Some women are controlling towards their sons and act jealous when daughters-in-law enter the picture

Parents are never supposed to control their kids, and even less so once their children become adults. However, some mothers can be extremely protective of their sons, causing trouble for their partners. No wonder the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law bond gets so complicated that there are even movies made and novels written about it.

Research has found that 60% of women admitted that the relationship with their female in-law caused them long-term unhappiness and stress. Also, two-thirds of daughters-in-law believed that their husband’s mother frequently exhibited jealous, maternal love towards their son. It becomes more toxic when these women act on their jealousy and lash out.

A Cambridge University psychologist and author, Dr. Terri Apter, explains, “The conflict often arises from an assumption that each is criticizing or undermining the other woman. But this mutual unease may have less to do with actual attitudes and far more to do with persistent female stereotypes that few of us manage to shake off completely.”

“Both the mother and the wife are struggling to achieve the same position in the family — primary woman. Each tries to establish or protect their status. Each feels threatened by the other,” she adds. Moreover, some women are not really able to handle the shift in power, as daughters-in-law symbolize a changing family structure.

A wedding is an ultimate event that marks this, and women might act out. In this story, the author’s mother-in-law initially displayed jealousy and tried to control her sisters. But she planned the nastiest act after her son told her off, which might have cemented her jealousy.

Narcissists have little empathy for how their actions affect others, even their own family

According to the experts at Mayo Clinic, narcissists have an unreasonably high sense of their own importance. They need and seek too much attention and want people to admire them. These people may lack the ability to understand or care about the feelings of others. When they are called out for their toxic behavior, it may shatter their fragile self-image of perfection.

They tend to lash out because of their anger, but a wedding is the last place to do so. After all, it can be extremely overwhelming for the bridal couple. Even researchers highlight that weddings bring together a mix of change and transition, high expectations, family dynamics, financial strain, and the pressure to perform socially, all of which can take a toll on mental health.

The last thing that the bridal couple needs is a cruel relative trying to upstage them or add more panic to the already stimulating day. I mean, they spend a lot of time and money to make it perfect, and when things go haywire, it can naturally dampen the whole mood of the wedding. Besides, this special day is etched in their memory, so they obviously want it to be fabulous.

In this story, the sisters jumped in at the right moment, and their epic move saved the day for the narrator. Peeps online were thrilled that the evil mother-in-law was put in her place, and her plan failed miserably. What are your thoughts about the story? Feel free to share them in the comments. I think, if they weren't NC, but were lo contact, I'd make sure that dress were somewhere in the background of every photo sent by dh to surrogate from now to eternity. out of focus, just hanging from a doorway, or slung over the back of a chair, hanging from a clothesline, a tree in the campsite. some rando sitting a couple booths away in a restaurant. My gosh this could go on for years! But of course, I'm petty that way
