Ex-Store Greeter Shared That He Never Got In The Way Of Moms Who Tried To Steal Baby Products
If you’re someone who decided to have children, you know how rewarding yet nerve-racking raising your offspring is – realizing that your life will never be the same and that you’re now responsible for a tiny human could affect your mental health and overall stamina that you once had.
Moreover, starting a family is never cheap. Folks ought to be sure that they have a reliable future to know that their children will be showered not only with love but with the necessities that’ll secure them a fulfilling life. However, our existence is incredibly unpredictable, and you never know what kind of lemons you could wake up to tomorrow morning.
This TikTok user stitched a video from a fellow creator that showed a shelf of locked baby formulas while saying: “if you see anyone stealing – no, you didn’t”, to explain why he never cared about mothers stealing said product.

Former Walmart greeter revealed that he used to let women off if they were ever caught stealing baby milk

Once you become a parent – you’re not your number one priority anymore. You’re now in charge of your child and the quality of life that they’re going to have. Unfortunately, no matter how prepared you think you are, things can always go south, whether that’s something related to your financial status or else.
A study found that it could cost up to a $1500 to sponsor your child’s first year of baby formula consumption

Parenting is never easy, nor it is affordable. Health check-ups, after-school activities, clothing – everything that a kid must have in order to live a happy life – costs an unbelievable amount of money. However, today’s article is focused specifically on baby formula. Breastfeeding is, of course, a cheaper way out, but it’s not always as easy as it seems. Some mothers simply are not able to feed their children, which is why they turn to baby milk that happens to be extremely overpriced.

The TikToker started his video off by explaining that he used to work at Walmart as a door greeter, and was responsible for, well, greeting customers and checking their receipts once they were finally stocked up with groceries and were ready to leave the store. Though, he admitted that every time he saw that a baby product, such as diapers or formula wasn’t mentioned on the receipt – he simply wished the customer a great day and continued with his duties.

The reason why he didn’t care about this particular theft was because he believes that baby formulas are way too overpriced and that having kids is generally quite expensive, as not a lot of people are as financially stable as others. The author then mentions that catching people stealing wasn’t at all rewarded by the company, so he didn’t feel like he wanted to put those mothers in an unpleasant position by telling on them for simply wanting to feed their children.

Customers would warn the ex-greeter that they saw someone stealing, yet he would check their receipt and simply let them go. He revealed that he would often get in trouble with asset protection staff but he never really cared about the consequences, since, at the time, he was only making $11.50.

It could be argued that his low salary can’t justify the fact that he would constantly cover for folks that were committing theft – however, everyone’s aware how ridiculously expensive baby products are. A 40-dollar can that many mothers depend on simply shouldn’t cost that much, so maybe he was an absolute angel for helping those who were in need.

As a Scandinavian, the more you read about the American social services the more you thank your lucky stars you were not born in the US. We pay our taxes according to our income and that gives free healh-care and help to nescessary items such as free diapers and low-cost baby formulas...When you have a baby, a nurse will come o your home once a week the first month and once a month for 6 months to check the babys health, weight etc and see how the mother is coping....all for free....I applaud the xWalmart worker for his discernment in a difficult situation
In the UK you get help if not working or on a low income which will allow you to get milk or formula for free. This was around when my son was a baby 33 years ago too. Also though you can get fruit, veg and pulses and vitamins. This starts from the 10th week of pregnancy and continues until the child is aged 4. I also did a quick search on costs but found as a side note that US baby formula is also really poor compared to European. I mean why is corn syrup in baby formula? Scary reading.

Sorry, but there are food banks and drop in centres that accept donations where I' would go when I needed to. I've received diapers and formula after I had to ween her from breastfeeding for medical reasons. Although I do agree with the store employee, it's dangerous to approach and try to stop thieves. A lot of retail businesses where I'm from discourage or bar staff from interfering from shoplifters because they could be dangerous. Also, just because someone has a baby doesn't mean they're downtrodden. Shoplifters come in all wealth brackets and is considered a mental illness, as some describe as unable to stop themselves. Kinda like gambling or alcohol addicts. They don't necessarily need it, they just crave the rush. I hate it when parents steal with their babies. When I used to go into stores with a stroller I would get a sense of being watched like a hawk.
There are most definitely not food banks and "drop in centres" in many areas of the world, including much of the US. Some cities and some areas have them, but services that have things like diapers are few and far between in most areas of the us. You're more likely to find them in larger cities. I can tell you right now there isn't a single one within 50 miles of where I live, for example, and there are only two food banks in that same distance. One requires you to be a resident of a certain county, the other requires you to be an existing member of their church. Let's stop pretending there are countless services for struggling parents when there is much evidence to suggest the contrary. It doesn't forgive stealing-it's wrong, but playing the holier than thou card because you were blessed with services others paid for when you were struggling is just wrong.

Idk if it's still used but back then we were struggling. We got WIC but it only covered 4 cans a month. I had to get creative to pay for the other cans. I would write to the company and get a free can sent to all different addresses. I'd get all the free cans of whatever formula I could get and return it to acme to get a voucher so I could get a can. I'd get some from her pediatrician. I was never brave enough to take any but I really would have if I was desperate enough. I found a million ways to save money those few years we were getting our business going.
It still exists. I have 6 cans at home right now. My daughter is allergic to milk protein so a doctor writes a prescription for it and we get 6 cans for about 12$. Without a prescription it's around 26$ a can. I live in Sweden by the way

Very few people have the key because baby formula is the #1 most stolen item in the store. Parents have to steal to feed their babies, yet what will this country spend money on? Sigh.
S**t... if I see a woman stealing baby formula, diapers or other essentials like that or even feminine products.. I'll be a damn look out for that person.. F**k capitalism. Shits tough right now for everyone. Especially ppl with kids. I'm not about to rat ppl out or watch a mom go to jail over $10 worth of baby food... then who is going to take care of that kid!? The US treats women like s**t.. especially single mothers.. I will not be part of that system. If I can spare a few bucks I'll offer to help out but at the very least I'll help make sure someone will be home with that kid and that kid will have a full belly. I know it's illegal. But morally it's not to me. It's sad that ppl even have to resort to stealing and risk going to jail to feed their kids or to be able to have feminine products. That ain't her fault. That's our systems fault.
I saw someone handcuffed for stealing canned goods when I was little and I was so horrified for them. Our world is broken.
Yeah, because stealing goods makes every one else's price go down. Stealing makes everything worse for everyone.
That's what they say but they absorb that price corporations do not suffer from retail theft. They just say they do to Jack up prices.

If you worked 24 hours per day, every day for 50 years, you would have to be paid $9,056 per minute to amass the fortune that the Walton family has.
At the Walmart where I shop they have the Similac and other necessary baby items locked in cases, so you have to go find an employee who has the key, and usually they're not on staff that day. I'm not a mom but I observed this and it enraged me. Not guns or phones or tires, which actually cost money, just the stuff that should be provided free to all parents of infants.
Theft is wrong and a crime. But stealing a loaf of bread for your family or someone in need is more justifiable in a civilized society's eyes. Still, I think I would prefer to beg than steal.
That's sweet, noble intentions and everything. I just hope that the cashiers and other minimum wage workers aren't the ones who have to pay for those stolen goods he so charitably didn't notice.
The Waltons can afford to give every pregnant women formula + other baby supplies FOR FREE. It's not like the Waltons are part of the "indigent poor."
Imagine your doctor/surgeon not -'being paid enough' to inform the anesthesiologist...
Being a new-born in the 1980s in Eastern-Europe, I have no clue for what's the baby-formula is good. My parents gave me actual food, I mean veggies and fruits purees at the beginning, than slowly different kinds of meat and other stuff. So, this formula is now instead of these? And if yes....why?
You can't eat actual food from the beginning. Babies need milk at the start of their lives and are gradually weaned onto food. Formula has been around for ages. Some Mothers can't breastfeed so need an alternative. I know formula was an option when I was a baby in the 60s and my son who is now 33 (born 88) and a Father himself, was given formula when I couldn't feed him myself. This was the UK and Germany. I take it you are not a parent or have experience of little ones? Not a criticism btw.

It is a real shame he wasn't caught and sacked. These woman should never have had children if they couldn't afford to provide basic care. This bleeding heart should have caught them and shamed them. Hopefully prosecution would have followed.
Oh, look, someone who doesn't know that circumstances change and people who are financially stable or even middle class can fall into poverty in the blink of an eye, especially in a country with a for-profit healthcare system. You ooze hate and resentment.
