Muslim Community Brings 5 Trucks Of Supplies And Cooks Meals For Exhausted Firefighters In Australia
The current bushfires in New South Wales and Victoria were recently declared the largest forest fires in Australia’s history. What first started off as a local problem now has caught the entire world’s attention due to its epic proportions and desperate need for help.
A recent Bored Panda article on the topic can fill you in on how devastating the bushfires have been thus far. Many initiatives were launched to help with the seemingly unstoppable bushfires, with one of the most notable being Celeste Barber’s Facebook Fundraiser, which has managed to raise 31 million dollars from over a million people worldwide, with thousands of other organizations also raising millions for the cause.

The entire world has come together to treat the open wound that is the Australian bushfires, including the Australian Islamic Center from Newport, Victoria in collaboration with Human Appeal International. The two have recently come together to provide aid to the exhausted firefighters of Johnsonville, Victoria. Bored Panda got in touch with the Australian Islamic Center who were more than happy to elaborate on the story.

On January 3rd, a community of Muslims from Newport, an inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, traveled nearly 4 hours eastward, toward the bushfire front near Johnsonville, with 5 trucks worth of supplies like food and water to help the local fire brigade and community fight off the wildfires.
“Last Thursday, we came together and decided that we needed to do something for those affected by the bushfires,” explained a representative of the Australian Islamic Center. “Having formed a strong relationship with our local firefighters, the Melbourne Fire Brigade (MFB), we reached out to them and asked what’s the best possible way we can help. They said that we can help by distributing goods and raising funds. That’s when we got the ball rolling and launched our bushfire appeal.”

They continued: “We reached out to the community via social media and personal messages, asking them to donate whatever they can. Within 48 hours, we have managed to fill 5 truck-loads of much-needed items. All donated items were brand new and covered all areas of necessity: female hygiene products, water bottles, milk, baby wipes, fruit, and much more.”
Many towns, villages, and smaller communities are struggling to survive as the bushfires cut off food and water supply routes. This is on top of the immense air pollution causing health problems and the ever increasing heat that gives no relief for many Australians.

The Australian Islamic Center, in collaboration with Human Appeal International, has recently launched an initiative called the National Bushfire Emergency Appeal, which aims to provide relief for Australians who have lost their homes to the fires, as well as to support local communities in battling the disaster.
Since the bushfires have cut off food & water routes, such communities are left without much supplies to survive

Besides the supplies distributed, the Muslim community also organized a barbecue for the local communities. There are reports that since many locals were not sufficiently ready for the coming fires, they may have been starving for anywhere up to 48 hours at this point.
“We also had a sausage sizzle on Friday noon and raised $1500,” explained a representative of the Australian Islamic Center. “Our volunteers stayed up till 12:30am on Saturday (4th of January) sorting the donated items and loading them onto the trucks. That same Saturday at 3am, our volunteers embarked on their journey to distribute the aid.”

“The first destination was at Johnsonville Fire Brigade, where they cooked up breakfast for 150 fire fighters,” elaborated the Australian Islamic Center. “Then they were escorted by the MFB to the affected areas where those who had evacuated their homes were residing. Our team has set up another cookout and called all to eat. They had a variety of meals including lamb and chicken kebab, beef sausages, and minced meat. They also had sweet and savory items.”
They continued: “The aid was distributed to different locations, with a guide from the MFB. The team worked throughout the day unloading the goods at these drop off locations. The volunteers worked tirelessly from 3am till 11pm that day.”
At the moment, over 15M acres of land have been ravaged by the fires in New South Wales & Victoria

When asked about the current situation with the bushfires and what were some of the challenges the Australian Islamic Center had to face during their initiative, they had this to say: “The situation of the bushfires is worsening. The fires haven’t affected our area—they are happening out in the country areas. The biggest challenge for us is seeing our brothers and sisters going through so much pain, it really cuts deep. The only thing we can do is to have hope and pray for rain.”
As of this article, the bushfires have already ravaged 15 million acres of land in New South Wales and Victoria, destroying nearly 1,800 homes and causing 22 deaths. The fires have not yet been stopped, so these figures are expected to rise.
Firefighters as well as volunteers, local communities, and the aforementioned heroes have been giving their all and working around the clock to help alleviate the effects of the bushfires. You can also help by donating to the National Bushfire Emergency Appeal, which currently accepts money donations as well as food and non-food supplies.

I couldn't care 2 hoots what religion they are- that they are helping is enough. Generosity and heling those in need (charity) should be second nature to any decent human being. You shouldn't need a religion to back it up. I am sure it is greatly appreciated.
I agree that religion shouldn't play a part in helping and generosity should be the focus, however, where I live in the United States, any religion besides Christianity is looked down on and other religions are portrayed as money hungry or culturally racists. So, sadly, showing any religion or people being helpful, kills any perception of hatred that others may try to spew.
you're right, except for the fact that Christianity is also hugely looked down on and spat on, especially in todays culture. it's why BP rarely posts anything positive about Christianity.
Yes! Where are the articles talking about Reach Beyond or CMAA or World Vision?! Christian organizations (or any other religion) donating time and money to Australia but we don’t see them spotlighted. Shame on you BP!
Yes, and no. Muslims face a lot of prejudice and this effort is helping on two fronts.
Magpie, christians also face a great deal of prejudice and persecution, a lot of it just happens in countries where you dont see it in the headlines

Why does BP have the need to highlight a persons race, sex, sexuality or religion?!
Muslims are often prortrayed as "the enemy" and many people, including BP and it's members, want to show not everyone is the same regardless the religion you follow. Just like regular christians you might enconunter everyday, and the ones that pray for gay people to die. Get the idea?
ShireenAin'tWoke, I 100% agree that it "should" not be needed. Sadly, thanks to the intentional fear-mongering of many media outlets, (in order to gain ratings & therefore advertising dollars), this kind of publicity is helpful to counteract the fear-mongering. Those in my circle, don't give a damn about a person's demographics, as long as they are good-hearted. I've found that in the majority of cases. Articles like this, help spread the positive side of things, which hopefully, will mean that one day soon, such articles won't ever be needed. <3
Sergio neglected an important distinction with gays and religion. Yes, Christians may indeed think bad thoughts about gays and harmed them IN CENTURIES PAST. But some Islamists literally kill them, routinely, TODAY. Get the idea?
Yes, I "Get the idea" but there should be no need for it.
Because Bored Panda likes stories that portray non-white/American/Christian in a positive light. (I don’t have a problem with these articles, but when it is done to an extreme, it seems condescending). Interesting to note, Bored Panda used to post more negative Asian articles. Seems like they’ve toned that down.

This particular group usually gets hate on line and singles out as just bad people and there is a lot of issues in Australia with people attacking Muslims. So it's kind of needed and kind of nice to see this kind of thing.
I think what you are really saying is "I don't like Muslims being portrayed in a positive light because it undermines my worldview that all Muslims are terrorists"
Bored Mooglr, there are roughly 1.6 Billion Muslims practicing Islam. It's estimated that just a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction are terrorists.....so if you take a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction of 1.6 Billion you're only talking a few hundred thousand folks with terroristic aspirations. There, feel better? :)
ShireenAin'tWoke, it's in order to highlight the good in *all* communities - to celebrate that goodness, and to show gratitude for the kindness of others in times of crisis. It shows, that in the end, regardless of what demographic(s) one can be part of, we are all *one* community. <3
It's just info. No need to get out your MAGA hat.
@ glorytherainwing Extremists attacked the twin towers. To hate all Muslims is not appropriate nor ethical. During the "troubles" in Ireland Catholic Christians and Protestant Christians *extremists* blew up each others' schools. To hate all Christians on that basis would be wrong. The same applies to Muslims. By all means hate the mongrel ( insert swear words ) extremists. But not the rest!
@ glorytherainwing, if you're going to hate Muslims, make sure you include Dave Chappelle, Zayn Malik, Shaquille O’Neal, Janet Jackson, Dr. Oz, Malala Yousafzai, Amal Clooney, Aziz Ansari and Muhammad Ali. Why distinguish between Osama bin Laden and some non-violent performers, doctors, athletes, human rights advocates? While you're at it, hate me, too.

I hate Muslims. they attacked the twin towers, or at least said to. I find all of them traitors
Go fuck yourself dude
Shame on you Glory! My Islam is peaceful and loving. I am Muslim, I want nothing but good for everyone on earth, I am queer, and I know Allah even loves jerks like you. The people who destroyed the twin towers were not true Muslims, they were evil, evil people who twisted the sacred words of god for their own nefarious purposes. To show you Muslims are good, I forgive you. It must be difficult and sad to live hating an entire religion of people. Also, please know I do not want Glory to feel bad. You deserve love and support. I am so so sorry for what you are going through. Take care friends
I hope glorytherainwing evolves. When people speak against religion, I point out that political ideologies can be pretty destructive, too. The good/bad of religion is pretty much based on what people get out of it: spirituality and humanity to others or dogma and excuses to do wrong to others. The churches that march in my town's pride parade are poles apart from right-wing dominionists. (Muslims and Jews march in Pride, too :) )
Yes, so well said. Looove your comment!!!
Asalaumu alaikum! Yes! I march at pride in my local town every year. People scold me a lot telling me I can't be a real Muslim because I am gay and Non Binary. Which is stupid. Allah loves every single human being, of all religions (or of no religion at all!) even the mean ones like Glory. In my opinion (OPINION, y'all) both politics and religion can get very dangerous very fast. Thank you for your kind words. Allah bless all you splendid people!
I'm guessing Blue the yam steers clear of living in predominantly Islam practicing countries. Which is wise.
