Some people are so desperate for love, attention, and likes that they’re willing to do practically anything to draw in the crowd on social media. The sad fact is that some folks out themselves as bad parents when they take to humiliating their own kids for clicks. It’s worse than it sounds, dear Pandas.
We’ve collected some of the most egregious cases of horrible parents making fun of their children, as shared on the 2.1-million-member strong ‘Insane People Facebook’ subreddit. Of course, everyone’s sensitive information is kept private to protect them. But the posts show the very low lows that some folks stoop to just to impress… well, we’re not really sure who they’re trying to impress with such despicable behavior, really. Warning: some of these pics deal with neglectful parents and might make you uncomfortable or anxious if you have experienced anything like this yourself.

The moderators running the 'Insane People Facebook' subreddit spoke to Bored Panda about how some people fixate on getting attention on social media far too much.
"If social media causes you to neglect important aspects of your life, like work, family, friendships, health, then you have a problem. If it's causing you emotional grief or becomes the central focus of your life then it's a problem," they warned what folks should look at to see if they need to dial back and reprioritize.

On A Post About Gentle Parenting Being Effective
It's no secret that some individuals bend the truth quite a bit for the sake of getting likes on social media. According to the moderators, common sense is very useful when it comes to identifying online lies. "We can often tell by reviewing a user's post history or other users may point out that the poster is not being truthful," they shared some of the things that people can consider when judging whether an internet user is trustworthy.
The r/insanepeoplefacebook mods explained that they're all volunteers, so there isn't necessarily someone "on duty" 24/7. "Moderation is basically a hobby for us. We do have a large mod team distributed across multiple continents so we have pretty good coverage," they said that they have a great team and they all do their best to create a welcoming, friendly environment.

"Furthermore, users have the ability to report rule-breaking or offensive content. When enough reports are detected a bot will automatically remove the post and the mods will review the removal," they explained how things work.
The mods stressed to Bored Panda that they don't allow members of the subreddit to post someone's personal information, such as names, usernames, locations, etc. They're also very strict about content that features children and do their best to remove them when they come across them.

When I read news stories about kids who crack and end up shooting their parents, I always wonder if this kind of thing was going on behind the scenes.
During an earlier interview, Bored Panda spoke about the r/insanepeoplefacebook subreddit, its history, and community with a couple of moderators. They noted that it’s great to see the sub having become so successful over the years.
According to them, a new generation of moderators took over from the old guard. The subreddit really took off during the 2016 US presidential election when Republican Donald Trump went up against Democrat Hillary Clinton.
"I've been here for four years or thereabout when we had 300k subscribers. The community has grown rapidly since the 2016 election and now has 2 million subscribers. It's become much more political over time as well," one of the moderators told Bored Panda.
"The subreddit can get very busy just because of the number of people who use it. Our biggest challenge is generally interference from other communities but we do have tools that deal with that. That's probably our biggest challenge," they told us.

"It's a fun subreddit to moderate because our users are very engaged. Never a dull moment," they said that the job of a moderator is pretty fun.
Another moderator, u/Merari01, stressed that the sub has gotten incredibly busy since the 2016 elections.
"The subreddit has gotten a lot more busy since then and like most everything else since 2016 can get pretty partisan at times. The team moderates fairly and equitably within the existing ruleset. One thing we do not allow is when people try to use the subreddit to post something racist or bigoted and that's something we look out for," they explained.

One thing that r/insanepeoplefacebook is known for is inspiring the creation of other similar subreddits. And that’s a cause for celebration among the mods. "It's great! It's a measure of success when a subreddit branches off into other communities."
u/Merari01 said that the moderators of the sub tend to be as busy as they want to be because there’s always work to be found.
"You can micromanage and check every comment made, but who has the time for that? Mostly we check the queue and the front page of the subreddit. We're all experienced enough to see when a post is made that will likely attract problem comments. In that case, we often choose to lock the post. We're all volunteers here who moderate as a fun hobby and no-one wants to continuously press F5 to stay on top of rulebreaking material in that case," the mod said.

Just because you don't remember it doesn't mean it never happened. 16 year olds are jerks because growing up is tough. They're learning, pushing and testing boundaries for a new stage of their life. I'm not excusing the things I did to my parents back then, but it is hard to be a teenager.
"We have an experienced team that communicates with each other about moderation and policy issues and our community can be funny and empathetic. Like with all social media it has its downsides in that sometimes negative things get posted but all in all the good far outweighs the bad," the redditor shared with us.

Like so much of BP, this is merely a subreddit discourse/dialogue that was appropriated by BP for LISTertainment. Often times, these message threads or conversations on Reddit have a socially redeeming value. That BP “lifts” them for a “readers digest” buzzfeed type lists can often be problematic. I agree that out of context of the originally published discourse, used for entertainment here, it isn’t always positive or healthy. I tend to read these horrible lists here then go to the original conversation on Reddit to discern what that dialogue is about. That way I don’t feel like I’m solely participating in being a bystander or using them schadenfreude and instead gain insight and knowledge from the intended context.

Should have a trigger warning. I'm not sure I can think of any good reason to have published this list. Anyone who's entertained by it shouldn't have encouragement for sick behaviors towards kids, or solidarity and justification for the way they act. Everyone else is only horrified and made upset. We weren't told if any abusers were stopped and kids helped, there were no tips on how to help such situations or how to look for signs of abuse etc., nothing here that helps make the world a little better.

There are "degrees" of child abuse, but this is not s contest. Any level of abuse is abuse and should not be tolerated. It's true that some parents burn their babies with cigarettes or beat their kids to death. Yes. True. But that doesn't make the situations in the post less terrible. Child abuse can take different forms, but the consequences won't be less serious.

This thread right here is the reason, why people who want kids should take mandatory psychological evaluation before they are allowed to have a child. Included in the evaluation would also be IQ testing and general knowledge test. Those who fail are not allowed to have children. If they do, the kids will be removed from them. Those who prove to be Narcissistic Psychopaths or have other serious mental issues, are to be castrated and placed in institutions which would take care of them and remove them from society.

We're good now, but when I was still a kid my parents got a divorce. Amicable split, both living in the same town. I went to live with my mom. Due to circumstances I was sent to live with my dad (where all my other siblings were as well). First thing he told me was basically that he was not a "rescue" or "foster" house. I could live with him, but if I ever chose to leave I wouldn't be welcome to live there ever again. I didn't choose to live with him, I was forced under circumstances. And what kind of a parent tells their pre-teen, who had no choice, no say in the matter, that basically they're not welcome unless they commit to stay until adulthood? What kind of parent even puts conditions on taking care of their own child at all? Not even a bratty teenager, but a young child who never spoke up, did chores, babysat siblings and the likes. Years passed, we've had fights and talks, things are good now. I love my dad and he loves me. But he would have gotten the "most shitty parent of the decade" award for sure!

I honestly don't have a problem with the one where the girl puts on oil to give her the courage to climb higher. Essential oils don't really do anything or cause harm outside of allergies, so let her enjoy the placebo effect while it's still young enough to work. May make her more confident when she's older. I couldn't make it through the entire page. I'm a mom and I just cannot fathom behaving so poorly as a parent. My heart aches for kids that go through such horrible treatment. I cut my mom out of my life last year and it was the best thing I ever could have done for myself. I wish I'd done it many years ago. Super toxic.

Please do not do that. Other people suffering does not mean that you can't also struggle and feel upset at times. Don't invalidate their emotions or subject them to such horrible stories. The world is bad enough without dumping more of such darkness on young minds who are already dealing with the anxiety that often seems to just come with being a teenager. (I realize you might be joking about sending it to them but I'd still rather discourage the idea for anyone).

Like so much of BP, this is merely a subreddit discourse/dialogue that was appropriated by BP for LISTertainment. Often times, these message threads or conversations on Reddit have a socially redeeming value. That BP “lifts” them for a “readers digest” buzzfeed type lists can often be problematic. I agree that out of context of the originally published discourse, used for entertainment here, it isn’t always positive or healthy. I tend to read these horrible lists here then go to the original conversation on Reddit to discern what that dialogue is about. That way I don’t feel like I’m solely participating in being a bystander or using them schadenfreude and instead gain insight and knowledge from the intended context.

Should have a trigger warning. I'm not sure I can think of any good reason to have published this list. Anyone who's entertained by it shouldn't have encouragement for sick behaviors towards kids, or solidarity and justification for the way they act. Everyone else is only horrified and made upset. We weren't told if any abusers were stopped and kids helped, there were no tips on how to help such situations or how to look for signs of abuse etc., nothing here that helps make the world a little better.

exactly what i said up above, i'm glad to see someone else agrees. some of these posts would be useful in a psa about overlooked signs of abuse, but that isn't what this is. bp isn't the platform to be posting evidence of child abuse. it sickens me that an entertainment site is compiling such awful things. i can't believe someone tried to pull the "if you don't like it, why'd you click it?" on me in a reply. it's child abuse! why would anyone support that being publicly shared for someone's sick enjoyment?!

There are "degrees" of child abuse, but this is not s contest. Any level of abuse is abuse and should not be tolerated. It's true that some parents burn their babies with cigarettes or beat their kids to death. Yes. True. But that doesn't make the situations in the post less terrible. Child abuse can take different forms, but the consequences won't be less serious.

This thread right here is the reason, why people who want kids should take mandatory psychological evaluation before they are allowed to have a child. Included in the evaluation would also be IQ testing and general knowledge test. Those who fail are not allowed to have children. If they do, the kids will be removed from them. Those who prove to be Narcissistic Psychopaths or have other serious mental issues, are to be castrated and placed in institutions which would take care of them and remove them from society.

You'd be accused of elitism if not downright eugenics (even though it was nothing to do with eugenics). Hell, I think people should have to take a general IQ test and a current events test before they're allowed to vote, but I know that won't happen.

This list is just reason after reason I put a ban on people posting my kid to social media until he's old enough to decide for himself and understand the implications. I don't want stupid trends or embarrassing stories being posted like this. And yes that includes posts from me. (BP is really the only SM I have so 🤷🏻♀️)

We're good now, but when I was still a kid my parents got a divorce. Amicable split, both living in the same town. I went to live with my mom. Due to circumstances I was sent to live with my dad (where all my other siblings were as well). First thing he told me was basically that he was not a "rescue" or "foster" house. I could live with him, but if I ever chose to leave I wouldn't be welcome to live there ever again. I didn't choose to live with him, I was forced under circumstances. And what kind of a parent tells their pre-teen, who had no choice, no say in the matter, that basically they're not welcome unless they commit to stay until adulthood? What kind of parent even puts conditions on taking care of their own child at all? Not even a bratty teenager, but a young child who never spoke up, did chores, babysat siblings and the likes. Years passed, we've had fights and talks, things are good now. I love my dad and he loves me. But he would have gotten the "most shitty parent of the decade" award for sure!

I honestly don't have a problem with the one where the girl puts on oil to give her the courage to climb higher. Essential oils don't really do anything or cause harm outside of allergies, so let her enjoy the placebo effect while it's still young enough to work. May make her more confident when she's older. But pretty much all the others are wack.
