50 People Share Pics Of Things That Don’t Exist Anymore To Make Others Feel Super Old (New Pics)
Tony Soprano once said, “‘Remember when’ is the lowest form of conversation.” In case you didn’t catch his drift, it was an implication that dwelling on nostalgia can either signal an unfulfilling present or be a dangerous way to divulge information.
But for everyone else who isn’t a cynic or hiding something dark, reminiscing is always a fond way to bond over a shared history. It’s why subreddits like this one thrive, particularly through images of the past that instantly bring you back to a simpler time.
Here are some of the many posts on the page that you may need to explain to a younger person in your life.

For the most part, we reminisce to recall the happier moments in our lives. While it is often a fruitful bonding experience, it can also be a healthy activity for seniors. A 2022 study published in Frontiers in Psychology described nostalgia as a “precious resource” for older adults, as it fosters a sense of safety and supports healthy aging.
We All Still Buy It And Eat It
And We Survived
ooo fancy you with a lunch box! We had a paper bag, with our sandwiches wrapped in waxed paper, and we liked it!
Load More Replies...I am 57 and I had a lunchbox, thermos and a backpack. And remember OUR boomer parents thought us Gen X kids were spoiled. Let every generation have their thing. Get over it.
I always had a bologna on white bread sandwich in a brown paper bag which would sit in the school hallway until lunchtime.
I had exactly the same. You couldn't pay me to eat bologna now though.
Load More Replies...Barnet, London 1966. My infant and primary school in Lancashire looked similar.
During middle school, school ended at 1 PM. My school at the time didn't even have a cafeteria (or any other opportunity to buy food).
Mine as well, we could take a sandwich or buy tiny packs of nuts, crisps, chocolate bar or a bottle of juice during recess, lunch was at home
Load More Replies...People act like just because the science for crime solving, news couldn't share information about the a***e and kidnappings that happened back then as well they didn't happen. In those days they even wouldn't blink an eye half the time to men beating their wives and such so I don't want to hear anyone try to talk about the good old days.
And the school meals were healthy and EDIBLE !! no bloody pizza and chips , chicken fricasea was my favourite u can’t buy it now , I can’t even find a recipe,to make it , closest is chicken supreme , n the roast dinner were lush to , 1970s style ,
Lady, you had chips! Unless you were at a private fee paying school with Michelin aspirations. You definitely had chips, semolina, blancmange and sponge cake with custard that had zero nutritional value but tasted good. Shut up.
Load More Replies...In the country where I was born (and which no longer exists because it was torn up ) and spent my childhood and youth, in all kindergartens and primary schools the children received breakfast, snack and lunch for free and it was prepared according to very strict dietary and hygienic rules and standards, the food was very tasty and you could eat as much as you wanted, all schools had dining halls and the teacher on duty made sure that everyone ate their meal...but somehow that didn't happen well...
We would bring lunch or eat in the cafeteria, water fountains kept us hydrated.

Yup! With a side of, “Did you tape a Penny to the Columbia House postcard” years old!
“By doing so, they find safety in sources such as familiar patterns and coherence, continuity in the sense of self or relationships, and affectionate close bonds,” an excerpt from the journal reads.
The study also emphasized the importance of nostalgia and its role in regulating emotions, physiology, and behavior. It noted that feeling wistful about the past has the potential to support the brain-heart regulatory response to threat and safety.

Memoirist and speaker Diana Raab further discussed the benefits of reminiscence in an article for Psychology Today. As she explained, doing so in a social context “inspires a sense of warmth and connection,” which ultimately nurtures relationships.

Raab likewise doubled down on the benefits of nostalgia for seniors. In her article, she noted how reminiscing about the good old days “can be an antidote to loneliness” while also promoting prosocial behavior.
“Looking back on our lives tends to minimize loneliness and isolation,” said Raab, who holds a PhD in transpersonal psychology.

Chartered psychologist Jolanta Burke also recognizes the power of reminiscence. She even offered tips on how to tap into our past with utmost fondness, which would benefit in the long run.
One tip she provided is to consider one of your happiest moments in life and write about it in a journal. Another tip would be to make a list of positive memories and pick one to recall. According to Burke, it’s about letting these images and emotions surface so we have something to hold on to and even write about.

31 Years Ago I Had My First Crush. Who Was Yours?
A lot of the old tv shows can still be found with a little searching. Just for fun, go back and watch the first episode of All in the Family and picture the reaction if it was aired today.
All in the Family wouldn’t be produced at all in today’s network TV atmosphere, especially considering how so many of the owners of the networks all voted. That’s not a good thing, because even though Archie personified all the negative -isms, he did love his family, and even ended up learning better, becoming more progressive, and doing the right thing, though sometimes it took a while and several tries.
Load More Replies...This is definitely more Gen X. I was born in 81, so definitely old Millennial, borderline baby Gen X. I am familiar with the 80s and 90s stuff
I was born in 1960, so a lot of this is from after I was an adult living on my own. I HAD that rotary dial phone on the wall in my kitchen! I did ALL 20 things on that list, many on a daily or weekly basis. I watched those TV shows when they were new. I bought cigarettes from those machines (back when I smoked briefly in my early 20s). I had a subscription to MAD Magazine and Crack’d, and Spy vs Spy was one of my favorite cartoons. F**k, I’m old. When TF did THAT happen?
