New Pixar-Like Short Film About A Boy Coming Out Is Taking Internet By Storm Because, Well, Just Watch It
4.1Mviews
Get your tissues handy – you’re going to need them after watching In a Heartbeat. It’s a new animated short film that is absolutely breaking the Internet, and it’s so necessary in today’s climate of intolerance and hate.
In a Heartbeat was put together by Ringling College of Art and Design students Beth David and Esteban Bravo as their computer animation thesis, but it has now taken on much more of a life than just a school project. It deals with a young boy struggling to come to terms with his feelings for a handsome peer, a topic never previously explored by animated film, and features an adorable jumping heart that is just begging to be made into a new Pixar mascot. In just 4 minutes, it captures the experience of countless LGBTQ youth, and shows them that there’s nothing to be afraid of.
The Florida students managed to successfully crowdfund almost 5 times their original estimated costs to produce the film through Kickstarter, and their hard work is paying off. Since hitting YouTube, In a Heartbeat has racked up over 5 million views, and everyone watching it is begging for a sequel. Take in the touching short for yourself below, and find out what people are saying about it!

Oh! *sniff* my heart! Feels so warm and fuzzy and....happy.... and sad too...
The softest thing call love. Thanks for the story
Absolutely independent of the content, quality, intention, and ramifications of this film, it is shocking to see how the commenting goes even here on Bored Panda, where people normally are not so close-minded and rather well-mannered. The unsubstantiated hatred is hard to endure. Why not criticise, argue against, provide alternatives? Just putting out hatred is something to be ashamed of. I know there are a few trolls who just enjoy writing what provokes angry replies. But those who just insult and communicate their hatred, how do they look into the mirror each morning? Some actually seem to have created accounts just for this purpose. What do they seek? I mean, they can neither "convince" someone (for they post no arguments) nor give the impression that there is a majority against a given position (since the hatred is way too scattered). I do not get it, but I think it is very sad.
Hans I get you. Bored Pandas comment system is really easy to abuse and the site gets flooded by lots of hateful comments latley. Often there is a much deeper agenda behind each comment - an article about painted Barbie leads to a rant how Islam destroys western civilization, an article about a cute child how LGTBQs are horrible. Bored Panda is not the feel-good place anymore, I've already deleted my old account and I will delete this one too.
My impression is that we need to argue. I am not saying stop people having their opinion. I am saying do not accept that people do not reflect, are not critical, simply post hatred. Otherwise, we give this tiny minority of people in our society who believe in cospiracy, who claim that they are the ones that sustain it but actually undermine it, to be a majority. They aren't. Thus, if I read something unsubstantiated, I try to say something. If someone posts just "fagott" there surely is no way to argue, and it is futile to believe that you can "convince" such a person. However, you can give him or her the impression that he is not one of many.
Just try not to go into the comments section.
if you like to enjoy watching an animation about two young boys trying to make love while one puts the dick in the others boys anus than please keep watching...this animation is about it that's where it leads the immoral people want to make all other people like them ...even kids at primary school you fucking psychopaths

I havent seen one single comment that says I hate Gays or Homosexuals, where do you get hate speech from?
To quote the comment section: "faggots" "sickening gay bastards" "disgusting" "stop spreading homosexualiy" - but lots of more comments comparing homosexuality to illness or crying to boycott Pixar or Disney. JepJep. A lot of hate.
Several. Like the troll comment by Flora comparing gay love to sex with animals.
After the curse that was the emoji movie, we were blessed with in a heartbeat💗
cuRSE?! YOU MEAN MASTERPIECE. *coughs up sarcasm ball*
Masterpiece of crap :D
WE NEED TO MAKE IT A MOVIE we should've switched the Emoji Movie with this... In A Heartbeat is one of the cutest things ever
That's good.
This is so darn sweet. Onions and ❤❤❤ rolled into one.

Hihi yeah true! But im just saying that this s*** is not one of the best scenario an animation movie can do. I dont care it's about homosexuality. I just dont agree with people who say "oh its the sweetest thing i've seen" just because they think it's cool to be LGBT friendly

really?? :D
What a useful and well-substantiated reply. How long did it take you to come up with that?
What!? An animated short that recognizes that the LGBTQ portion of the population is made of people just like you and I? I did get teared up watching this, because I remember my heart aching when I had my first crush when I was younger and because feeling that way makes you SO vulnerable. And you recreated that so beautifully here. Bravo, Pixar.
(not Pixar)
The talented animators at the Ringling School in Sarasota.
Sorry, whoever the "Pixar-like" creators are.
I am 72 and love ❤️ ❤️ Love this. Wonderful. Spread the love.
This is... pure beauty. As a pansexual I fully feel how this boy feels most of the time, and I think it is gorgeous
And whoever down voted me for liking both genders, you don't have to be okay with me being pansexual, just please respect me a little more? I'm only twelve and I don't even understand why some people can't stand to hear me say that I am pansexual
<3 much love Lillian. You expressed yourself beautifully. I would be so proud if you were my child
Lillian, it's because many people are horrible gits and want everyone to be the same like them instead of trying to appreciate the amazing variety of people the world has to offer.

You are only 12 sweet girl and are forcing a label on yourself. Not everything has to be sexual, but sadly that is what our sex soaked culture has force fed you for your entire very short life. Liking both boys and girls used to be called friendship and it is very normal at your age to just be getting more attracted to the opposite sex now that the "cooties" are wearing off. Your girl friends will be your greatest companions if they are true friends. The world has told you that all close, heart engaged relationships must be sexualized. Not true. I very much love love love the women friends in my life. It doesn't mean I have to be sexually attracted to them too. Give yourself time before giving yourself a label.
That's so fuckin cute my heart is hugging my phone
Why say this is a story about "coming out"? This is just a simple story about falling in love, we need to stop with all the labelling
You're right, it's about falling in love, and it should be just that. But whenever someone falls in love with someone from the same sex, the moment he or she does something about it is basically a coming out for them. Because there's at least one person now who knows about your preferences, and you make yourself vulnerable to ridicule or even hatred. It's why the boy tried so hard to catch his heart - he was scared of it being broken by someone else, maybe even smashed to dust. In the process, he ripped it apart. I love this little film, because without big words and big gestures, it says a lot. But yes, you're absolutely right - it's "just" about falling in love. You could make the same film with a boy and a girl, and it would be the same thing. The same fear of ridicule haunts everyone who falls in love with someone he/she thought above one's own "station". It is the same thing - So... why isn't it the same thing? It damn well should be!
Love it :)
it was perfect ♥
People need to realize this IS NORMAL!!! It's ok to be LGBT!! Heck I'm Bisexual myself!! This is an absolute MASTERPIECE and I applaud you for this. 🏳️🌈

At Zori, While all of us are created uniquely different, abnormal is not the same as normal, but again we should not be afraid of variances, anomalies, and differences that make us human. If what you stated were true there would not need to be a need or desire to attempt to normalize the abnormal, not attr not to say they are the same. We don't attempt to say an apple is an orange, yet we embrace the truth they are both fruits. Furthermore, if an apple has an anomalie, we acknowledge and recognise the difference. Depending on the anomalie some might consider the fruit not for them, some will overlook, but the choice to pick, sell, buy, or eat the fruit is up to the individual.
except that homosexuality is actually normal and natural, since it's found in nature as well (in some environments in even more than 50% of the time). The only non normal thing is not to accept it and perceive it in any other way.
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
Normal as compared to what exactly? Normal is defined as "conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected." Attempting to "normalize" the abnormal is quite different than attempting to gain acceptance and understanding that abnormalities (anomalies, variations, differences) exist with in a "norm". The truth is it is "normal" for abnomalies to exist within the mean of a norm, i.e., the standard, or "the expected", and one should not be afraid of thise anamolies. The standard, or norm, in regards to sexuality within the human species is be heterosexual. Although heterosexuality is "normal" for the human species, everyone should accept that abnormalities do exist within human sexuality, as deviations do exist. As far as the Constitution goes, it embraces the idea of equal protection through man's law of differences that make us human, i.e., our physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional attribute regardless of "norms", or what it is to be "normal".
I wrote a chronicle describing my life with my friends and family in a more amusing way. It's motto is : "There's no such thing like a "normal person". If everyone were normal according to our personal standards, the world was going to be quite a boring place." Basically, sometimes in the society "abnormal" and "normal" have the same meaning. I'm not sure if you are going to get my point because it's simply a bit complicated and hard to explain.
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say nuthin' at all

yeah I only hear the word bully from whiny people who cant take having their shit pointed out to them
Yeah, I'm a Christian. And no, I don't disapprove. Go ahead, shitstorm from one end for being Christian (care), shitstorm from the other for not disapproving. But that's reality, folks. If you think this gay thing is not how God meant things to be, ask yourself if God meant for anything in this world to be as it is today. God did mean for one thing to be though: love. Ah yeah and he also mentioned the not judging thing. Kinda relevant.
Now Leni, define true love as God/Christ/Holy Spirit intends it be. Does true love contain the component of mere acceptance or the component of the forgiveness of transgression?
i hope they do a sequel, and maybe into other subjects like Trans persons.
No, because it will become preachy and less magical.
Agreed. Sometimes, saying less is saying more.
I'm not crying...
Love has no boundaries.. I am a straight white male.. I dont care what your gender at birth might have been, nor do I care what the stigma that society puts on.. Love has no boundaries.
I would watch a full movie to this I love it.
It's seems like an unfair distraction to even say Pixar like in the title. Some talented college students made it.
Nice. Unfortunately real life is nothing like this.
I'm pretty damn happy my heart doesn't physically pursue people, actually.
That would be fuckin terrifying let's be real here
Beautiful, and i know somebody probably won't read this comment, but it is beautiful to see tat even if you are different, ya' still can be loved. DA-HEART-5...2903c.jpeg
This isn't about sex. Kids at this age start to have crushes. This short shows 2 boys...so what. As a grown gay man, I still feel there are times when I should hold back the fact that I have a husband (though I don't) of 15 years. People can be so cruel and judgmental. I think about some of these ridiculous comments and if the boy in this short had read them they probably would push him back into the closet, because all he would see is a world of unacceptance. I hope that some of you don't end up with gay children, because it is a apparent that they won't be accepted. Sad, just sad.
Wish I could upvote this 10 000 times❤️❤️
But you can't!!!!🤢
HOLY HELL YES
this short film is really touching and well made <3
I love this, it made me cry. It is beautiful
I'm twelve, and the only reason I haven't come out yet is my school is full of people who are homophobic. The world needs more things like this.
Sooo beautiful 😭😢😭😢
This is not PIxar... lol I agree with the story and have no issues with the structure, just the fact you named it Pixar when it isn't... Not all CGI films are PIxar.. Seems desperate for clicks when you purposefully rename it that way....
It says "Pixar-like." As in the style of Pixar.
Love is love, an uncontrollable emotion who sees no race, gender, status and age. Love is an emotion that fights through the hardships. We should embrace it, it's not wrong loving someone.
This was soo moving. Regardless of sexual orientation, everyone can relate to this short film. The fact that it centers on 2 boys in such an intolerable climate like school is reflective of the way society in general still see these situations. I absolutely loved IN A HEARTBEAT.
Love it :)
I have a new ship. Where is my crew?! Come on! All aboard the ship! It's pre-built and ready to sail!!!
When that poor little heart broke I fell to pieces. :'(
💕
yep
It's sooo beautiful, I love it !!😭😭😭
This was absolutely beautiful. I love everything about it (#; v ;#) Thank you so much for sharing this!
I loved this video, it actually made me cry at the end. Love is love, and people need to express and accept that. Especially when its young kids being shown like in this video.
OHHH MYGHAADDD!!!!!I LOVE IT SOOO MUCH!!!!
Read "get your tissues handy" and was all like "naw, I can handle it." Guess who's sobbing at work.
It was a silent film right?
Oh my goodness what an amazing little film. So powerful. I shouted out loud 'don't break it' when his heart snapped in two. Fabulous even in the closing credits with the heartbeat echoing. Loved it.
This needs to be a movie
I've been waiting for this film a long time, I'm following on of the artist blogs and it' finally here! So amazing and sweet, love it!
I love this so much, you don't even know. One of the best things to bless the internet. Thank you.
Crying!!!!! I want this to be a full movie.
Simply amazing.
This is so cute and soft but its also really meaningful
Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! So cute!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAH this is so sweet I just got diabetes
Standing up in front of computer screen applauding loudly with happy tears streaming down my face!! BRAVO!!!!!!
Wonderful. *sniffles*
Beautiful!!! Touching and real!!! Worth watching!!! Love...ly!!

aww I loved this so much!!!
Wonderful ! !!!!💙💚💛💜💓💕💗💖💝💞💟👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Omg it deserves a movie
Heartbeat it's perfect and sweet...adorable
awesome!
I do not find it special in any way. That's just life.
I hope we all at some point in our existence in such lovely stories will stop seeing gay love and just see love. Cheers, Shiva, it is indeed just life =)

I hope you find a way not to be that cynical about life at some point in your existence.
laury, i've seen you comment on so many posts in this thread... and i understand you are generally against opinions other than yours. that's the problem, in my opinion. if you find the movie beautiful and feel the need to cry, ok. if you don't - it's also ok. this is a matter of personal preferences. it doesn't have to be cynicism. and what if it is? nothing. just accept that not everyone will love the movie.
not everyone is so bollywood romantic, you know? love can be beautiful, certain moments, too, but we are all different. according to me this little movie is just ok. one may feel disappointed after all the fuss in the description. cynical people also have their awesome moments... please stop judging for different thoughts on such a silly topic as a movie!
Where do you get that I'm judging cynical people? I've been cynical on a lot of things, and the first person it brings down is the person who says stuff like that. But when you share those comment with others, you're actively rubbing off on people. And my comment is first and foremost the expressed hope that they can let go of that cynicism to enjoy cute little things in life, AND let other people enjoy them, too.
You come to hilarious conclusions, Justina. I'm just saying that Shiva is uselessly broadcasting negativity, and I wish I'm actually wishing them better fortune than to stow in that. But sure, make me out to be on a crusade against people.

at least its not two bull dykes that would have made for an akward pixar movie
Not Pixar.... Pixar-like... from a design school. That's the only part of this comment i will address.
I wish my heartbeat like that again...but sometimes, what you have left is not half a heart but a mere fragment
Cultivate it. It can grow back :)
sorry, I am not getting this. what is so cute about this?
it's supporting LGBT romances which rarely happens. it displays it as a normal relationship and not some twisted dictation. and also they're perfect for each other
No. It's cute because it's well-done, it tugs on your heartstrings because most of us have felt the way the boy felt at some point in their lives. It's cute because it ends well, and because the little ridiculous heart is being ridiculous (as we all know it tends to be when it comes to falling in love) and because they drew the kids with big eyes, which makes us all swoon since we can't help falling for the Kindchenschema. It just so happens to be about a boy falling in love with another boy. I bet it would be just as cute as a black girl falling in love with a white boy, or vice-verse, or a Ko-rean falling i-n love with an Inuit. Or a Moslem falling for a Christian. That's the point, actually: It would work with ANY person, no matter their background. Gay, straight, religious, nerdy, outdoorsy , poor, rich, ... We ALL feel like this when our heart goes astray. I think that should be the point of this. Not (just) the fact that it's two (white, upper-class) boys in the short-film.

The cute part is that "Let's promote homosexuals cuz its trendy" while muslims are taking over our world. "We need more beta, so they obey their new masters". That is cute :D
Non-straight people are going to exist whether you like it or not, darling. Go on and hate all you want, the first person it poisons is you.
I lOVE It i can barely see through the tears!
I need to see this ASAP
Beautiful!!!!
Amazing and so touching! The heart 'knows' and humans should be living their lives and making decisions based on their heart and gut - love and knowing! People need to mind their own business and just let others be! Best movie I've seen all year!
I cried
IT’s Just beautiful
I was self-censorshiping myself but sadly was unable to not look at the comments and i can't stand it anymore. Antigay: "sick" "abnormal" "disease" "way of life" "publicity"... you are abnormal people, IQ abnormal. My grandmother is a 93 years old french lady who lived the world war II and she is more open minded than 2017 people? She invited my brother's boyfriend for christmas and gave him his own gift with "mr Firstname" handwritten on it.THIS IS NORMAL! Not kind, not sweet...just normal. Also i found it awkward when people find homo/trans/bi-sexuality, awesome, so cute or whatever, it is just normal. I hope that i will be still alive to see all the occidental world seeing this like a woman wearing a pair of jeans, little girls going to school and women voting: NORMAL! (sorry for my english btw)
This is the cutest thing ever! Luckily my heart isn't that demanding! But still really cute :)
I haven't even watched it yet, but I'll be sure to! I fully support the LGBT community and I'm pansexual myself ☺ I know it's gotta be good when Thomas Sanders says it is..
It don't matter to me if this are a gay couple, black, straight, or purple etc. Love is love and seeing it play out can ether warm your heart or break it. This video was absolutely adorable and I would love to see a full movie with more open minded, out of the box love stories.
This is actually a really wonderful thing. It's cute and beautiful. Yes it's G rated. And it should be. It says our relationships and loves are as normal as anyone else. I'm a huge animation fan. One of the staples of animation is the hero or heroine trying to find out if the object of their affection shares the same feelings. Why shouldn't gay youth have that as well? In some ways this short film is very Disneyesque and contains many of the same themes. And you know what? I absolutely love that!
i really enjoy these short films, they get you right in the "feels" kudos !!
THIS IS SO EMOTIONAL OH MY GOD I THINK I'M STARTING TO *sniff* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!
I'm a big fan of " The Bravest Knight that Ever lived" twist on classic tale.
That was beautiful!I loved it.
This is literally the purest thing I've seen this year so far! It's made my day, and i thank whoever created it.
That. Is. Awesome.
The angst of first love for ANY person is so emotional, and when you add the very real fear of misunderstanding gender clues, it must be so painful! This video reached my old, hetero heart in a beautiful way. We need to remove the stigma and labels and just let people love who they may. I hope this is the first of many such animated marvels! <3 <3
I told myself that I wasn't going to cry, I failed..... it was too beautiful not to
OMG, I love this. Those who don't understand gay people don't get that this sometimes happens - even at a young age! For a gay person it is just as natural to have a crush on a person of the same sex as it is for heteros to be attracted to the opposite sex. Jesus Christ, can't people just be themselves without repercussion?
Fabulous toon
i wish it was that easy
er
Splendid!!! Thanks Pixar
Not Pixar
I’m so tired of the intolerance and hate narrative.
Most people are, it'd be SUPER COOL if it wasn't something that people have to face every single day of their lives.
Ok I really loved it BUT the characters looked too young..just saying..They didn't look HS more like grade school.. Just my take on it but it was lovely..
...so? You think that children don't feel attraction toward other children? Or are you sexualizing it because the subject is same-gender attraction, which tends to be defaulted as sexual?
Well I guess my thoughts are, just like the comment in the beginning if this isnt the cutest thing you've have seen or something like that your wrong, is just so assuming. I kind have had the thoughts since a young person just live and be happy, but I find as I get older even that doesn't satisfy this community. Those who dont feel this way will NEVER totally understand it. We have OTHER feelings, so when someone says we believe we should live and let live with equal rights that should be good enough, but no, I get a thanks for allowing me to live. What do you all want what from the straight community. Its confusing when we see people swear they love the same sex then later marry the opposite sex. So there should be a little understanding both ways. If we say we say live equally that should be enough. Enough is enough ...you arent the only group picked on...
No one is under any obligation to make sense to you to deserve equal rights, just like clearly your comment probably doesn't make sense to a lot of people. As for "being the only group that is picked on", I don't think you realize that "picked on" for the LGBT+ community means "you might get fired, harassed, beaten up and/or killed for who you are". THAT is a LITTLE difficult to get over.
There's also a really cute movie about a girl having a crush on another girl, it's also on youtube and is called Rock and Riot
Love it!
We need more LGBT+ films. They're so cute!!!!
FAB!!!!!!
Such a beautiful illustration of love! Sorry to see so much lack of empathy, love and compassion in the comments.
Beautiful :)
A very beautiful short story!!
This is just so freaking adorable!
Except in real life the boy is straight and our ginger is in for a long time of heartache... But I liked the animation all the same :)
Not all the time, it worked out with my friends, but that is common, which is sad.
That was beautiful, the imagery, the message. It doesn't matter what gender. You can appreciate love.
My God. That was way too cute <3
IM FRESKING DYING RIGHT NOW HELP GIVE ME MORE TO SURVIVEE BLEHH
The content is great but I wish we could move past this Pixar look of huge eyes, tiny noses and pouty lips. It embraces an impossible standard of beauty and you'd think such socially conscious creators would care about that.
I agree, but that was just the style of drawing. In this, we learn to not look to the body, but emotions.
But big eyes and tiny noses make people swoon. It's a biological fact, and it makes us all more empathetic towards the characters. I agree - it should be possible to be a bit LESS huge and button-nose-y, but ... it works, doesn't it?
AHHHHHHH SO CUTE
Awwww
Wow
I think this short film is remarkable and inspiring. For the "Christians" out there, take a look at this and think about your short-sighted and unGodly sentiments. https://youtu.be/3CPjWd4MUXs
My bestfriend and I were watching it together when it came out and I was in tears because its so sweet. She was also in tears and wouldn't stop spamming me about it and the same goes for me. It has to be the best short film I've seen. It just makes your heart squeeze and your chest feel tight just by watching it.
PIXAR?
If you're asking whether it's a PIXAR production, it's not: it's in the description. If you're suggesting that PIXAR should pick it up, I would cautiously agree.
This is such a good short, I'd like to see it be a full movie
If the pope won't judge them, then we shouldn't neither nor no how.
Meh
What an amazing animation but the ending is confusing. Are they becoming friends or did the kid luck out and crushed on another gay kid? You know, since not everyone is born Bi. Either way this was very well done. Great story and beautiful clever animation.
so, i am wrong if i say that only good thing about this short movie is the music? don't judge me because i do not think and feel like you.

Its not pixar, dont give credit to them. They would never make something so sweet and caring like this that would cause controversy. Look at all the hateful, ignorant people in these comments. You think Pixar would want to hurt their little feelings? Please. They get rich off of the homophobic nut jobs who think what other people do affects their own lives.
First of all: The title says "Pixar-Like", not "Pixar". Read, before you rant. Nontheless, there's no need to bash Pixar for not doing something like this, since the company isn't focused on JUST love stories. It's about gigantic adventures and personality changes of the characters in it. Love stories are part of their films, but it's usualy not the only aim. However, what makes you think they maybe will never add a gay couple? I mean, there are plenty of Pixar films where characters GET KILLED and it's the 21st century, so perhaps it's more plausible than you might think.

That was plain stupid, is this kind of dull uninspired animation enough these days to get the world's love simply due to it being about gays? That's not how art should work, this is more like politics disguised as art.
Art has always been about politics. Read a history book.

Stop force pushing your agenda through our throats. People are gay. We get it. Holy crap this site is just a liberal propaganda.
As opposed to forcing heterosexual agenda in 99% of the rest of the media? We get it. You're straight. Get over it.

Just to be clear, the source of intolerance nowadays is the Left, labeling all they don't agree with as racist, bigoted, sexist, etc.
That's hilarious. If you say and do bigoted things, you're gonna get called out on it. That's the only things that's changed: you used to be the majority, and people are not tolerating your hate anymore.
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
that's stupid. it is a movie for only 1% of the population. they are different and we have to respect, but they have to respect me and the other 99%. We don't want to see that kind ov movies around. let it be circulated only between them.
That's actually more like 4% of adults being openly non-straight in the US, emphasis on "openly". Yet you STILL get 99% of the media about you, so how about you just keep to that and let us enjoy things we relate to, hmm? You get uncomfortable when it's not about you?

I didnt find this cute at all, I didnt cry like most people say they have. I believe that marriage should only be between a man and a woman and same sex marriage is not right. However, just as I believe that I know that there are others that believe otherwise and just as I want my beliefs to be respected, I should respect other peoples beliefs. I think that the most important thing to consider here is TOLERANCE. I may not believe the same things you do, but I respect your beliefs and I respect you for who you are - a human being, just as I am.
Not all beliefs are respectable. If you believe some people shouldn't have the same rights as you, then you don't hold a belief worthy of respect. Most likely if you are against same sex marriage then you are probably voting as such too, in which case you aren't even being tolerant. Some beliefs are harmful. Imagine if slave owners just said it was their belief. Belief is not a shield. If you don't agree with same sex marriage then just don't have one. It's not your business what other people do.
"Even if homosexual marriage were not legal, they would still have the same rights as a straight person" ...do you even read what you write? That's a DIRECT contradiction. Marriage has not been the "direct foundation of society for thousands of years", it's actually a pretty recent concept, even in Western societies. There was also marriage-like bonds long before Christianity, so that's not a Christian invention either. As for "by God Himself", I'm sorry, but everything you know of God comes from the mouth of men. Every single thing has been relayed to you by people who had a LOT to gain from being seen as authority. Jesus would be so fucking disappointed in the state of Christianity these days.
exactly!
Silvia, "slaves were being harmed at the very least and not treated as equalls" - people from the LGBT+ community still get fired, harassed, beaten up and killed, so they ARE being harmed, and they are NOT treated as equals.
Joel, equality is not about everyone having exactly the same thing available. A flight of stairs does not give a wheelchair user equality of access. The equivalent for a wheelchair user would be ramp or lift/elevator. So the equivalent to marriage as you see it is married to someone of the gender you find attractive. As for marriage being God given etc. Plenty of atheists marriage with zero regards to your god. You go ahead and marry someone of the gender you find attractive, no one is forcing you into same sex marriage.
Part 2, That is why this piece is so important as it supports a psyhcological need in attempts to normalize what is not normal, but different. The agenda has never just been about securing "rights" associated with marriage, but to attempt to propagandize abnormality as normal. Therefore the right to defend the true definition of marriage doesn't necessarily equate to intolerance or equality for everyone. What you say about beliefs holds true to actions, i.e., one doesn't have to respect another's. Whereas we as humans differ in the ways I mentioned in the previous comment, we all have the right to vote and express our views
At Meowtown. Other solutions were viable than to distort the true definition of marriage in order to secure the rights given to the married under man's laws for the Constitution embraces the idea of equally protecting all people within their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual differences which make us human. A "no" vote, therefore doesn't always mean what you assess above in your comments. But what what was also important for the lgbtq community is the psycological need to feel normal and thus the importance of attempting to normalize what is different.
What I am trying to say here is that we cannot be intolerant of what other people believe. Yes I am against same sex marriage because of my beliefs. So what? Am I not entitled to that? Yes I am. However, I cannot be disrespectful of what others may accept, in this case homosexuality. You talk about slavery and you can't compare that... slaves were being harmed at the very least and not treated as equalls. Which in this case, eithe straight or gay or lesbian or trans or bi or anything WE ARE ALL EQUAL! And thats what my point is. That we should have tolerance for one another in this society. I do believe we all should have the same rights as human beings.

Since when does a homosexual not have the sames rights as a straight person? Even if homosexual marriage were not legal, they would still have the same rights as a straight person. They would be able to marry anyone they want, as long as they were the opposite sex. This has been the basic foundation of society for thousands of years. Why exactly is it intolerant to promote the same standard for society that we've enjoyed throughout the history of our modern civilisation? Not only that, but the sanctity of marriage was ordained by God Himself, not society, not government, and not the democratic majority. Naturally, as a Christian man, I would want to protect this God-ordained tradition. A tradition that has absolutely no room for sinful lifestyles that God hates. What right do you have to change something that was given to us by our creator?
Thank you. I myself support the LGBTQ+ community wholeheartedly, but I try to be as respectful to other's views as possible, as long as they are calmly and level-headedly stating them, and I'm happy to see someone else doing the same and not ignorantly hating on others.
Silvia, that's very nice thoughts. But you don't believe that they should have the very same right as everyone else. It's not just about deliberately hurting others, because you can cause a LOT of damage even when you don't intend to, and ESPECIALLY when you stand on the sidelines and do nothing to help. LGBTQ+ issues are still a matter of life and death. CHILDREN still kill themselves because they can't even see a future in which they might be accepted. If your beliefs are positioned in a way that fuels that, they're a bit counter productive to "living all happy together".
Ugh, sorry, BP wouldn't let me reply to Silvia
Thank you!!! I felt like people took my comment as if I was being hateful... our society today shouldnt have to be defined by fights pro or against sexual orientation rights (and many other topics for that matter but I will stick to the subject here). We should live with one another as human beings. PERIOD! Not as gay or straight or trans... nooo... we are all human beings and what we do with our lives as long as we are not deliberatly hurting or harming others shouldnt have to be up for debate.
As a gay man, thank you. While we obviously dont share the same beliefs, i respect your opinion and thank you for not holding it over others.
@ Silvia, At judgement will God be tolerant of unconfessed sin? Is true love therefore tolerant of transgression, or does true love always contain the component of forgivrness? How is that you say love is love, i.e., how fo you say that is the message. There are rhetorical questions.
Meowton Mewsk says im worried about protecting myself than equality and even said Im a bigot which is totally completly wrong - being tolerant means that while I dont agree with your decisions I respect them since you have the right as I do. I think this type of short films shouldnt have to happen if we lived in a tolerant society. This film now exists to show others that love is love no matter what form it takes or who you fall in love with. And that is because todays society deems wrong that some have a different sexual orientation than what they consider "normal". If you are gay -good, if you are trans - good, if you are straight - good, if whatever... we are all human beings and that is what matters... nothing else!
She does hold it over others. She just says she doesn't. She's more worried about protecting herself than equality. She may not be directly attacking anyone but she has the same beliefs as a bigot.
You know what, I don't agree with you but the fact you aren't being pretentious or cruel about your opinion makes me want to give you a cake
i will respect your beliefs, if they are legal and moral, once they violate either of those, its out the window. too many so called "christians" use this same concept to hate on the whole LGBTQ community. yes you dont have to marry someone who is the same sex, you cant deny others that right, not anymore at least. sorry but i dont get a lot of "tolerance" from the religious right, so i dont give much back unless they show it FIRST, as soon as someone pulls some stupid crap, their respect is in the garbage, where their so called beliefs belong. heck most people dont even KNOW what is IN the bible, just what they are TOLD it means.
I totally agree with you... many so called christians hate people for their sex orientation and that is just wrong. How can they call themselves christians and promote hatred? I personally believe in marriage between a man and a woman... so what? Am I wrong to believe in that? No im not... just as you think you are not wrong for believing in same sex marriage. And that is ok. Sadly I saw a lot of hateful comments and wow... nobody being tolerant around here, which is just sad.
This is not 'tolerance', it's promotion and proselytism.
Yea and I'm on a diet so I want everyone in the world to stop eating sweets! Because all their decisions influence my life..
Who said anything about marriage? I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be school-aged
Translation: "I'm a bigot".
Aaarrrgh! For some reason BP posted this under every single comment! Oh, the Humanity! It was AIMED at ONE bigot! Needless to say, NOT YOU.
So what you are saying, Silvia, is that you believe everyone is equal, but that some people should be denied the rights that you enjoy?
👍🏻 yep!
You still felt the need to come here and make your beliefs - which oppose the message of love sent by this work - publicly known when not personally prompted on the matter. That's not tolerance. It's a bit as if an atheist came into your place of worship (not that BP is a place of worship, but work with me here), and loudly declared "Well I think what you're doing is wrong, but I guess you have a right to believe it, so I will allow you to have it."
She's entirely welcome to have her opinion, but what she did still amounts to going to people in public to tell them they're wrong, but that she just won't openly fight them on it. It's not necessary and it's not tolerance. Your #1 goal is not to let people live, it's to tell them that you disagree and that you magnanimously give them the right to be wrong.
Tolerance should be used across the board, including towards those who have a different opinion to yours.
At Larry, so are you saying athiest are tolerant of Christians? Doesn't that depend on the Athiest?
I watched the short film knowing it was about homosexuality because I read the comments saying how cute it was and how it brought tears to people. I commented that I did not felt moved by it the same way it did for others and felt I could express my feelings - I may not agree but I am tolerant (meaning I accept what others belive in, what others think its right, and I dont fight against it). Maybe I didnt chose my words correctly... but this short film got me thinking about how our society is being torn apart because of people who dont belive in this (like me) fight against it and show only hate towards others for their opinions/beliefs/sex orientation/etc (not like me).
What you wrote is super-important. We might disagree, yet we can live side-by-side in peace. I think that would include allowing other people have the same rights as you - but I won't hate on your for your disapproval. I just think that should not make the laws.
Just because I think its not right, doesnt mean we cant have the same rights. Maybe I wont go pro same sex marriage but I wont rally against it either because that to me seems hateful. Live and let live... cant we just live in peace? Again... tolerance!

There is something bothering me about this. I've never understood gay people because I'm not gay and I never will understand the fact that the same sex people form couples. I'm don't hate them, I don't disrespect them or anything. I just think that it isn't right the nature way. Women give birth to children not men, plus the fact that women can't get pregnant without men's sperm. It's the way we evolved. Long story short, I understand that two people can fall in love with their personalities but the sex is wrong.
Not all women can bear children, nor men produce viable sperm. Homosexuality has been observed time and time again in nature. Marriage? Not so much. You do get lifelong partnerships, but animals don't have a legal system that treats some differently because they're minorities. You don't have to part of a demographic to understand it: you just have to listen and understand that your experience is neither the only one valid, nor does it set the course for truth OR morality. That's an exercise in humanity, I hope you get there someday.
@ Maury While the anomalies you present occur in nature, they do not alter the truths shared by "Raging", nor to they provide justification or promotion of the self-truth of the anamolie. While humanity may include the same man made rights for unions other than that of a union between male and female, ms n and woman, husband and wife, there is no need to distort the true definition of marriage just as their is no need to attempt to include a deviation as being the mean. The Constitution, i.e., msn's laws protects the physicsl, mental, emotional, snd spirtual differences that make us human regardless of morality. But your sadly mistaken to think humanity includes the embracing of a self-truth, i.e., a deceit, a lie. There is only one Truth. And while some transgress from time to time, others flatly deny, believing in their own truth. Those who humbly seek forgiveness for their transgression know snd scknowledge The Truth.
Whether you realize it or not, you are disrespectful towards them. Why are you bringing up having babies? Not everyone wants kids, even straight people. I'm a straight woman with a healthy reproductive system and I will never have kids because I don't want them. Is my sex wrong? Guaranteed you will say no. But what's the difference? I'm not making a baby. Ever. When you grow up you'll realize that sex is not just about baby making. Also gayness occurs in nature in every type of animal so it's clearly right in nature. Evolution has nothing to do with homosexuality. There's nothing wrong with gay sex, that's a stupid thing to say to justify your homophobia.
Not everything needs to follow exact biological rules, and just because you can't have kids doesn't mean it's wrong. Open your mind a little
Okay RagingSandmonster, so what you're saying is that if a man and woman have a relationship and one of them suffers from infertility they are also "unnatural' and wrong? Because that's what you're saying, right? Love and preference is only allowed if they can produce a child? Or did I, like Laury M. Meowton Mewsk and Bob 2.0, also poke a hole in your theory?

Sexualizing children is a form of cultural child abuse. The notion that we are such a progressive and forward looking society is a joke. This is nothing new. Corrupt cultures have done this before and eventually fell as a people. It just demonstrates our minds have darkened and and how corrupted we are as a culture. People forget the past and make the same mistakes and pay for it dearly. With this trend, people will not turn to wisdom of the ages but will turn to the depravity in this new evil generation.
Stop being so unnecessarily "philosophical" about this. The children are not being sexualized in this. Get a grip of yourself, for goodness sakes!
After all kids do tend to fall in love all the time. This just happens

So many people think this is a sweet little innocent film but this is sin. God didn't create a man to have romantic feelings for another man. Or women for another woman. This is just another avenue to try and make it acceptable but it's not.
"God didn't create a man....." Correct, god didn't create a man, or a woman either!
I'm against religion and I believe you people shouldn't be allowed to reproduce or get married... How do you like it?
God supposedly punished innocent future generations of women for Eva's sins. And he did many other things I would never understand. Some writer once wrote: "If God is capable of anything, he's capable of a mistake as well." Take your moment to reconsider this before labelling different people as ones with a sin.
It was also "written" that you not mix fabrics, eat shellfish, get tattoos, eat fruit from a tree that is less than 4 years old, mistreat foreigners, sell land permanently, and lots of other things that the cherry-pickers overlook. But stay focused on the lives of people who want to love and be loved in return.

This generation has lost it's mind when it comes to homosexuality. This is not adorable, nor is it brave, nor is this something that people should be celebrating. I'm sure most of your grandparents would be ashamed to learn that the majority of you promote this kind of unnatural, and sinful lifestyle. It's not because the older generation is 'old fashioned', it's because the younger generation has lost their minds! It doesn't matter how hard you try to justify this behaviour, homosexuality is a morally depraved lifestyle choice, and you will have to answer to God someday for promoting this abomination.
I am well too close to 50 and my mother loves it! We have no gay people (that I am aware of) in our close family yet she manages to value people for who they are.
You could be right in that one day I will have to answer to God for the choices and actions I have made in my life, I personally doubt it but possibly, however, if that is true so will everyone else you included and if you have decided to attack people who have done you no harm and actively add to the pain in the world because you have been told it was wrong you too will be judged on that. You mention that we will have to answer to God and if that's true why not let him deal with it why do you feel the need to attack their lifestyle and threaten us with judgement are you really so unsure that we will get what is coming to us. Lastly, you say that homosexuality is morally depraved because of your religious beliefs but can you explain who it hurts I don't believe you can and whose morals exactly if you travel the world or look into our history you will horrific acts that were or are deemed moral.

This is what Jesus himself said….. Matthew 18:5-7 `These little children believe in me. If anyone makes one of them do wrong, he will be punished. He will have worse trouble than if a big stone were tied to his neck and he were thrown into the deep sea. There are human ethical standards and than there are the standards given to us by God through the Christian Bible. Mankind chose to be their own god and not follow God’s standards, so we were all separated from him under a curse. Man has done things on his own and only produced pain and suffering. And even to this very day man is still his own god and the results are still confusion and suffering. Not all love is good; Many Muslims kill because they love their god Allah; Pedafiles want to love children so they try to take their innocence away to satisfy their lust. Some women love married men and commit adultery. These are all examples of ‘love’ made up of feelings without truth (God’s standards).

1 Corinthians 13: 6 6 Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. Evil is all that stands against God's standards. "Proverbs 14:12 warns," There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the ways of death. " It is infinitely better to trust in the Scriptures and obey the Gospel than to rely foolishly on your instincts and feelings and go to hell."

The LGBT is already condemed by God in the Bible and they want to corrupt and rob the innocece of children by indoctrinating them with sexual ideas that they still cannot understand in their young age. This evil and wickedness comes straight from the demons of hell and anyone who supports this or is in agreement has aligned himself/herself with the devil. 1 Corinthians 6: 9-11 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
Isn't there a passage about stoning people for eating seafood? GOD HATES CRABS.
John shut up. God loves everybody.

I think it is really sad when the use of children or child like figures is being used to try to get the point of it being ok to be with whom you want.. but like anything these days you gotta attack the weak to make the changes your looking for vs. Just being adult enough to stand up for yourselves and your own desires and beliefs no matter what they may be

Sure hope you repent and read the bible and just listen to how LORD JESUS prophecied all these crazy things.
Not everyone believes in your religion. And they shouldn't.
Who else is confused by long passages about God? Especially when they are hateful?
Funny, pretty sure LORD JESUS would have been pretty fucking disappointed in how much hate you're spewing. "Love One Another", right? Pretty sure it didn't come with conditions.

Let me say why I didn't like it. BUT this short is very well done. So, firstly I would like to say that the animation is great, selected music is magical. And the most important - the message, it is so simple, that even a four year old would understand. Attraction, fear, idealization, denial of the crowd, recognition by beloved one... I believe that these are part by most of the people lifes (including LGBTQ community). So, what is my problem? Acctualluy it a story. We start watching this masterpiece in the middle of it. We don't know our main heroe's age and why he is attracted to another boy. "Why it is a problem? It should be all about message of love" - you would reply to me. No, for me it doesn't work like that. Let's watch a clip from "Forest Gump". Part there he is in war. "Forest Gump" is a movie with part of war in it, but the movie it is not only about war. There I'm getting with it? I have watched "In a Heartbeat" two times. I can't tell main heroe's age. For all I know h

This is so wrong saying that it is alright to be gay and people know this is wrong and it is brain washing children to believe it is alright to sin against God.
Not everyone believes in sin or your god. You can't hold them to that standard. If you believe in a god that's against gay marriage, then don't be gay yourself. You can't expect everyone to practice your religion.
At Meow, While it is true that not everyone believes in God, everyone has the choice to acknowledge, believe, and share the Truth. Those who choose to deny the Truth, i.e., Jesus Christ, attempt to promote self-truth. In order to do so they lie to themselves first, then promote the lie to others. The "standard" therefore is Christ, i.e., The Truth. All transgress from the Truth from time to time, while some flatly deny Him. Those who transgress can be forgiven by humble repentence, receiving the grace of God by receiving the true love of Christ through the redemption of sin (transgression). God's standards do not change but man's standards do when he attempts to promote his self-truth. Without standards there is lawlessness.
I am a thoroughly Christian child and I support LGBTQ+ completely, and that's my own opinion, not society's.

(part 2) is just a young boy. Now let's make a thought experiment and pretend that he likes a girl. It would be still nice, but a bit dull... Unless at the end of we would write something like "Congrats, you have proved to be a heterosexual". That would be just wrong. And this is not exactly what I meant. (THIS IS THE MOST IMPORANT PART OF MY MESSAGE) But let's say our main hero whould like a girl because the way she looks. Her hair, her lips dress and talking mannner. Maybe our hero would even try to look like her. Get same dress, put some make up, dye hair. How would you call him now? If your answer is "A YOUNG KID", you are right. Because kids, teenagers and other young minds don't put themselves into roles like "heterosexual", "homosexual" and etc. They just try things out! That is why I don't like this movie... Because heart clearly indicates he is in love without any story telling. And all we know he is attracted to another kid just because of the way he looks.
I see the story of a shy kid who's got a crush on another boy and feels the need to hide it, while struggling with the urge to let him know how he feels. And when he does, he sees other people's reactions, and the other boy's hesitation because of it, and it breaks his heart to feel judged by his peers and the person he admires. And then the boy goes after him, regardless of what other people's reactions were, and helps mend the broken heart with acceptance both of his affection and of who he is. The fact that the person he likes is another boy is important because of current social pressure to conform to heteronormativity, which is the kind of judging look they get from their peers. Kids at that age are not immune to pressure from society, far from it: they're even more vulnerable. THAT is the time to help them find and love themselves. A story doesn't have to spell out every element to be a story, or to tell a message: you understand it with the context of the world. You missed it.
How can you seriously come to the conclusion that the above short goes against "letting kids express themselves", unless you think that this specific expression is not one that could normally come to them? You know what children will see in that short? A cute, shy kid - probably like themselves - who's got a crush on someone, who gets borderline bullied for it and in the end, gets accepted by the person who mattered. Kids who do feel that way for other kids of their own gender will feel validated. Others will see that it's a thing and are more likely not to bully because of that. Do research on the effects of positive representation, and you will understand what I mean by "THAT [childhood] is the time to help them find and love themselves".
"Positive representation" doesn't mean "everything is peachy". Re: do some research about representation. People who are attracted to others of a similar gender usually feel a lot of pressure from their peers, as represented, and positive representation includes representing the struggles they encounter. The end message, which IS positive, is that there the people who matter will accept you for who you are. No, the world is not always that easy to deal with, but telling kids first and foremost that the world will be harsh on them is no way to raise them strong. It's a way to raise them afraid.
(Hmm. I'm replying to second post using first one). I see your point on positive representation. Well, if it is positive (not message about love, the movie in general) why it shows other kids not accepting two boys? Why it has to be "us" and "them"?
What do you mean by saying "THAT is the time to help them find and love themselves" ? All I wanted to say is that we should not push social structures to our kids minds. Grown ups (parents, teachers and etc) should take a responsibility to create an environment for kids to express themselves the way they feel ("I like her hair", "I love him", "I like the way she talks" and etc.) without making big assumptions about sexuality. I see why some are so sensitive about message presented in the movie. Because as grown up you remember feeling the same as the main character (misunderstood, not accepted on time, loving person of the same gender and etc). But it took time to be self-aware, person with strong character and own values. Don't take it from young people.

Sexualizing children for a political agenda. I'm sure NAMBLA members will use tissues for something other than crying.
Funny how we don't get that kind of comment on animations featuring children of different genders attracted to one another. The only reason you perceive any of that as sexualization - because it really isn't - is because you're associating it with homosexuality, which in your mind is necessarily about sex. It's not. If YOU think those children look anything sexual, I'm worried about how YOU perceive children at large.
They didn't have sex or even kiss. They sat next to each other. Seemed more like friendship to me. You're the one thinking so deep about children having sex.
Cant help but agree with Laury M. here.
