My name is Mari Takabayashi and I am an author and picture book artist. I was born in Tokyo Japan and now live in Brooklyn NY with my family.
Two years ago, we made the big decision to adopt a black Shiba Inu, even though I had never owned a pet. Once Bella joined our family, we soon found out that living with a dog brings so much joy, I cannot imagine my life without her!
Once Bella joined the family, I started to draw and paint her in watercolors. A friend saw my portrait of Bella and asked me to create a portrait of her pet including her portrait too. I never dreamed that I would enjoy painting portraits of pets and their owners.
I have been making picture books more than 25 years and created over 50 books. Painting pet portraits is new and fresh for me. I feel so lucky that my Bella is part of my family now and because of this, she brought me to this happy business.
