I Left My Corporate Job To Make Mystical Polymer Clay Creatures, And Here Are My Works
A little over a decade ago, my sister helped me start up my art business "Mystic Reflections." At the time, I had just a small website and most of my artwork was black-and-white sketches that I sold at craft shows. In 2007, I sculpted my first Myxies (fairies), dragon sculptures, and animal pals. My early mythical creature sculptures were made from air-drying clay. I now use polymer clay, having refined my materials along with my techniques and tools.
After trying for several years, I was finally accepted into the Dragon Con Art show in 2008, known for the very cool artworks they represent. I've been fortunate enough to be accepted back every year, which has continuously made it my largest annual event. To date, I've received six awards from the art show for various mythical animal pieces. My work's popularity has grown steadily due to the exposure Dragon Con provides, and I look forward to this exciting convention each year. Several smaller shows discovered me through Dragon Con and have approached me about being their featured artist.
Two years ago, I was able to leave my corporate job to pursue my unique art full-time. This allowed me to dedicate more time to perfecting my craft and gave me the opportunity to illustrate my first children's book, "The Adventures of Mend." It was my first experience as a contracted professional illustrator.
Every year, my business continues to grow, and I'm able to create a multitude of animal and dragon artworks for people to enjoy. I hand-make each of my sculptures, never using molds, so each piece is one-of-a-kind. These cool dragons prove to be the most popular of my pieces.

YES. BABY CUTHULUS. OH I ADORE THEM. LOOK AT THEM SNUGGLING THE MUTILATED BODY PARTS. THEY ARE SO SWEET.
So adorable. I especially like the one in the middle, cuddling the skull with its eyes closed like that's his pillow and he's taking a nap.

Is this little fellow already sold....??!?!?! and if so, will you make another...?!?! IM IN LOVE
Wow...oh..wow..oh ...wow..............................................
I love this. The wingspread is gorgeous and the detail on the feathers is amazing. Every detail down to the tail is perfect. The Phoenix rises up from the ashes. But for me, I would love one done in dark sapphire colored blue that shimmers.
Phoenix - so many of these come crossing my path at the moment. Love your work.
Caralyn, what is this cute little guy? Whatever the little guy is, it sure is a cute little thing. :D
John L, Thank you so much, this little guy is one of my Steampunk Dragon Pals. :)
Load More Replies...I love him. I've been wanting something Steampunk, and he would be an awesome one to start a collection with.
Yes, it is. They are very skittish birds. Maybe it was trying to tell you something, or perhaps it was a visit from a loved one who has passed away. It could also be a spirit guide, look it up on google. All living things have a certain, sometimes secret, meanings.
Load More Replies...I would love to get one of these for both my Mom and myself. But neither one of us likes the color pink.
OMG....I love it!!! And so would my Mom. Green is her favorite color. Of course if I bought it, I might have a hard time parting wth it. lol But, I would end up giving it to her, I always do.
This one of a kind piece has already sold. I do plan on making another Dragon next year but it will not be the same as this one. Thanks!
Load More Replies...It's like a tree was touched magically and became this creature. Incredible imagination.
Now that is steampunk. So cool. I love it. My daughter would absolutely love this.
awesome ,you are sooo talented I love your fairies and dragons, beautiful, Are they for sale? How can I contact you, tyvm
He is so beautiful and so much detail, you are truly a amazing artists dont stop
Okay, I want every single steampunk item you have. I love the way you do steampunk, you add what's necessary, but you don't over do it. Yep, I need to start a collection.
So adorable, another steampunk item I need to get. And the details in the foxes fur are absolutely beautiful.
Hey, I may not be a kingfisher, but I can still dive for my dinner. :D
lmfao. It is sooooo cute!! And it made me laugh. I need this one too.
Wind this little fellow up and he's ready to give his all for you. :D
I love the steampunk. But, hairless cats have always looked like aliens to me. They kind of creep me out. But I have to admit that this guy looks pretty cool, although that may be because the steampunk covers a lot of his body.
Bahahahaha...I know just the right person who could relate to this one. Makes me wonder...Where is he hiding the Ace? Awesome!!
She is gorgeous!!! I love the headpiece, the chest plate, everything about it!! I MUST HAVE HER!!!
If I had one of these little cuties, I might actually put up a Christmas tree. It's just so beautiful. I love it!!! Another MUST HAVE!!!!!
They are so adorable. I love dragons, fairies, steampunk, etc. and so on.
Ok, now this is definitely my favorite! For sure! Unless I see another one!
MINE, MINE, MINE...I MUST HAVE HER!!! And the turtle is just so cute. MUST HAVE BOTH!!!
I would have to get 2 of these, one for my Step Dad who is kind of (okay, very) obsessed with squirrels. And one for myself, of course.
I noticed that a while back, like you said - their loss! If they only knew....
Load More Replies...O.M.G. I want this one SOOOO bad. A combo of dragon, steampunk, and cuteness. What more can you ask for? I Want It!!!
It's cute. But is it supposed to be an owl with paws or a cat with wings?
O.M.G. So cute and sweet. Love the steampunk. Looks great on this little guy. I want him too. He's just so adorable.
My Mom would put this in her huge fairy garden. She loves adding cool and unusual stuff to it all the time.
I actually think this clay art sculpture should have a higher score
Holy S**t! and O.M.G. This has to be one of my top favorites in your steampunk line. I REALLY WANT THIS ONE!!
I love it. Subtle, but so adorable. I love this little guy. MUST HAVE!!
I love him/her. He's just so adorable and the steampunk additions make him even more awesome!!
Sooo sad that so many people wouldn't take the time to see them all!
some folks scroll through and enjoy all of them still no worries.

A good friend told me that the only job security I have is that which I make for myself. Now I've been self-employed for 36 years, and control my own destiny, instead of an employer. Good Luck on your journey through life. :D
Hello Caralyn, your work is just so lovely :) so adorable, i love every detail of those creature, they are taking me to another dimension. keep up the good work and be an inspiration to all of ua.
My only complaint is that, being a Brit, I can't purchase any of your amazing creations as you do not ship there. Good job- and keep it up!
I've seen your work before! its really cool to know the story behind the artist. One day I also hope to live form my art, but in the meantime, back to the office!
