s Also An Immigrant
President Donald Trump and his administration have made their stance on immigrants quite clear, from racist rhetoric to the border wall. Most recently his administration proposed a significant increase in the time it takes for illegal immigrants or asylum-seekers to become eligible to receive a work permit — essentially doubling it from 180 days to 365 days. While many people understand those asylum seekers are escaping dangerous situations back in their home countries, others view this situation as a full-blown migrant crisis – like this Twitter user.
User @DFBHarvard tweeted out an explanation of immigration that compared immigrants to home invaders, while some may support his stance, another internet user was quick to call him out on the racism-filled post using his own analogy.
Twitter user Daniel Baranowski went viral for his racist tweet on immigration – but another user found the perfect way to shut him down

Baranowski is a retired professor in Healthcare Management & Policy as well as a conservative Trump supporter. Despite listing himself as a historian in his bio, the former professor received a history lesson in “home invasion” and racism in America from user @BitchWithA_W who served him the best comeback on his own argument.

Wampanoag means People of the First Light. They have inhabited the east coast of what is now Cape Cod and the islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, to as far as Bristol and Warren, Rhode Island for more than 12,000 years. Today there are about 4,000-5,000 Wampanoag living in New England. The Wampanoag have three primary groups – Mashpee, Aquinnah, and Manomet. The Mashpee Wampanoag were re-acknowledged as a federally recognized tribe in 2007, and in 2015 the federal government declared 150 acres of land in Mashpee and 170 acres of land in Taunton as the Tribe’s initial reservation, on which the Tribe can exercise its full tribal sovereignty rights.
This Twitter user was not the only person to call out Baranowski on racial discrimination. Someone did some digging and found that he had some immigrant roots of his own.

Journalist and genealogist, Jennifer Mendelsohn found and posted census records that showed the former professor’s great-grandfather was a Polish immigrant who, when he arrived, reportedly spoke no English. Polish immigration to the U.S exploded at the turn of the 20th-century due to imperial repression, land shortages, and chronic unemployment. The 1910 census recorded more than 900,000 new immigrants who spoke Polish. It is estimated that more than 2 million Poles had immigrated to the country by the 1920s.
Mendelsohn, an expert in genealogy, told Bored Panda she sees very few differences between the cause of immigration in generations past and now: “America has always prided itself on being a place that welcomed people looking for opportunity and/or to escape hardships and oppression. What also hasn’t changed is the demonization of immigrants and the mythologizing that immigrants of past generations were somehow better or more desirable.”
People in the comments were quick to point out all the flaws in the racist analogy
Baranowski’s hypocritical stance is not new according to the researcher, “This is an old American tradition, going back to Benjamin Franklin’s 1751 essay complaining about the Germans, with their “swarthy” complexions and how they would never learn to speak English or properly assimilate,” Mendelsohn explained, “The group that’s already in always seems to want to forget where they came from and shut the door on the next.”
English was not always a requirement for the citizenship process, “The requirement to speak English in order to be naturalized was instituted as part of the Naturalization Act of 1906,” she said. President Theodore Roosevelt was the one who revised the Naturalization Act of 1870 and added the requirement that immigrants learn English in order to be naturalized citizens. This bill was passed on June 29, 1906, and took effect on September 27, 1906.

Agreed, people should not be blamed for what their ancestors did. Otherwise we would be hating the Italians for the slavery and conquering their ancestors did. However, there is nothing wrong with being sensitive to the fact that one's ancestors were less than squeaky-clean. Especially before opening one's metaphorical mouth and putting a dirty great foot in it. Politicians; proving their stupidity since time immemorial.
It's not a matter of blaming people for what their ancestors did, it's a matter of, in the U.S., unless you are Native American, you are an immigrant with no standing to keep out other immigrants. I think many Americans are just afraid that karma is coming knocking.
Load More Replies...The problem is that Americans are not complaining about ALL immigrants, only the non-white ones. His great grandad was a white EUROPEAN immigrant, so that's ok. But if the immigrant is/was from any non-white origin, then you complain...
I would say that they only acept white immigrants from percieved 'rich' countries, as Uk, Sweden, France etc. But yes, its mostly a racism problem, as a white migrant in europe I get s**t but nothing compared to what my colleagues with 'browner skin' get...
Load More Replies...It is true that the people alive today aren't to blame for the past, but I do believe we all have a responsibility to move forward with the knowledge of the despicable treatment of the native populations in North America at the hands of governmental policy and understand the historical trauma that was inflicted upon them. It is up to us to be educated about the history of our country and to acknowledge past mistakes so we don't repeat them.
Here's a better analogy: You hear someone knocking on your door. When you open it, you see a group of dirty, exhausted people—men, women, children. They might be a family group, they might not. Somehow, they are able to explain that a gang of thugs took over their neighborhood. Women and girls were beaten and raped. Men and boys were forced to do illegal work and threatened with horrific tortures if they balked. All of the people have injuries, some just a haunted look in their eyes. They want to live on your property. They'll work in the yard, plant a garden and produce food, clean your house, and live in the crawl space under the house or in a tent in the backyard. They'll accept gratefully whatever crumbs from your table you're willing to share. Will you let them stay? Or will you forcibly return them to certain torture and death?
Can I upvote you more? :) But sadly enough some people lacks somuch empathy that would close the door and send them back to be raped, tortured and killed :(

It's gotten to the point where politicians, media, and average people on both sides are treating the issue as "all or nothing," when that's not the case. The focus needs to return to ILLEGAL immigration and policy reform, instead of just slapping another band-aid on the problem. Unfortunately, our politicians are too busy acting like toddlers who are past their naptime.
A stranger who doesn't speak English breaks into your home. A lot of modern Americans seem to forget that 'their' beloved country was populated by native Americans for thousands of years before the Pilgrims arrived.
That is an important and valid point. I think we should look to the example of the first nations when we talk about the consequences of unchecked immigration. Almost every extant population is dominant in their territory because they displaced the previous occupants. And every current population is either in the process of being displaced, displacing another group, or actively resisting displacement. Or a combination of those. And native Americans are not one people. They were many nations, who frequently raided or genocided their neighbors.

"Shoplifter" is a slur. They are just a different kind of shopper. And without shoppers, retail would not even be possible.
As a legal and documented immigrant, I'll have to correct that original text. A stranger who's interested in learning your language knocks on your door. I think legal immigration is fine. I do believe immigrants should work jobs. I dont believe illegal immigrants should be given social service benefits. This is happening around the country. Some groups are using benefits for months and doing side jobs. So not only illegal, not paying taxes. This handout program to non citizens encourages more illegal immigrants. If this were stopped they would be forced to work or leave.
300 years ago the USA was founded, borders were created, laws were made. The person who made the original post was not born prior to the creation of USA borders, therefore he himself is not an immigrant by definition of the word as he did not move in his lifetime to another country to live there. Some of his ancestors were immigrants. He is correctly stating what illegal immigrants are doing today in our country. Those who call him racist are people who don't know the definition of racism. America belongs to many races that are here legally, many of whom never had ancestors who came here during settlement times and destroyed Indians who were already destroying each other through warfare, rape, and violence. The colonists came, and then the Native Americans lost. This country has greatness and those who are citizens today of this country, should not feel ashamed for wanting to protect it from illegal immigration.
So there was no emigration to the USA since it was created? Because if am not mistaken a lot of immigration occured betwen the 19th and 29th centuries (when the borders of USA were very well stablished)

Load More Replies...there is a difference between being an immigrant looking for the free life who works hard and pays for everything he has.. and an illegal immigrant who comes here looking for the freebie life. there are more ways to learn English now than there were back in the early 1900's. My grandfather came here from Germany. (my mom is 90) lived in northwest Illinois. he couldn't afford a car. walked to work every single day no matter the weather. he paid for his home and everything his wife and children needed without government assistance. THAT is a true immigrant. blaming people alive today for the deaths of Indians..etc..is like blaming whites today for slavery. no one today killed an Indian and no one today owned a slave.
Almost guaranteed that somewhere back up the line your ancestors were shagging a cousin or having the neighbors for dinner - not to dinner but for dinner. Immigration battle would come to an end if we could trade one-I-was-born-here-so-I-belong-here free-loading non-productive spouse beating irresponsible parent addict for one immigrant who comes into the country ready to become a contributor to - not a taker from - our society. If you pay your own way it doesn't matter much to me which side of the great divide you dwell but if you're supported by my money laundered through the government by the process called taxation, you can go on the list of those to be traded for a responsible immigrant.
I would love it it BP declared a moratorium on anyone getting 'destroyed' online. Very overused.
Especially when the article does not show that, unlike the one last year with the military man who absolutely destroyed a woman who called him soft because he didn't like the thought of arming teachers. He laid out a comprehensive argument and did "destroy", but you are right that 99% of the time it's shiite.

That is not true. Europe has a huge history of migration. Now people come from Syria, Venezuela or Poland Before germans, belgium, irish, british, spanish imigrated due to war, famine or poverty. Where is the difference? Other countries recieved them with open arms. Why cant we do that now?

My boyfriend was born in Belgium (and he is white) and had no problem at all to get the working permit. How is that not racism, discriminatory and islamophoboc?

They dont have a bigest problem, they have a right wing pushing this idea to get votes and to propagate their racist laws.

Try "illegal" immigrants. The lefties keep trying to leave that word off. It does change the definition.

Boring Panda is going above and beyond to attack whoever disagrees with their left wing ideals. It's not about immigration. It's about ILLEGAL immigration. This wonderful country accepts hundreds of thousands of legal immigrants every month. You guys keep complaining of a few illegals deported or a person who supports law enforcenment
What about him denying visas and traveling permits to people with arabian origins? Thats plainly racism and islamophobia.
Load More Replies...Donald Trump is talking about ILLEGAL immigration. You know he married not one but two immigrants, right? That our First Lady is the first first-generation immigrant First Lady since the Founders? GTFO with these blatantly partisan political c**p pieces.

Load More Replies...Lol liberals love to label anyone who does not get inline with their ideology a racist..... pathetic
Not quite as pathetic as labeling an entire group of people and claiming they're all one way.
Load More Replies...I've had two of those! They came into my house, didn't speak English, screamed at me all the time, made outrageous demands 24/7, ate all my food, are using all my money....I call them children. But I sure wanted to send them back, too! LOL!
Having border control is one thing, claiming immigrants are coming to break into your home and steal your money is racist.
Load More Replies...You are not an immigrant but your family history of immigration should give you a empathic point of view of the bad situation that immigranra come from. Your family migrated to your country, why shouldnt other families do the same?
Load More Replies...But that's an entirely different story. A house is entirely different than a whole country. And when have you ever provided food and shelter for an immigrant?
Load More Replies...So suspend the rules for white people, then reinstate them once white people have it all set up.
