I wanted so badly to be a classical pianist, and when I was 11 or 12, a friend of my grandmother needed to get rid of her spinet piano for space reasons and we inherited it. I taught myself how to read music, but I never got quite to where I wanted to be. In my 20s I joined a choir and ended up singing Soprano 1 for 30 years in successively better choirs. I sang Beethoven’s Ninth with the San Francisco Symphony as part of their expansion choir. I got to sing Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder (Songs for Dead Children) with the Berkeley Symphony while Kent Nagano was still its conductor. Maestro Nagano has the most beautiful hands I have ever seen…they’re like butterflies when he conducts.

Singing in any choir is a gift to the listener and to yourself.

I'm obsessed with the music wheels. I worked at a craft store around the holidays and they got snow globes in that were busted like 30 of them. They said I couldn't keep the bases because it was product... But my boss looked at me and said the policy says nothing about the what's inside the base. So I removed all the music wheels and repurposed them

I miss crocheting…I got carpal tunnel and had to give up embroidery, crocheting, and—my deepest love of these three—knitting. During my knitting years, my best friend was also a knitter; she liked working in colors but preferred to just use stockinette, whereas I liked using one color (or yarn that came in variegated colors—I just didn’t want to work with two different yarns at once) but I loved working with lots of open fret work and patterns.

He gave it to me for only $20 because I was so enamoured and when I got home I found that the signature was alice asmar who was displayed at the smithsonian. She had spent time with his family when he was a boy and sketch these in his backyard in 1961

I would love to encourage you to support Goodwill—they find jobs for people who have been homeless or have been out of the workplace for a long time. They teach people new skills so that they can support themselves. It’s one of the few charities that I support regularly. (I’d support more, but I’m living on a fixed income.)

Fortunately, this is not my former squirrel so I don't have to contact legal counsel on ownership. Cherish your squirrel.

When the word groovy hit the scene in the 1960s I really hated it, but in the last decade or so, I’ve come to fully embrace and use it in any given situation!

Sorry for the black outline, but this was found at a local thrift store for $20, and I have a lot of funky shirts that I can wear with it.

Ha. Clothes, shoes, jewelry. My new favorite leather jacket. 5 or 6 hoodies for my kids who literally wears nothing else. I forget that other people buy things other than clothes at thrift stores. XD

Found this while thrift shopping at a WonderRex recycling store here in Japan. Saw this beauty on the shelf, and that they were only asking 5000 yen (equivalent to about 50 dollars, maybe a bit more). The edge was quite flimsy soft, so with some love, and DIY good items I fixed it up to be one of a kind, my handbag🥰💪🧤🧰⚙️👨‍👩‍👧‍👧🇺🇸🇯🇵🌏🗻🗾
