Parents Tattoo Their Legs With Daughter’s Birthmark So She Won’t Feel Different
Large and obvious birthmarks can make school life hard for children, but a couple of caring parents in the UK have found a controversial way to combat this issue. Tanya and Adam Phillips got huge tattoos stretching up their right legs to match the birthmark that their 18-month-old daughter, Honey-Rae, has on her leg.
Read on to get more of the story, and then let us know what you think about their decision in the comments!

“Although in our eyes she was perfect, I knew people would cruelly point and stare at her”
“I was stood at a check out till, when I saw an old couple whispering and staring at Honey-Rae’s leg. I was distraught. It was first time I had taken her out without covering her up and it confirmed all my worries and fears. People are cruel without even realising”
“We had talked about having duplicate tattoos done for a little while but that day my mind was made up”
“When the swelling went down, I showed Honey-Rae, and she gently touched it and smiled as she said ‘Match,’ pointing to her own leg. If I’d have needed any reassurance that I’d made the right decision that was it”

Share on FacebookI think this is showing the parents true love to their child! It shows their are different people but also the fact that she is not alone!
I have a large port wine covering half my chin. People could not resist pointing it out every time I was in public. What amazing parents!
People are so ridiculous. How would THEY like it if people pointed and whispered?? If you notice something different, keep it to yourself!!

it's a bit overboard, how about teaching her that people are different and she needs to deal with it as she grows up?
It will forever be a symbol that her parents had her back. She'll learn plenty of harsh lessons outside the home. Big dumb world that it is.

Amazing and deeply moving. I normally hate tattoos but the pictures of objects either seen or imagined byva child are truly precious.
I think that this is wonderful. And also, if they wanted to do both teach her about being diffrent and the tatto, they can. I would do this!
Whilst I think what they have done has felt right for them, I think we need to deal more with the unacceptable attitude towards it
What a beautiful story. I love these parents for doing this......every parent should....
if it were permanent, maybe but most strawberry birth marks are laser removable, she may want to remove them when she's older & now U can't
as a kid that suffered for having a much worse skin problem, this was terrible. the sooner she gets that the issue isn't w/ her, the better
I met my bff when we were 11, and became inseparable immediately.. 5 yrs later a fairly new addition to our group of friends asked me about the port wine mark on her face. I had no clue what she was talking about. When I saw her next, I saw the mark but I never remembered it before, and I asked her about it. She said she'd had it from birth, and used to be self conscious about it, but I never mentioned it or stared at it, and when I gave her a makeover once (she never wore make up and I was curious) she said that when I started I looked at her face close and said that she had porcelain skin and didn't need foundation. She said after that, she stopped thinking everyone was staring at it. It's been 23 years since we met and she's still my bff, but we're in different states now and don't get to see her that often. Writing this now, I can see her beautiful porcelain skin, but I wasn't able to remember which side has the mark. This girl is beautiful too, and lucky to have loving parents...
I have severe eczema in fact I have seen several dermatologist and am seeing the best dermatologist in the United States. I love this family and little girl and love the family she had
I think they did the best thing they could do... I love this so much it made me smile and if I was the parents I would have done the same!!!
I find it very hard to believe that anyone pointed and whispered about birthmarks on a toddler's legs. These usually fade as they age. Hmm.
These kinds of birthmarks are easily removed with laser or IPL treatments, for around the cost of tattoos the size her parents got.
How beautiful is that? Thank you for sharing how awesome some parents are.
That is stupid because there was nothing wrong with the little girl in the first place !!!
This is so sweet! I wish my parents did this for me; I am the only one with an exception of my twins, who has blonde hair in my family.
Love makes us all do weird and wonderful things. In this case, I think it was a wonderful thing to make her feel comfortable in her skin...
You both deserve the "Parents Of The Year Award" totally amazing.
Definitely a big like good job Mum and Dad you already have the approval of the only one who really matters and that's your kid
They could've just removed her birthmarks. My son had the same thing. The removal was painless and cost less than a tattoo.
Your both really wonderful... I hope everyone worldwide gets to see this story and your showing us all how loving parents should be.
beautiful!! that's the true meaning of love and being a parents. we'll do anything for or kids.
aww that was really nice of the parent and sure enough there are many people who like to judge others
Pure of heart but you could have had a tattoo in her flesh color to cover her. I have seen people with port wine scars that had it done.
My sister has strawberries on her legs too. We never thought more than it looked like strawberries and that's what we called it.
Dare we hope something like this developing product might be adaptable to treating birthmarks, as well?: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/no
Are you a mixed race couple ? That marking looks like a Blue Spot which is common in mixed race children .It will fade if it is .
There is absolutely nothing wrong with her. And I believe Parents bit exaggerated their daughters condition! I have same birthmark on arm!
I wouldn't worry about what other people think - thats a better lesson!
such awesome parents. this little angel is so lucky to be raised with mom and dad like these two!!! beyond words.. <3
Tears came to my eyes the moment I read the caption matching the photograph. Well done Mom and Dad.
I think that they should go to Cynosure and have the birthmarks removed and the tattoos too! Their products work 100%
I think they should check out Cynosure laser which removes all birthmarks and tattoos.
I don't mean to sound like a prick but it looks like a false sense of security to me.
I think people are more likely to take the p**s for her being called "Honey-Rae"
Honey-Rae will know how much her parents love her to endure the pain from those tattoos just so she would have some normalcy at home.GREAT!!
That goes to show you that parents will go above and beyond for their kids. It can't get any better then that. I'd do the same for mine.
Each to their own. I personally wouldnt go to that extreme but i have 2 physically normal children so who knows what i would do tbf.........
That is awesome... Makes me want to go get it to show support against bullying...
I think that they are supporting and loving her the best way they know how. Good on them.
