A Formal Complaint Letter Calls Out This Restaurant For Their “Ridiculous” Taco Prices Because They Pay 15 Bucks For 16-Year-Olds
Working in a fast food restaurant is never easy; the inevitable burnout, constant microaggressions that your management projects onto you and, last but certainly not least – the overly audacious customers.
There are nearly 8 billion people on this planet, and no matter how hard you’d try – you’ll still encounter some loathsome individuals on your path. Though most of us avoid making someone’s day miserable, there’s a good deal of folks who won’t skip a chance to complain, moan or whine. Whether they enjoy stressing others out or, perhaps, they don’t have a sense of compassion, we might never know – however, to protect your mental well-being, you must take their personality with a pinch of salt. Or make a Reddit post about it.

Dealing with obnoxious and entitled customers is an emotionally draining process

“Interesting letter received today” – an online user took it to a “Karen“-dedicated subreddit to reveal what kind of letter their restaurant has received. A formally written complaint by an infuriated customer has dumbfounded the author enough to upload it online, where the post has managed to receive over 55K upvotes and 5.2K worth of comments discussing the audacity that some folks have.
Restaurant received a formal complaint stating that their long-time customer is no longer a customer due to taco prices that have skyrocketed over the last 40 years

The letter began with a very specific introduction, revealing that the customer was a regular since 1980s when they first obtained their driver’s license; moreover, they’ve also done a little math, and shared that if they were to add up the money spent on all those hard-shell tacos, the total would be in the thousands of dollars. Last time they visited the restaurant to purchase 3 tacos, they were taken aback as the bill came out to a whopping $5. The news deeply saddened the former client and they departed, making no purchases.

Judging by the “I asked the female to repeat”, we can confidently assume that the complaint was written by a man. But, that’s not too important. The rant continues and the customer says that they recall paying 69 cents for “this poor Mexican street food”, and that they’ve come to the conclusion that they’re done being the store’s customer.
They mention that they did not vote for the Florida Amendment 2, meaning that they don’t agree with paying a minimum wage of 15 bucks to teens or 30-year-old adults to toss some lettuce, cheese and ground beef in a cheap corn shell. The very informative message then ended with a “sorry for your loss but my gain”.

Though the letter is pretty convincing, a couple of members have speculated that it is, in fact, fake. The restaurant receipt that was attached to the complaint was previously seen on the “Mildly Interesting” subreddit – however, as you can tell by the author’s comment below, they assure the Redditors that nothing is staged, and that, perhaps, the customer has googled an old image purely to confirm their point. What do you think about this situation? And how would you personally deal with folks like that?

I just spent $47 for some Chinese food. I'm gonna pay it if I want the food, but I'll grumble to myself about them charging $3.79 for a pint of egg drop soup when it was $1.49 back in the day. Stuff costs more now, it's that simple. That's basic economics.
You're paying for the service, and the continued operation of the building it comes from, not just the food. If you want it cheaper, make it yourself.

$16-$20 for 3 street tacos where I live. They’re delicious, but it’s a treat due to the high cost. Anyway, I can’t imagine thinking prices wouldn’t increase over 23 years, especially with the current state of things (inflation, recession, pandemic). This poor guy is so out of touch he’s literally living in 1999 🥴
Have you ever talked with people over 50? They're shocked that $0.25 doesn't get you into a movie, a giant tub of popcorn, 30 liters of soda, a hot dog, and a new car.
Load More Replies...If I was the manager recieving that letter, it would make me very happy. That's one rude and entitled customer less to worry about.
I don't know about the letter, but here's the source for the receipt: https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/t6gex3/i_found_a_perfectly_preserved_taco_bell_receipt/
Which is from a Taco Bell in PA (the store # is on there and you can look up locations). It's just a generic receipt so shouldn't be attached to the post other than for price reference.
Load More Replies...I worked at Taco Bell from 1986 to 1997 and tacos were more than .69 in 1997. People are just ridiculous expecting something to stay the same price for decades.
Not if properly preserved for the sake of complaining about a $5 taco lunch.
Load More Replies...Wonder what the customers job is? Either he must be so rich he can't comprehend how it's to live on minimal wage - but than paying $5 for three tacos should be no deal. Or he owns himself about minimum wage to rant about $5 tacos and should have some sympathy for others earning hardly enough for a decent living? But for sure: He knows nothing bout ecomonics!
Seeing as how he referred to the cashier as "female" like his letter was a GD police report, I'm guessing he is not expressing sympathy for those with low incomes.

Not sure it's still around, but there was a women's magazine in the US that did a column, Can This Marriage Be Saved? Back in the 1980s, they did a column about a couple who'd been married since the '60s, so about 20 years at that point. She kept begging him for a bigger "allowance" (eyeroll), he kept insisting she must be "wasting" what money he gave her on hair and makeup, not groceries. The counselor told him to to the grocery shopping the following week. Hubby grudgingly admitted that--guess what?--grocery prices really *had* gone up since they'd been married! Counselor also told him to stop the "allowance" nonsense, Wife worked outside the home too, half the money was hers anyway, she didn't need his permission to grocery shop. That's what this idiot, in this Bored Panda post, reminds me of.
Is the basic understanding of inflation not being taught anywhere?
Listen here mate, if you make such a fuss over a few quid, you are no one's loss. Perhaps if you aren't spending so much time whinging about the g'dole days, you would have more sense than a bundle of sticks.
You know what? There are some 16 yr olds that are out there supporting their families, so yeah, I'm all for paying "kids" $15/hr. If you don't want to make your dinner, you get to choose where you want to buy it from. Is it Taco Hells fault that he decided NOT to read the damn menu and see the prices?? What a douche
Should take their formal letter and respond with one that simply says go f**k yourself
Frankly if you can't afford to pay your employees an actual livable wage AND NOT overcharge for BASIC GOODS then you shouldn't exist in this first place.
He needs to boycott that taco hut. If he's been eating there four decades, he's about due for his first heart bypass. Tacos are NOT on that menu.
