To talk about one of the most famous painters of all time Pablo Picasso, we would probably need to write a book, to include all the accomplishments of his long and fruitful life. In a short summary, though, we can say that the Picasso paintings are probably what defines modern art. The father of Cubism and many famous paintings also did draw a fair amount of self-portraits throughout the 91 years of his life.
If you look at this collection of Picasso’s self-portraits and compare the first piece to the last, you’ll find that the two are strikingly different. But if you then compare Picasso’s work from the time he was a young man until the time of his death, some common thread emerges, and you can tell the paintings were done by the same man.
How, then, do we reconcile the following quotation from Pablo Picasso himself: “The different styles I have been using in my art must not be seen as an evolution, or as steps towards an unknown ideal of painting…Different themes inevitably require different methods of expression. This does not imply either evolution or progress; it is a matter of following the idea one wants to express and the way in which one wants to express it.”
Pandas, put your philosophy-of-art hats on. How do you reconcile the two? Can the artist’s understanding of his own work be dismissed?

15 years old in 1896. 18 in 1900. but that's not all, 20 years after just a year in 1901, to be 24 five yeas later in 1906, because f**k math.
Well I was born in 1995 and I'm 20 years old (not 21)... Obviously the paintings were made in different times of the year - before and after he had his birthday in the mentioned years. You can't always just rely on math.
Load More Replies...Picasso be like: f*ck the rules I'll create my own art with my own rules and my own style xD
you've got to know the rules to break them and still be good
Load More Replies...thats exactly what it was actually he was slowly losing his mind
Load More Replies...this is a "king's new clothes" feature as far as i'm concerned. people will say, ooo, isn't it marvellous how he developed, worried they will stand out in the crowd by saying, descent into shite!
I feel like you don't really understand art. Abstract depiction doesn't equal s**t, especially if you know the artist's background. I admit that I didn't understand his art when I was 12, but growing up and drawing more and more made me realise what it was about. You don't have to like it of course, and you can say whatever you want to, but I'm afraid that you'll look like an ignorant person if you berate something without knowing or understanding it.
Load More Replies...I think what Picasso was saying was that the style is dictated by what he is expressing not they other way around. He would have us believe that he chose the blue period because he wanted to express sadness, then changed his style to fit the form of expression that followed. If so then what he expressed had an evolution. Splitting hairs really, but interesting nonetheless.
Seems like there is a solid group of people thinking this man was on drugs. He was or had symptoms of Schizophrenia and the above paintings could be seen in support of this as onset of Schizophrenia which is in the early 20's for men.

,85 was a good year. I liked it. After that I think I understand where his head might have been coming from considering the Picasso persona.
This just shows again how bad Picasso got with age. Noone talks about his art after the 50's , they hide that s**t.
Age and time are misleading as his expermentation technique was masterful in its own right at any time of his life. And many of those techniques were 'complete' as styles. I think he never let stuff out of his studio which he felt weren't somehow complete
Oh my goodness! The transformation in his art style is amazing! To see how his art became more abstract over the years is quite interesting actually.
I tought I saw it somewhere before! https://www.boredpanda.com/alzheimers-disease-self-portrait-paintings-william-utermohlen/
The last ones are too abstract, I prefer the ones in the middle. But all of them are beautiful works of art :)
I don't understand those ppl who like this art - it's just like geometry figures or non-sense spider webs for me, like I drawed simmilar things in my childhood and I got nothing fr them, and Picasso drawed those when he was adult - later those paintings we're sold for millions :I -_-
You need to know the context where he was, the idea behind the lines. It's not about trying to understand why people like this kind of art, it's more about the historical and psycological context where Pablo Picasso was, and the history of art itself.
Load More Replies...He had schizophrenia, so obviously his realism diminished, but he didn't get worse.
