Not everyone who uses "female" as a noun means it in an offensive way, but "male" and "female" as nouns rather than adjective is not species specific and are often used to literally refer to animals or to refer to humans in the same way one refers to animals (e.g. "the human male's mating call to the human female is often accompanied by guitar"). "Girls" can be used literally (addressing minors), infantilizingly, or familiarly.

They refer to us as "females" bc it compartmentalizes us from them AND dehumanizes us, liking they're hoping to appear "smart" in doing so as well (to give them more BS to hide their misogyny). For instance, a nature documentary refers to animals as "female [this]" or "male [that]."

“I started this sub because I had been noticing for years that people would use men and females in the same sentence, and often it was coming from a sexist perspective. "Female" was used to belittle women the poster didn't respect, but because it was a normal word and not a slur no one could say anything about it. This sub started out as just a way for me to screenshot when I found examples while browsing the internet, I never thought the sub would grow to over 73k members.”

What I found surprising when I did drywall with my dad was how many men had a hard time learning how to walk on stilts, as I took to them right away. The internalized misogyny in your comment is a lot to unpack. You can be both extremely intelligent and wear revealing clothing or even be a sex worker because that is the entire point of feeling good about yourself and doing things that make you happy. Having the freedom to seek out relationships and sex is a human right. Been playing video games since the 80s. No one ever gave me cräp for being female. I owned ALL the game systems as a kid, so you bet I was playing the good stuff like Mortal Kombat. No one cared. Now I’m 42 and still playing games. Been playing a lot of Helldivers 2 with some friends lately. Gave me a good laugh to see that the devs didn’t make sexy female Helldiver characters - the two body types you can choose from are “Brawny” and “Lean”. Ha! There were a few times back in my early 20s when I got called out on voicechat for being a girl (back when we had either Teamspeak or Ventrilo… no such thing as Discord yet) but that was about it.

I want to be honest with that topic, I don't think sexy characters in games are a bad thing, or a problem at all. No matter if they are male or female. I myself don't care about girls so a sexy woman character does nothing for me, but I certainly enjoy the good looking guy characters - so why should I complain about guys that like the attractive women characters? If I want to put a Vergil figurine in my bedroom because I think he looks great, my fiance can have a Bayonetta figurine because he thinks it looks great, so what? If the devs want to make pretty characters that's just as valid as making them realistic, I don't know why there's so much complaining. Recently that nothing burger topic seems to focus on Stellar Blade, and I can't see why the protagonist girl causes such a stirrup in the community.

I think the issue is rather the disparity of clothing options/design of characters, and over sexualisation of the female characters in comparison to the male ones. For me, it just feels exploitative of women. Thankfully, it seems to be moving away from that now, I thought Freya from God of War Ragnarok and Aloy from the Horizon series are a step in the right direction.

ok first of all, I’ve seen much more female rape cases, maybe even because of the incel kind of thinking shown in some posts on this list. HOWEVER, ALL rape is a serious serious problem. Because of socialization. It harms everyone to expect women to carry all the emotional labor because men aren't allowed to feel anything. Thankfully, it's getting better.
