Monkey Adopts A Puppy, Defends It From Stray Dogs, And Lets It Eat First
Earlier this month, a rhesus macaque monkey adopted an adorable puppy in Rode, India. After watching the monkey defend the little dog from strays, the locals were so impressed that they set out food for the two unlikely friends. To everyone’s surprise, the caretaker monkey was so compassionate that it even let the cute puppy eat first!
“People who have seen the two adorable animals spoke of their strong mutual affection and described this animal friendship as the most caring thing in the world — to take care of a puppy in danger and protect him like a parent,” reports Zee News. “The undying affection of these two animal friends gives us a valuable lesson about relationships.”

Share on FacebookThat's so sweet! But as a concerned pet lover, locals might wanna watch out when the monkey has grapes- grapes are REALLY bad for dogs!
yep sure...they should explain that to the monkey...tss people! ^.-

Lutetia Vollentine, do you not know how to use google before you post a comment claiming to know something? Grapes ARE poisonous to dogs and cause them to go into kidney failure. You sound like an idiot claiming to know something and calling someone a name for not knowing when you are the one who is wrong, you are the “idiotic dimwit” lol. Your a sad pathetic person. I bet ur the kind of person who thinks they know everything and doesn’t listen to someone when they state facts, you just keep screaming “no, I’m right, ur wrong.” You need to get a grip. Lol wow people are so damn ignorant.
Load More Replies...India is one of the worst places to be a stray puppy. There are worst things that could happen to this pup than being adopted by a monkey. Maybe after the monkey moves on, a rescue organization will pick him up, since he's a little celebrity now.
It’s quite the opposite actually, I stayed in South Goa recently, the stray dogs there have their own little patches of the beach and everyone respects them. They come into some of the beach bars and will sleep at your feet and the nobody minds. The locals and tourists give them food sometimes but they don’t beg for it, they are lovely well mannered dogs ❤️
Load More Replies...I am an indian....I live in that town where the image was taken...and that monkey is not protecting the puppy..in turn it is slowly killing it...by throwing the dog from a tall network tower...and also eats everything given to the puppy...and its slowly staving to death...the image shows only few moment where the monkey SEEMS to be protecting...don't believe everything that the caption says...I truly learned a lesson today...the internet is not good way to learn or know something
I think the puppy looks unhappy Poor baby, it needs a human helping it right now. If you live in that town will you rescue it?
Load More Replies...Very cute, but what is going to happen when he drops the dog on a tree branch? It is sweet, but maybe they both need a new companion.
Stupid people! Puppy doesn't look happy about it! And dogs can't eat grapes!!! Rescue the dog!
Very common in the Emirates. There's a great documentary about it from ARTE (french/german TV station). They state that amongst pavians there's a habit of stealing another mother monkeys baby if the own died. They probably just did that with puppies. But interesting in deed
I've watched a documentary where when their babies die they encroach into human settlement and even steal human infants during their grief
Load More Replies...I think this is sweet too but the monkey treats the puppet like a baby monkey and that puppy needs to run around - not go up in trees.
I think it is a sweet idea, but the pup looks miserable. Sure it isn't more like kidnapping? Monkey can't know what the pup can eat.
I hope the locals are intelligent enough to realize that the monkey and dog have totally different diets and nutritional needs.
Some people really need to understand what anthropomorphism is and stop treating animals like they had "so great empathy"...
Seriously. People saying that the monkey knows "right from wrong", etc. It has the puppy in its grasp and won't let it wander and explore. Just because it's attacking another dog doesn't mean it's "protecting the puppy". I especially cringe at the commenters who say oh how cute, a puppy swinging from a tree. Wth?
Load More Replies...This is beautyful BUT.... Seeing the pic of the monkey mom jumping from on etree to God knows where have me worried. If she thinks that the puppy can climb a tree, that would be troublesome.
If everyone can’t see the fear in the puppy, and the OBVIOUS bad state and starvation it’s in... 😥 while the monkey looks more than well fed.. I really hope & pray someone stepped in for the puppy, before it’s too late! I love both animals, but, the monkey pretty much kidnapped it as it own and is doing more harm than good (monkeys know how to take of their own, not another animal which is totally different)
Im not so sure. Interpretation? Could the threatening stray have been the pups mother wanting it back? What happens when the pup is too big to carry? Will there be a bloody dispute then? I hold thumbs all ends well.
Hum? Probably the monkey lost it's own baby and stole this pub from it's mother. I've seen a really nice documentary about this phenomenon. Quite common amongst Saudi Arabien "Makakes "
I hope this pup is eventually taken to a local vet for medical care and then returned to the monkey. Internal parasites can kill.
Grapes are toxic to kidneys in canines😱 Love this Mom, tender & fierce 🙏🏽👏🏻🐾🐾
Did the man monkey save the puppy from stray dogs or steal it from stray dogs who were it’s parents?! 🤔
Cool right now except for the grapes..but someone needs to save the puppy for it's own future.
This is such a sweet thing--these two are adorable. That monkey is so awesome.
They need each other, and many sentient beings are not as simple minded as we humans think they are. This is not an unusual thing to happen. A lioness adopted a baby gazelle, a horse adopted a baby goat, a dog adopted an owl, a huge gorilla adopted a little kitten...and the list goes on and on. Often mothers missing their deceased babies will do this. We are all so much alike, but I think we have been taught we aren’t in order to maintain some ‘emotional’ distance between us and them, so we can do terrible things to them, including eating them, and feel no remorse because, after all, they are just stupid unfeeling animals. This mother adopting this little puppy who so needs to be adopted and protected, is just incredibly beautiful and touching and reminds me of how connected we all are.
My heart melted a bit more, but I am afraid the monkey will drop the dog from a tree.
How long did she keep the puppy?? How old is the puppy now and is the monkey still around???
It's precious-doesnt matter a bit that the puppy's adopter.is a monkey as long as people can provide his food and med. care. And swinging thru the trees might be a little scary, but it's good for now!
The puppy doesn't look very happy, the monkey won't even put him down
This was roughly 3 years Ago looking at the posts. Where is the dog and monkey now
Or maybe trying to.kill him with those grapes ! ( Dogs are allergic to grapes)
The pup is going to need his vaccinations pretty quickly and how are they going to be able to take the pup from the monkey for just that short time that it takes, without too much trauma to either of them?
I hope the monkey doesn't take it high up a tree and let it go, expecting it to climb.
Look after this pair come live with me they should now be looked after correctly xxxx
This is so sweet and cute. I wish a shelter would adopt the two of them so they could live out their lives together. That’s one cute puppy and a sweet caring monkey. Please someone step up to the plate. Where are these animals?
I think it shows us that animals have a heart and a mind no matter what kind of animals they are or person they have compassion and understanding and they love each other that's about God put animals on this Earth for and for whatever people believe in Buddhist God or all Hindus I think sometimes people come back as animals to teach other animals a lesson in life to care and love each other I love cats I have five cats I live in a one-bedroom apartment in Texas the cat outside kind of claimed us and we've been feeding her and taking care of her Elizabeth for the last couple years now she can be cantankerous little kitty my for kitties and look at out of her head out the window and they loved her from a distance but we love her too animals know who will be good to them in Carmel will be good to the people that are good to the animals and feed them and take care of them love will turn around for them
